A Decade of Fashion
The changes of colors and style, hand made fabrics and new styles being creating making the 1960’s the year of breaking the fashion rules, Barbara Hulanicki the fashion icon made fashion change with her new designs. Barbara Hulanicki founder of the very popular store front “Biba “ changed the fashion game when she created clothing for the young generation that she herself could not wear. Her aunt was not ok with her wearing certain styles so once she got the chance to choose her own fashion she went with it. Barbara is the best 1960’s fashion designer because she changed fashion with her youthful urban designed filled clothing ,and is so inspiring for not holding back her style ,and bringing new things to the table.

After the war everyone seemed dreary and sad,so she wanted to make brighter colors for clothing to bring some happiness back. Hulanicki clothing were cute and modern and made for everyone not just upper class. The clothing that she made was really in style and affordable, so not just upper class could be wearing these trendy clothes but lower classes were able to afford this clothing too, which showed that even if you don't have lots of money you are still as good as rich people. Barbara started losing control of Biba when she sold part of it and eventually closed the biba empire. When Biba closed in 1976,Barbara decided to work for fiorucci and cacharel and from 1980-1992 she made a children's wear line called “minirock. Once Biba closed her fashion career did not end there,she ended up making another line of clothing for children. Liz Claiborne immigrated from Belgium to America. When Liz claiborne saw that many women were entering into business, she saw the need for comfortable women work clothes. When liz claiborne had this idea she could not convince her employers that they needed better women clothes. Since, her company launched her clothes are popular. Technology has had a major impact on the progress of fashion between the 1945’s and 1960’s and beyond. People used to have busy lifestyles before the growth of technology to help them. During WW2, there was a shortage of fabrics and people needed to preserve them. However, once the world got into a stable post-war time which were the 50s, there were more intricate outfits which used large amounts of fabric. Technology also allowed more different varieties of dyes and fibers to be made which added more of a personal touch to fashion and gave a feeling of wellbeing and comfort.

During her career, she inspired numerous fashion trends and worked on several popular films. Edith Head was very secretive about her childhood and would often lie about it when asked a question. A close friend of hers David Chierichetti eventually learned all about it (Jorgensen, 13).

As for psychographics of the company, the goal is to provide attire that can be worn straight from work to a night on the town. The target market, being young professional women, can appreciate the designer price zone, because even though they are professional at work, they also enjoy the nightlife and make enough money to maintain their splurges and bills. For this they need versatile, high fashion garments at prices that won't spoil their income. They have a great mix that they market and manage very well.
