The different between eustress and distress are, eustress is good stress and distress is bad stress (Manning, Curtis, McMillen, Attenweiler, 2011). There is also two additional stress. Stress is very well known for just what it means: STRESS. Its effect on human beings from a local and a global standpoint is far greater than any of us imagine. Stress can overtake one’s body physically, mentally, emotionally, as well as behavioral aspects. This is not something to take lightly. This is actually very serious. If you notice, it’s not just older people that die this day and time with heart attacks, suicide, and things of this nature. People of all ages. Older people, younger people, and even really young people. Children, yes, I said children. Don’t automatically think that stress only affects older people that have lived a longer
Q1. Explain the difference between positive stress (Eustress) and negative stress (Distress). Provide an example of each.
Stress affects health in a number of ways. It is defined by James (2011) as pressure or tension that comes in many shapes and forms and furthermore the body and mind in particular reacts psychologically and even emotionally.
Stress affects your health without you even realizing it. Constant headaches or trouble sleeping would be something stress causes often. This can get bad enough which leads to serious health problems such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Stress effects your body with things like muscle
According to ULifeline, “stress is a burst of energy that basically advises you on what to do. In small doses, stress has many advantages. For instance, stress can help you meet daily challenges and motivates you to reach your goals. In fact, stress can help you accomplish tasks more efficiently. It can even boost memory… [And] help to fortify the immune system.”
Stress is an adaptive response to a situation that is perceived as challenging or threating to the person’s well-being. Distress – negative destructive effects, can be caused from boredom or under stimulation or overstimulation. Eustress –positive, constructive effects which are better performance, etc.
The difference between eustress and distress is that one is good and the other is bad. Eustress also known as good stress is like playing basketball and wanting to get better so you practice a little harder to reach your goal. You exercise regularly and you also get those shots up to perfect your touch. In other words, you develop your game with practice but sometimes it gets a little stressful. Nevertheless, the stress you go through makes you better in the long run. Distress can also be incorporated with basketball. When you suffer an injury from playing basketball a person tends to stress out wondering if they can return to playing ball like they was before the injury. A specific injury would be a torn ligament or maybe even a busted
Stress is nothing to mess with. Acute stress is the leading cause of sudden death, especially in young healthy people with no evidence of coronary disease. I myself deal with stress, it effects over mood, thoughts, and feelings. There is a large amount of stressors that lead to people having stress. There are ways also to prevent stress.
The blood to the heart may be slow because the blood becoming stickier and more likely to clot in plaque deposits can build up in the major arteries (Scott & Snyder, 2017). Prolonged stress response that describes the “wear and tear” on the body is called allostatic load. This has been linked to heart disease, hypertension, and obesity. It can also cause a reduction in cognitive thinking quality and immune system functioning (Fahey, 2015). Not only is the physical aspects contributions, that effect the health of the heart and blood unsettling, but the mental state is as well.
Distress occurs when stress has proceeded past the optimal level.Distress has a negative impact on body and mind and can cause exhaustion, fatigue, and lack of accurate performance. If stress continues, health may deteriorate. In contrast, eustress is also a form of stress, but unlike distress, eustress has positive reactions, this kind of stress can stem from events like exams at school or athletes before they start a game.Eustress maybe good for us because it gives a boost of energy and can increase chances of better performance, an example of this can be the eustress a speaker experiences before he gives a speech, this kind of stress can motivate the speaker to practice or recite the speech, and can also improve the memory of the speaker and
Distress and eustress are both essential for survival. They cause a person to react differently in demanding situations. Good stress is helpful in keeping us productive and motivated to accomplish our goals. “Stress can sometimes be a positive, motivating force that can improve the quality of our lives. This kind of stress, called eustress”(PSY101-12.1). This kind of stress is helpful in bringing the best out of an individual. For example, eustress helps us prepare for an event, in the same way a boxer would train heavily to be in the best physical shape possible for his big fight. The stress would motivate the boxer to get up early and train everyday for a positive outcome of his fight and to be victorious the night of his bout. “But
Firstly, it is well known that long term stress has detrimental effects on the body, and the mind. Distress is the type of stress that has negative implications, whereas eustress has a positive form of stress, usually related to desirable events in someone’s life. Therefore, I would characterize the Genentech’s employees as experiencing eustress. For example, all these programs that Genentech offers to its employees make life less stressful. The employees, who work for Genentech, enjoy working and they are proud of the cancer-fighting drugs their company produce, and also the egalitarian policies.
