Progressive Writer In the beginning of the semester my writing skills were not so great, as I look back now and see how much I have grown and became a stronger writer. Now I am proud to say I have stronger writing skills. During the time of me trying to adjust to college life, there were many different obstacles I had to overcome. Some of which are procrastination, criticism, and comma and punctuation placement. Some of which I still have trouble with today, but I am way better then I first started. Starting with procrastination, I felt that with some assignments I could wait, put them off till another time and do them when I got ready. When I first started college the advice I got was do your work at your own pace but I soon realized that
I feel I have improved overall in all aspects of writing; specially in citing my work, introducing quotes, word diction, time management and grammar. Prior to taking this class I was not able to properly cite my work and continuously struggled on my works cited page. After not scoring too well on my novel essay works cited I took it upon myself and reached out for extra help. Through additional help and learning the material I am now able to properly cite my work. Another aspect of writing I felt I improved in this semester is, introducing quotes. Prior to taking this class I struggled to introduce quotes effectively. Throughout High school, I would typically state a quotation with very little introduction. I have improved tremendously and am now able to properly introduce quotes by giving a small explanation on what the quote is going to focus on, while also stating the presenters name. My word diction this semester has improved and has helped my writing significantly. While writing I am constantly looking up synonyms for words and attempting to enhance them. Better word diction improves your writing and makes you seem more knowledgeable
The beginning of my junior year seems like it was such a long time ago. This may be because of how much I have grown since the start of the year. When I began AP English, my writing skills needed improvement. For instance, I often used incorrect grammar and struggled with staying on topic. In just one semester, my writing has improved immensely. The more than I write, the more I learn about how to craft a good paper. I have worked on improving my grammar, using rhetoric, addressing my subject, and many more elements of writing. In addition to improving my writing, I have gained many skills to become a better student. I have learned about effective study techniques and time-management skills that allow me to be the most successful. Since I always try my best, I know that over time I will continue to grow in my studies. This year I have gained countless skills that will help me succeed in English in the future.
As the semester approaches a conclusion, I have discovered for myself that I happen to exhibit not simply on how I have endured this semester, but then again also what I have gained in knowledge of. In the past four months, I would consider that I obtain an accomplishment of achievement in improving my writing techniques. The most important principle that I have discovered so far ensues on how to become an improved writer. With each writing assignment, I learned additional methods and skills, which tweaked my capabilities to develop my thoughts in detail on paper, to write clearly, and to organize my essays efficiently. In previous years, I would frequently catch myself irritated believing I had terrible writer’s block standing in my path of writing an organized essay. This created a feeling as if I could not distinguish how to write properly and the reasoning behind my hatred for writing. During high school, I learned the Modern Language Association (MLA) formats for bibliographies and parenthetical citations, consequently at the beginning of the fall semester, I knew only this format. I was able to learned the correct format for the American Psychological Association (APA) style when doing each assignment at hand.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things to improve my writing. Having taken the course before, this semester has been an excellent opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge. Although I had written many essays before, there is still much to be learned and improved. Two factors of writing that I had learned or improved on this semester were transitions/topic sentences and how to properly structure a conclusion paragraph.
This year in Honors Freshman Literature and Composition, I have grown tremendously as a writer. My essays from the beginning of the year to the end have showed that I have greatly progressed in many skills that I have worked on. While I have acquired strengths this year, I also have weaknesses that I hope to improve next year in my writing.
From the beginning of the semester to now, my improvement is almost breathe taking. I now know what a good writing is, and I take consideration into whatever it is I am writing instead of just putting words together and putting them down on paper. Of course I am not perfect; I still have some areas that I can focus on to help myself become an even more advanced writer. Comma splices, sometimes-even uses of dead words are my weaknesses. We are all creatures of habit, and straying away from those old habits are complicated.
As a writer, I have improved greatly since the first exploratory narrative essay. There have been many challenges that I have faced in my writing, but I have dealt with them in the best way possible. Over the course of the three papers I have written, I have improved in the flow of the papers, as well as the content of the papers. This semester, I have managed to overcome most of the challenges in my writing and have grown as a writer because of it.
As a second-year college student, I would say my writing has developed since my first year of college. A few examples that demonstrate my writing improvements are transitioning. Transitioning has always been something I struggled in, but in this article, I believe that my transiting to each paragraph is more smooth. When I begin to close my second paragraph, I close my sentence with a sentence that gives closer to the reader and makes it easier to start the next paragraph without leaving them wondering from the previous paragraph. Another skill I improved on is my thesis statement. My thesis statement clearly states what essentially my article will be about, so the reader is able to know ahead of time what will be talked about and not left wondering. Lastly, I felt I did great was explaining the reason for my quote I chose to use. Each time I would use a quote, I would then give a good explanation incorporating it to my sentence or topic in that paragraph. Which initially I believe I have always been good at explaining my reason for the quotes I use.
This past month has taught me so much about myself as a writer. The areas I struggle with along with the areas I have improved in. Although my writing process has changed, there are still areas that need improvement. I have a better understanding of a sentence structure. Being able to make a complete sentence and have the correct verb, noun and punctuation makes all the difference with your writing. Your ideas need to be complete thoughts. This is one of the areas that I often struggled with as I had fragment sentences, comma splice errors and punctuation issues. The improvements come from the type of assignments we had this class. Our blog writings, discussions with videos and essay writing has helped me tremendously. The assignments I felt,
Though my experiences with writing have not been as great throughout the years, I am beginning to improve. I still have notable weaknesses, but then again everyone does. With that being said, I am looking forward to improving my strengths and weaknesses in writing this semester.
During this second semester, I learned about many techniques that enhanced my writing. I cannot believe that my first year of college is over because it seems like yesterday I attended my first class. I will use this techniques throughout the rest of my life to make my paper stronger and more professional. As I continue to learn I will add techniques I learn in the future to make my writing even stronger. I believe my writing is strong, but can
I improved as a writer this semester because I became better at composing sentences. I improved not only my grammar but also the content of the sentences and how I articulate my ideas. This portfolio represents an accurate picture of me as a writer, because it shows how I write in an academic setting and the subjects I love. This is apparent in the choices that I made in my selection of writings. However, it could better represent my progress if I had included my scores and comments from all of my assignments. Though, I do believe that this portfolio showcases my progress this semester.
What I didn't realize at the time was that procrastinating on my assignments not only made me feel more stressed as time went on, but it also caused me to rush through the writing process, resulting in sloppy workmanship.
In the beginning of this semester I didn't like writing at all. I had a lot of difficulty when it came to writing. That was my only weakness in high school. But as I started taking basic writing, I have made a lot of progress. Before I had trouble to put detail in my essays, but now I am confident. My attitude toward writing went from negative to positive during this semester. Some aspects of the class have helped me strengthen my writing, I have builded some strengths for myself as a writer, and I know I made a lot of progress by reading my most successful essay, and by comparing my early essays to my more recent ones.
As a writer you make mistakes with your work, but you can also fix things, so the next time you won 't make those mistakes again. In the area of writing I feel like I can use some more improvement with my punctuation and where I place them. When an assignment does come up and after I write it each time I learn something new. Not only writing in this class can be easy at times it can also be challenging, which I love about these assignments. I enjoy writing because at times I do get challenged, but I enjoy that challenge that Mr.Perry gives me, because it helps me improve as a writer.Overall as a writer in the beginning I felt like I was not a great but now as the semester is starting to end I feel more confidant and I feel I can write
