In the role of assistant principal, I would strive to build relationships with all stakeholders (students, parents, staff, board of education, and community). In order to build relationships with students, I would have a presence in the school. Welcome students as they come in the school, have conversations with students in the hall and cafeteria, be present at school functions and athletics. Building relations with students is much more than a discipline meeting. Being present at activities and athletics is a great way to engage both parents and the larger community. When discipline meetings do occur, I would reach out to the parents to include them in the conversation.
In order to build relationships with staff, I would make myself
Likewise, I have had the responsibility of supervising extra- curricular activities, supporting in the administration of state examinations, assisting with safety drills, and helping to conduct safety inspections. In this position, I have also had the experience of serving on various parent, student, and faculty boards. Therefore, I am fully confident of my abilities to accept the duties and responsibilities of an Assistant Principal, including developing the student curriculum, helping to operate the school within the budget, meeting with teachers, disciplining students, speaking with parents and keeping current with educational trends and local, state, and federal laws that relate to
Teaching Assistants (TAs) have an essential role to play in the smooth and effective running of a school. They are an extra pair of eyes, ears and hands for the teacher and give support to the structure of the school.
I also must check the pupils work, if necessary help them to catch up, encourage them to correct their own mistakes and provide them with support to learn independently. In order to do that I must develop a positive working relationship with the pupils. That can be achieved by listening to them, gaining their trust and confidence, always respecting and valuing them, knowing that children must be safe at all times.
Teaching Assistant’s goal is to work with classroom teachers and support them and their responsibilities for the development and education of pupils, including pupils with special needs (physical, emotional, educational). Teaching assistant should be involved in the planning cycle and might contribute to it by providing ideas, materials and learning strategies for lessons, organising and managing learning experiences, recording the achievements and more. Teaching assistant should always make sure that she/he understands what the learning objectives of activities are and how the success of the activities is going to be measured. If teaching assistant has any concerns regarding the planning, he/she should share it with the teacher by giving constructive
If I were principal, my plan to improve school community relations would begin with a whole school concerted to effort to learn about the new cultural groups in the community and provide opportunities for school community members to come together to build relationships with the new families. Secondly, I would make sure to introduce myself to the new community members and use my people skills to build relationships with new businesses and community
To create and work on positive relationships in schools, you need to show and role model effective communication in conversations with other adults and the way you approach other adults
Many classrooms have educational assistant’s, this should guarantee that the classroom runs smoothly, consequently in the extra one on one help from the teacher.
As principal of TWH, I feel it is vital to keep the urgency focused on academics. It is my belief that if we set students up for challenging and engaging classroom instruction, discipline issues will start to lessen. However, my teachers will feel supported and respected, and that will be communicated regularly to our students and school community. “…leaders treat others fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect—and they establish the expectation that others in the school community act in a similar manner” (Murphy, 2006).
As a teacher, this activity has made me aware of the duties that principals carry out on a regular basis, in addition to the value they place on disciplining students that are referred to the front office.
The teaching assistant must support the culture of the school and must work collaboratively with the classroom teachers in their responsibility for the development and education of children. The teaching assistant should use their knowledge and skills and must be involved in the planning cycle.
It is just like any other day for Cathy Hurley, principal of Wylie E. Groves High School. She sat at her desk, blindly clicking through several emails, her tortoise glasses resting lazily on the tip of her nose. The sun was hidden behind several thick, grey clouds; it looked like it would snow later. The thought of getting new tires for the upcoming weather briefly crossed her mind when there was a sudden knock at the door, making her jump. She briefly fixed her glasses and smoothed down her hair before calling “Come in!”
Please accept this letter and the accompanying materials in application for the Assistant Principal position at Thornton High School. Through my research of your school, I was impressed by its historic track record of success and the current opportunity to help students with the greatest needs. I hope to work alongside your administration team to advocate for teachers, support students, and partner with parents to build and maintain a school culture that encourages students to become intellectually curious, thoughtful, and compassionate citizens. I am highly qualified for the Assistant Principal position and bring a unique set of perspectives, skills, and experiences that include:
The means being present in learning communities, frequent data conversations, attending baby showers, weddings, asking about family members, attending funerals and more. Principals must demonstrate a deep caring attitude to all staff members as this will create loyalty amongst the team. Principals will also be able demonstrate proactive behaviors to diffuse forecasted misbehavior among adults.
In terms of becoming a mediator and consensus builder the authors detailed the need for principals to possess relational leadership skills in order to be able to both facilitate groups and coach others on staff in the ability to facilitate their own groups, and stressed that the key to this is the ability to effectively participate in conflict resolution (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, & Ackerman, 2009). The authors suggested that conflict is part and parcel of school reform and that in addition to being able to deal effectively with conflict the successful principal needs to develop the ability for bringing about consensus within the group, noting that interpersonal and intrapersonal skills were as much or more important than knowledge (Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie, & Ackerman, 2009).
The principal’s role in developing positive community relations sets the tone for communication patterns, partnership formation and/or alienation (Fiore, 2013). There are many tasks that the principal has that is important to school and community relations. Some of those are being a good listener, diplomatic and tactful and all situations. They also have to promote the open door policy to be free to communicate with students, parents, and their staff. They also have to inform the superintendent and community about good and bad things that are
