The deserts of Arid-Taklamakan often considered by most as the "Kingdom of sand and danger", considering the hostile creatures living in the environment and extreme heat keeps people near the coastal city of Arid-Kasshrin to battle the extreme heat. From their origins to 1500, the attitudes of both Christian and Muslims toward trade shifted as conditions in the Christian and Islamic worlds changed. In the beginning, Christian attitudes were more negative, while Muslims tended to encourage and respect trade and merchants. Over time, Muslims became more like early Christians in that they were suspicious of traders whereas the Christians became more like the early Muslims, equating merchants (at least honest ones) with doing God’s work, reflecting the changed importance of trade in the high Middle Ages in Europe.

The tendency of communities to specialize in some phase of economic activity made it necessary that they maintain commercial contact with other communities and countries in order to secure the things that they did not produce (Hope 16). Some villages, for example, specialized in fishing, others concentrated on metallurgy, while others made weapons, utensils, and so on. Traders traveled from place to place to barter and to purchase. Upon returning they were laden with goods that they sold within their own community (Hope 17).

8. The Wasteland – Often a desert, the wasteland represents an emotionally/physically barren place or time in a character’s journey. A character is usually cleansed of fear or doubt and reconnects to his/her sense of faith or inner strength. Characters usually emerge from the wasteland stronger and more focused. Occasionally the wasteland wins and a character emerges from the wasteland insane.

The Mongols were a very controversial group of people who caused carnage and destruction for the greater good of peace. Genghis Khan was a very honorable leader who created the Mongolians immense peace. Were the Mongols barbaric though? The village economy was particularly interesting, and Olaudah's descriptions are very revealing. His people needed guns because other villages had them. The guns were brought to Africa by the Europeans, who used them to trade. (That the Europeans both supplied and fulfilled this need bears mention.) Olaudah states that he had never seen a European; his people traded with wandering merchants who acted as middlemen. These middlemen traded guns for potash, which they probably used in trade again elsewhere. Later in his life Olaudah also saw iron pots, crossbows, and European cutlasses among African people. This clearly illustrates the trade that developed between coastal tribes and Europeans, and the existence of middlemen who worked along established trade routes.

Trade across the Sahara existed for many eras before the Common Era but it was periodic, incidental, modest, and much unorganized. During this time, the trade goods were carried on the backs of cattle known as pack-oxen. “The pack-oxen became accustomed to desert conditions allowing them to travels days without water as they traveled from one water source to the other.” The problem with the oxen was that they were unable to travel without rest and water which was hard to come by. Because of the time dependency of the oxen travel across the Sahara was very dangerous. It took ages for the merchandise to reach its attended destination. The trade remained unorganized until around the 5th century when the domestication of the camel revolutionized desert travel.

Labyrinths have been around for many centuries. From early Celts to India to ancient Andean Indian mountain cultures, labyrinths have been a spectacle and wonder for as long as humans have wandered this planet. Creating a garden labyrinth can be as simple as the early Celts most common labyrinths or as complex as the Nazca lines. Creating a garden labyrinth begins with a good layout. Since a labyrinth isn 't like a maze with any deceiving traps or dead ends-using a linear measuring device is recommended. What do I mean by linear measuring device? Simply put, a rope, chain, garden hose electrical cord or other easily measurable line. By using a linear measurement, you can quickly gauge an estimate of the amount of materials you will need for creating a garden labyrinth. Layout the garden hose, electrical cord, rope, chain-whatever you use-from a starting point. Now begin walking a path from start to finish. It 's really that simple. However there are so many choices available, you may not know where to begin. Most labyrinths begin from the outside of a pattern, circuit, rosette, flower petal, symbol or some kind of uniform design. While I 'm not saying every labyrinth has to be concentric and uniform-you can create a garden labyrinth completely abstract-what I am saying is uniform labyrinths are more typical and that is what this article will mostly emphasize. Another common feature that bonds labyrinths is that while they start from the outside, they usually end up in
At 5,895 meters, Mt. Kilimanjaro is the tallest freestanding mountain. But lately, the glaciers on this towering mountain have been noticeably decreasing. The media has conflicting headlines and theories. Scientists have been studying this problem for many years, the receding glaciers have not been narrowed down to one exact cause. Theories range from climate change to undersurface magma, yet, no one knows how we can limit the melting glaciers.
Taliesin West was constructed in 1937 in a desert location in Arizona. It was the home for Wright until his death in 1959. Its design was a direct response to its dry landscape. Wright felt strongly about the atmosphere of the desert. He said: “Arizona needs its own architecture… Arizona’s long, low, sweeping lines, uptilting planes. Surface patterned after such abstraction in line and color as find 'realism' in the patterns of the rattlesnake, the Gila monster, the chameleon, and the saguaro, cholla or staghorn – or is it the other way around—are inspiration enough” (archdaily) Its function was for a place of residence, business and education. Similar to Fallingwater, materials for its construction were sourced locally resembling the harmonious
