I am interning at Pittsburgh Mercy’s Behavioral Health Service Coordination Unit (PMBH-SU). The unit serves 500-700 clients (consumers), and includes six teams. Each team includes a supervisor and 10-to-15 service coordinators (SC) and aids a specific population, such as adults, adolescents, and children. Additionally, all service coordinators’ clients have a mental health illness(s) diagnosis. PMBH-SCU provides outpatient services and individualized supportive services to clients of the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System. Employees in this unit typically obtained a social work or human services education or related professional experiences. The Unit’s goals are to coordinate services, offer support, and empower consumers to live healthy, fulfilling …show more content…
Moreover, from my interactions and conversations with supervisors and service coordinators, the measurement of client satisfaction is becoming increasingly popular because of its role in quality assurance continuous quality improvement systems. Thus, it is important to evaluate the effectiveness of SCs’ involvement since they are the primary professionals involved during the duration of clients’ hospitalization and until recovery from a mental health crisis reports as accomplished. This research proposal focuses on Pittsburgh Mercy’s service coordinators’ clients’ satisfaction with the services provided for adults with mental health …show more content…
The current research will be a cross-sectional study using data collected at a single point. This design will measure the attitudes and experiences of consumers. In practice, the study will include elements of descriptive and analytical. Using this method, a random sample of consumers will estimate the prevalence of satisfied consumers receiving services from January 1, 2015, to January 1, 2016 at PMBH-SCU. Additionally, cross-sectional approach will allow the study to investigate the association between consumer satisfaction and the effectiveness service coordinators. This research will be implemented on February 20, 2016. Thus, participating consumers’ length of services must fill between a year, and (or) approaching termination. I work at the veterans’ affair hospitals in Houston and in November 2011, Veteran Health Administration (VHA) committed to developing an outpatient mental health staffing model which comprised an interdisciplinary care team to ensure adequate general outpatient mental health care .

Becoming a supervisor will allow me a behinds-the-scenes look at the paperwork and practices used to determine an individual’s assistance plan. Learning the role of a supervisor will add to the knowledge needed to build my own organization. It will also provide me the opportunity to learn more about the processes and assessments of interviewing clients and families before admitting them. I will also be able to analyze the data used during therapy sessions to create assistances plans that are tailored to the needs of the individuals. These plans are also progress reports that are submitted to the state to help researchers gage what techniques are working and how they can be
These teams include professionals from different realms of the health field and the use of their combined knowledge to best assist patients and/or clients in need. This type of teamwork and form of practice has a profound impact on my career goals because I am interested in working within the hospital setting. As a practitioner, I will use the skills acquired from my studies/experience and apply them to the health field/aspect of social work practice. As a Graduate Research Assistant, I have had the opportunity to work within the hospital/healthcare setting and the experience I gained from this opportunity has solidified my goal to work not only in this profession, but with children and families in need. To continue practicing social work within the health field, I am currently interning at the McGuire VA Medical Center in the Mental Health Primary Care unit, working with Veterans and their families through crisis and allocating services to better serve the patients and their families. With this placement, I plan to make myself available for any learning opportunities that will be vital to my role within the health field and continue to explore the vast possibilities offered by this complex, yet rewarding profession known as Social
In my current field placement I work with adults who are seeking help with mental illness and substance use. The program is a Partial Hospital Program (PHP), however, there is housing available to those who are homeless. The program is a two to three week program and while the patients are there, the case managers provide group therapy, help with scheduling aftercare and find housing for those who need it. A large percentage of the patients have untreated mental illness and have been self medicating with substances.
As a refresher, I am interning at Mercy Behavioral Health Service Coordination Unit (MBH-SCU). Overall, I am enjoying the roles and activities in MBH-SUC and I believe that the experience is a very valuable learning practice. This reaction paper discusses a concept as it relates to my field practicum/field experience: Diversity and inclusion in healthcare organizations.
Today was my first day at the Port Human Services Facility Base Crisis (FBC) Unit in Greenville N.C. Today I was shadowing Trudy Sheppard, who is a master’s level social worker who is employed by Port Human Services (FBC) Unit. Trudy and I discussed patient rights, patient obligations, and FBC Unit’s policy and procedures. We also met with the unit’s supervisor and discussed what I will be doing while on the FBC Unit. I was informed that I would be involved in the patient admittance process. I was informed that I would also be conducting patient interviews, assessments, assisting with patient treatment plans, aftercare plans, and substance abuse counseling as well. Also, I will be transporting clients with the company vehicle as well as the
The primary purpose of the survey was to ascertain how customers perceived National’s quality of service
The Puerto Rican Family Institute clinic in Brooklyn is currently undergoing a new organizational structure due to a high turnover of recent employees. The previous director for the clinic had been in the same position for 25 years, and once she left, the structure started to decline. The new director, James Chavez, has been overseeing the clinic for a year now, and the clinic has been evolving ever since. Due to such a drastic change in roles, the clinic has been using a lateral organizational structure to help the director and keep the flow going. Since the clinic in Brooklyn is smaller, there is a lot of cohesiveness that happens within various departments. The director always has the final say, but many times, the staff will work together to help one another. I have received a lot of guidance due to the lateral structure, and I am thankful for that. The clinic has many full-time staff clinicians and the majority have a background in social work. Since the director comes from a social work background also, there is a strong social work presence. The social worker’s role is to provide one-on-one psychotherapy, give a pre-diagnostic impression, and complete treatment plans. They also assess for strengths, goals, and triggers to provide clients with a strong therapeutic experience.
The practice setting I am currently interning at is the Community Mental Health for Ingham, Clinton, and Eaton counties (CEICMH), specifically within the Families Forward department. This department within the CEICMH works closely with children who are experiencing serious emotional disturbances and behavioral concerns, as well as offering needed support to their family. The services provided include inpatient and outpatient therapy, emergency services and urgent care, early intervention services, and wraparound services. My role within Families Forward is as an intern in the Wraparound program. Wraparound facilitators provide service to families by creating a plan to help the family navigate through the child’s treatment process to assure

The topics that were addressed during this seminar included: Strategies Resolving Conflicts in the Person-Centers Planning Process, Using Supports Brokerage Service, Home Help Update, and MDHHS Updates. Ellen Sugrue Hyman spoke on the conflicts of interest relating to the HCBS Rule and Person Centered Planning (PCP) process. Although the Patient Centered Medical Homes health care model has been setup with a mission of organizing a critical care for patients and building better relationships that physicians could teach gain additional knowledge on what a patient is going through with their conditions. “David Keepnews (2013) reports Satisfaction has traditionally been measured with a variety of instruments and methods, with little agreement or consistency regarding how to interpret findings, how to utilize them, or even what is being measured. Despite this, providers of health and health-related services have devoted considerable resources to collecting and analyzing satisfaction data. Satisfaction scores have been used to identify quality problems and target interventions
Customer satisfaction and service quality are the two important components that direct anyone’s attention in every concept related to marketing, services, etc. (Spreng and Mackoy, 2006). In today’s competitive era, the success lies in
