Evocation:
Once the cycles are completed, hold a group discussion and encourage everyone to share their thoughts on the effectiveness of the breathing exercise. You might find out that it worked wonderfully at relaxing their bodies, or maybe that it didn’t work properly for some people. They can also share which cycle they preferred more; one where they hold their breath in for a longer period of time etc.
Objective Enquiry:
This where the teacher will now explain the importance of the breathing exercise. They will explain, with the help of PowerPoints and videos, how something as simple as expelling old air from our bodies can help calm a person. Moving forward, the teacher will now explain what stress is, what it looks like, and how it affects one’s body. They will also explain that stress can be combatted effectively if a person can identify what is causing it in the first place. Once you understand the threat, you can come up with a plan with how to deal with it.
Skills Practice and Application:
Each person will be given a worksheet with a pen. They will be asked to identify what is causing the stress (i.e. school, job, family life). Once they identify the threat, they will have to identify a “dream situation” where that stress no longer exists, and what that is. So, for instance, a person will write down that they successfully passed all their exams and the stress of failing is gone. Now the

An obstacle or barrier that might hinder this improvement would be human nature, because it’s easy for human to get stressed and be clouded with thoughts to be able to solve the issue of handling stress. On Wednesday, September 27, 2017, I attended a Stress and Anxiety workshop at the Miller Learning Center in room 207 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event was hosted by University Health Center Counseling and Psychiatric Services for personal enrichment. The purpose of this session was to learn about new ways to manage stress and anxiety while maintaining a hectic schedule. As I entered the room, there was a group of 30 diverse students - ones who I would assume had everything under control. It became less nerve-racking as there were students ranging from freshman to seniors, boys and girls, students of color - anxiety bonded us together. Our instructor, Dr. Debra Kay Alvis, provided a calm and kind presence: soothing her audience after their long day of stress. She broke her lecture into two sections: science and experiment.
