Organisation Services
Due to AWAHS receiving funding to upgrade their facilities they are now able to provide more services to the indigenous community. While their medical staff do specialise in specific areas of Indigenous health they prefer to think of themselves as providing a more generalised approach, due to the complex nature of most of Indigenous health issues and the likelihood that they overlap with other health problems.
Dental Services- AWAHS has specific dental facilities with an onsite dental surgery, dentist and dental team. They cover all aspects of dental care e.g. dentures, crowns and oral surgeries. They provide these services with the aim of providing better oral health care and education to the Indigenous community. They also understand the anxiety that may

They have 4 onsite GP’s available providing general medical care, obstetric knowledge, minor surgeries e.g. skin excisions and a broad range of mental health knowledge. Working alongside the GPs they have 5 nurses each specialising in their own fields such as midwifery, antenatal and postnatal care, chronic clinical conditions and child and family health.
Allied Health Services- There are a wide range of Allied Health services provided at the AWAHS clinic, they have outside services that visit on certain days to the clinic making it more convenient for the Indigenous community to attend. Some services include: Optometry, psychology, speech pathology and podiatry,
Transport- AWAHS have their own drivers that provide the service of transporting people to and from their appointments at AWAHS, this aims to ensure that people are able to get to their appointments as many people in the indigenous community may not have a license or access to a car for
Medical travel can be very stressful physically, emotionally, and financially. Moreover, due to very high unemployment rate most of the families cannot afford to have their own transportation vehicles to access primary care in the community. Transportation issue can also lead to missing appointments or delayed treatments. There are minimal health care services in the aboriginal communities, particularly those that are in rural, remote, and in north with limited to access to medical technology, equipment, supplies and medications (HCC, 2013). Majority of Aboriginals do not have access to technology, therefore, access to health information and promotion is limited. Telehealth and other virtual or mobile health care programs are available; the problem is that communities do not always have adequate information and communication technology and other infrastructures to reliably deliver these programs. The lack of a modern
I believe a good thing about current health care in rural areas is The Royal Flying Doctors Service, which delivers primary health care and emergency services to those in rural areas (Flyingdoctor.org.au, 2015).
The services includes; health screening, education and prevention programs for diabetes, obesity and HIV, screening and access to child immunization and shots for adult clients. This service is extremely important because so many people are lacking health care, especially if they come from a small reservation they might lack the capacity to for example find a disease like cancer, in one of their patients. They provide access to primary care by making contracts with different community clinics and medical providers for medical, dental and specialty care. They also provide culturally sensitive services because there are sometimes cultural issues between the doctor, and the patient due to different belief systems. The clinic provides services like physicals, management of medicine, STD/STI screening, pap smears, pregnancy testing breast exams, and contraceptives. It is important to note, that the also have health services for seniors/elders, nutrition and weight loss. The only requirement is the patient has to be a member of a federally recognized tribe or one that is state recognized to receive health education/service programs. The primary care clinic varies from clinic to clinic and should be consulted before
The organization provides the usual array of inpatient services expected in a moderate-sized community hospital. A local nursing home
The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CN) is one of the many Native American tribes that place a great emphasis on health care. There are noticeable efforts and investments in improving the health care system in the Cherokee Nation. Through the building of health care centers, launching health programs, and individually engaged tribal members in the health field, the Cherokee Nation is striving to improve the overall health care of their people.
During the interview I was told about the challenges faced in the 70s, which included poor health services to indigenous. Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS), National Aboriginal and Islander Health Organisation (NAIHO) were then formed to tackle the poor health issues.
Since the 1970’s, many Indigenous communities have established their own independent, community-controlled health services (ACCHs) and an over-arching representatives advocacy body, the National Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Organisation (NACCHO previously NAIHO) was formed in 1975.
Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Services or AWAHS is one of many indigenous health services available in this community they provide many different services to the indigenous population of Albury-Wodonga and work collectively with other organisations around the area to provide a broad range of services.

The North East LHIN continue to work on advancements in Aboriginal health initiatives that help improve access and coordination for the individuals who live in Northeastern Ontario. The challenges that occurred with the Northeastern Aboriginals were that they experienced lower health status, than the rest of the population that lived in Northeastern Ontario (NE LHIN, 2016). The reconciliation and health care strategy plan was a necessity for the aboriginals in order to improve gaps and duplications of services provided, unused technology due to lack of knowledge and staff and to overall sustain the community (NE LHIN, 2016). In the opportunities strategic direction, the plan's goal was to increase
This report provides the summary of the health services provided by The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia.
Access to the communities is provided year round by Wasaya Airline and airstrips that are maintained by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Of course, each Aboriginal community is unique with its own set of traditions and ways of healing but my observation after working within the communities for over ten years is that they all suffer from improperished conditions and substandard housing. The local economies are primarily based upon government services (Indian and Northern Affairs) (INAC) and small business. Most of the reserves have six hundred people or less, and each community has a nursing station. The nursing stations are well-maintained functional buildings built in or about the early 1960’s and are maintained by Health Canada. First Nations and Inuit Health (FNIH) maintains responsibility for primary care services in the majority of the northwest Ontario reserve communities. In the north, nurses are the primary care givers working in an extended scope of practice, and client care is centrally coordinated by nurses working within interdisciplinary teams. The majority of the nursing and medical staff working for FNIH in the Sioux Lookout zone are Caucasian and do not come from local communities. This could outwardly appear as a reinforcement of power relations in the racial identities. There is only very limited cultural training given to employees when they are employed by FNIH. Medical advice and
While she worked at ASH, she worked closely with several Aboriginal health practitioners who helped her develop her cultural competence among the indigenous patients. Katrina joined the Alcohol and Other Drugs team, learned about retrieval medicine with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and she participated in education and health promotion programs throughout the indigenous youth in the local remote
