A Database Management System or (DBMS) is an essential tool for any organization or company in today’s modern world. A DBMS is “a group of programs that manipulate the database and provide an interface between the database and its users and other application programs” (Stair & Reynolds, 2011, p. 189). So in choosing the right DBMS there are many factoring issues with choosing the right one for the company or organization. When choosing a DBMS one has to think about how the system will ultimately help the company or organization with day to day processes and the goals of the company or organization.

This paper will compare and contrast five different database management systems on six criteria. The database management systems (DBMS) that will be discussed are SQL Server 2000, Access, MySQL, DB2, and Oracle. The criteria that will be compared are the systems ' functionality, the requirements that must be met to run the DBMS, the expansion capabilities – if it is able to expand to handle more data over time, the types of companies that typically use each one, the normal usage of the DBMS, and the costs associated with implementing the DBMS.

A significant disadvantage of the DBMS system is cost. In addition to the cost of purchasing of developing the software, the hardware has to be upgraded to allow for the extensive programs and the workspace required for their execution and storage. While centralization reduces duplication, the lack of duplication requires that the database be adequately backed up so that in case of failure the data can be recovered.

Databases have long been known around the office water cooler as costly, important, difficult, and multifaceted. Looking at many history timelines and the patterns of computer information technology companies; the database is getting frowned upon. The Database implementation is getting old and showing wear and tear. Every company has data, whether its how many hot dogs they are buying and whom is purchasing to what speed internet should be available in which areas. It just depends on the company’s profit and goals. Since, data is so important how is it stored and kept. Companies are using databases to store their important information that they will later make use of.

That is where database management systems (DBMS) come into play. “A database management system is a collection of programs that enables users to create and maintain a database. The DBMS is a general-purpose software system that facilitates the processes of defining, constructing, manipulating, and sharing databases among various users and applications” [1]. Analyzing these database managements systems could potentially have huge benefits since companies could determine when and where to sell products, track certain trends, and possibly predict future outcomes.

The DBMS manage incoming data, organize it, and provided ways for the data to be modified or extract by users or other programs. This cause, most database software comes with an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver that allows the database to integrate with other databases. For example, common SQL statements such as SELECT and INSERT are translated from a program's proprietary syntax into a syntax other databases can understand. Some DBMS examples include PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Oracle, FileMaker, RDBMS, dBASE, Clipper, and FoxPro. It is a software system that uses a standard method of retrieving, and running queries on data.

Implementing a DBMS system within any organization large or small requires proper planning, analyzing files and shared drives and a knowledgeable DBA (Database Administrator, in-depth knowledge of DBMS architecture. Using a DBMS to store and manage data comes with advantages, but also overhead. One of the biggest advantages of using a DBMS is that it lets end users and application programmers access and use the same data while managing data integrity. Data is better protected and maintained when it can be shared using a DBMS instead of creating new iterations of the same data stored in new files for every new application. The DBMS provides a central store of data that can be accessed by multiple users in a controlled manner.

It is difficult for the companies to develop and control the database. Database Management Systems help organizations to consolidate and standardize large files of data.

The RDBMS is so widely used because of its simplicity to understand relationships between data. The data can also be analyzed in many ways using queries, reports, etc. A database management system covers all functions of the business and is essential for businesses to be run efficiently. Since the introduction of this time of database management system in 1970 it has triumphed many former types of widely used databases and fended off new types of databases to remain the most common type.

Improvement in the technology with reducing time taken for a project has increased the automation in the country. A rising number of companies have started including mechanized or automated services in their portfolio. The major reason of its popularity has been the loaded faults and defects in the manual services and for overcoming the faults, the companies have to devise the automated versions of their services. The companies have been finding different possible combinations of man, machine and consumables for achieving the best possible solution. With the advent of automated version of the services, the chances of human error have been minimized.

The development of the new system contains the following activities, which try to automate the entire process keeping in view of the database integration approach.
