To the logical, systematic, and organized eye, doors devoid of paint and baring old wood smoothed and molded from constant contact, archaic heating systems bellowing out frigid air in the dead of winter and clacking so loudly you would think a student was kicking it, and rusted water pipes so boiling hot they warp the linoleum tiles in the dusty band hallway would be enough to drive even the most stoic man mad. But to me, these quirks have become a sense of comfort and homeliness throughout my four years as a student at Attleboro High School. Though it may sound odd, the decrepit state of our school building was one of the strongest unifying forces for the class of 2018, causing a great amount of student action ironically in an effort to …show more content…
Guidance counselors worked under massives levels of stress in their efforts to address the concerns of parents and students regarding the dropping of many classes including some AP classes and CTE programs. But it was because of this determination and cohesiveness, constant hard work and cooperation, that the 2017-2018 school year had come, and nearly passed, in a similar fashion to the years before it: without many sizeable upsets. It was through this event, caused by the lack of resources present to us as a school and as a city, that we were to become aware of what our community was capable of when we worked together towards a common goal.
Because of the imperfections evident in my high school and deeply rooted in the city’s and state’s allocation of education funding it has become clear to me why I love my high school community so much. It is not the material possessions that we have (because compared to nearby cities and town like Newport, Mansfield, or even North Attleboro we are definitely lacking), or the quality of education that we receive (because I was forced into taking more electives this year than I have over the past three years combined due to scheduling issues and overcrowded classes), but our ability to come together in times of need, put aside our differences, and facilitate positive change. Though we have our differences and fights break out or names are called, when serious issues
Waking up in the morning, going to sleep at night, and doing what one loves in between, is what success means. That, to me, encompasses being able to help people and possibly save lives as a career. There is a nobility in succeeding in certain areas one cares deeply about. Having the ability and capability to protect and serve is a strong desire within me. Developing my education, in order to further my success something that I perceive as a crucial aspect of being able to do what I love. Attending Endicott is the first step in this journey of mine.
In the McWhorter School of Building Science in the College of Architecture, students have had a 100% employment rate in the two previous semesters (Nobles). This statistic alone shows one perk Auburn University has over many other colleges. Auburn University is the best college because it has the best job opportunities, the best major, and the best traditions.
Mountain City Schools have always had a respected reputation for receiving community support. In last couple years, they have been experiencing a sudden decrease in support because of the low test scores on national standardized tests and
1. Question: Why does Gatto think that school is boring and childish? How does Gatto’s depiction of school compare with your own elementary and secondary school experience?
Oakland fell into the Alternative Education Law program. Students worked at their own pace and speed to complete school. Oakland High School generally graduated between 15-20 students a year. Several smaller programs existed within the school, such as Region 5, or ALC (Alternative Learning Center) program or Lincoln Tree Farm. Region 5 were for student who were in transition from just being released from either Echo Glenn or Green hill youth jail facilities. They worked with a JRA representatives and would complete school work and prepare to reenter the comprehensive high school setting. They would have no contact with the remainder of the building and programs. This program ended during the 2007-2008 school year.
The walking tour of Elizabeth City State University is a study of the university’s history from the perspective of student education landmarks, dorm landmarks, and attraction landmarks.
I’m proud to be a Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, SCCA, bear. When I first enrolled at SCCA as a freshman, the school was nothing but a small, dull institution that focused on academics and nothing else. There were no sports teams, clubs, or school activities. The public viewed the school as a failure and assumed that it was no place for students to grow and experience what high school is like, but SCCA is nothing like the things people say it is. It may be different from the rest of the high schools in Porterville, California, but SCCA is very unique and is genuinely determined to prepare students for the real world. I aspired to do all that I could to make SCCA a better high school, so I joined my school's leadership team, also known as ASB, during my freshman year. Since the moment I joined ASB, I fell in love with the purpose of the organization. I loved to help out the school, and I loved planning events and activities that helped create a better high school experience for all of the students.
I’m sitting in my first class of the day. I skipped breakfast because traffic was going to be horrible. Now, I’m here, stuck with an empty stomach. When we are starving, we usually crave the first food item we can find. I figure someone who hates, I mean, completely loathes broccoli would eat it if it meant the broccoli would stop their starvation. I’m not stuck on a deserted island with limited resources. I’m a college student who is very hungry. Isn’t that the same thing?

Response Paper 4 – How have economic development and globalization changed the ecology of human health and disease? In your discussion, include aging, infectious disease, and chronic disease. You should discuss the concept of epidemiological transitions
For the past 17 years, Elk Mound has been my home. When most people drive through the village on highway 12, they glance ahead, not noticing the community around them. The people living, working, or attending school here are not only my friends, but in a way, my family. I have grown up with people who have more in common with my rather than just where we live. There are 66 young adults in my class today, and I have known everyone’s name since first grade. Attending a small high school has given me multiple opportunities to join a variety of clubs. If I am playing a basketball game, running in a meet, or participating at the State Academic Decathlon meet, I see familiar faces from my community. The support of a small community is personal. Since
Herndon High School has embraced the following mission statement, “All Hornets Are Capable of Success, No Exceptions!” Herndon became a Kids At Hope school. Herndon encourages students to believe in their individual potential and challenge themselves to define success. They understand the importance of finding hope in the face of adversity. Students when presented with challenges see the opportunity for change and growth. Last year, in the first implementation year of Kids At Hope, the HHS faculty and staff focused on creating a culture where WE BELIEVE in the success of all of our students, NO EXCEPTIONS!. The real strength of the Kids at Hope movement is the way adults interact with students and how students have come to interact with each
It takes more than words and ideas to put lasting positive change in place, it takes action. Throughout the summer, I kept in contact with the school's administration, and before the first week of school was over, a back to school dance was scheduled. Even though scheduling, and setting up the dance required a lot of work, I was proud that I could do something that everyone in the school could enjoy. As of today the reforms I made to the student council are in full swing. The year is not half over a year, and there has already been twice as many events as in previous full years. Not only that, but things that were unthinkable in the past, such as free admission for most students, have been achieved. Now we come to the most important lesson I think I have ever learned. That real change is possible. Not only in a school setting, but in our homes, and our government. Togethar, through our combined efforts and abilities, we can come together and change our society for the better. The forces of stasis and ossification may seem eternal, but all it takes is one moment where everyone comes together for us to achieve postive and worthwhile
I have been accepted to both Payton High School and Phillips Academy at Exeter. These are both great High Schools and I can learn a lot at both of them. Exeter is a boarding school in New Hampshire which is one of the top high schools in the nation and is well known for teaching all of it’s classes the the Harkness method in which every student discusses the topic around one table. Payton is a selective enrollment school in Chicago and is in the top ten public high schools in the United States. Both of these schools are good choices for High School but I need to chose one over the other.
“The construction is not conducive for a good learning environment”, says Nikki Laubham, a teacher and parent. This statement could not be more true in this case. An average day in Penn Trafford High School (PTHS) consists of ceiling tiles removed, mysterious liquids dripping from pipes, and rooms being changed around at the last moment. You wouldn’t believe that students still had to manage their way around this school. Hallways are closed down, carpet are ripped up, and even walls nocked down. This picture on the left was taken by Jackson Laubham, a sophomore at PTHS. “Having conditions like the one shown in the picture puts stress on students which will impair their leering ability”, comments Nikki when I showed her this picture. I had the pleasure of talking to my former teacher, Mark
