The article taking a stand is about the amazing people that took a stand like the American colonists took a stand against King George III. And George Washington took a stand for our country. Although he was known for leading an army or being president he took a stand against a disease by vaccinating his soldiers even when the vaccine wasn’t ready yet. I learn that anyone can take a stand women or man, the only problem is when no takes a stand for something they believe
People have stood up for their beliefs all throughout history, and have faced many consequences for doing so. One example of a man standing up for his beliefs is in 1892 a man by the name of Homer Plessy was taken to court for challenging the Separate Car Act in Louisiana (Konkoly, “Plessy v. Ferguson”). The
Paragraph: On July 19, 1849, 300 people arrived for the Seneca Falls Convention. Similarly to the Declaration of Independence, they made the Declaration of Sentiments, which listed the acts of tyranny of men over women. Before this convention, women were not allowed to speak in most meetings. This angered many women, inspiring them to fight for women rights. One example of this was during the World Anti-Slavery Convention in London in 1840. Men did not even want them to watch, so they tried to hide them behind curtains. Women couldn’t get jobs, even if they were the best in the class. Many people believed that they had to protest for reform about slaves and women rights.
For years’ women fought to gain the rights that they have today. In The Norton Reader Shorter 14th Edition there are two very powerful speeches by two completely different women who were fighting for the same cause. "The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and "Ain 't I A Woman?" 1863 By Sojourner Truth both argue for women 's right to vote. While both women have similar arguments, their methods are different. Stanton 's argument speaks on the legality of things, how unconstitutional it is and in some ways points to the wrong doers. On the other hand, Truth makes her argument personal, she involves her own personal experiences and questions the oppositions beliefs. Although both argument methods differ, the cause for the argument remains the same. The two authors ' techniques used to argue their points leaves the reader feeling both inspired and motivated to get involved with their cause.
I believe that most of the conflicts that occur in small groups of society around the world, are avoided by the president because people fail to catch attention. If it wasn't for the women to stand up for equal rights we as women would not have been able to vote. The importance here is to be recognized and have the situation be spreader out and risk what we got until our word is
Throughout history we have heard of people standing up and fighting for what they believe is morally right. We have read about many of them in our textbooks and seen them on t.v. One specific person would be Cesar Chavez a human rights activist. Who fought to have the minimum wage raised for farmers working in the fields picking fruit.
Henry David Thoreau once said, “If the machine of the government is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law.” If Susan B. Anthony did not break the law back in 1872 would women have the same rights as men today? Would women be able to vote if Susan B. Anthony did not take a stand when she did? It is very important for people to take a stand on issues of justice in society because people have the right to do so, laws that are created are not always fair, and standing up for what a person believes can change the system for the better. Take a stand and show the government that everyone should be treated equally regardless of their race or gender.
Women and all people should be treated equally based on their actions. These women have been doing their part too, like “feeding her children properly.” (Doc. C) These women are hard-working and do their part, but are not given nearly enough credit. They need to do other things like keep her basement dr and make her stairway fireproof, but she cannot do this without her rights.
In society it been repeated that a woman can’t do things men can, but in history they have proven them wrong. In the book A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, Beneatha Younger can be compared to Hillary Clinton because they both want to stand up for their women’s rights, because over the years it is proven genders are not equal. In this passage hillary clinton and beneatha younger take a stand. Hillary Clinton is pragmatic. She been senate for eight years and secretary of state for four years for president Obama .
Elizabeth Stanton delivered one of the most historical speeches in U.S history in 1848. Her speech, “Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions” was a fight for women’s rights. Elizabeth Stanton was a mother, highly accomplished and well educated. She began to relish the fact that women had a lack of advancement opportunities, and were especially constricted compared to men. She gave her speech at the Seneca Falls convention, and caught the attention of many with her compelling speech tactics. Stanton wrote her speech structured after our nations “Declaration of Independence”. She also persuaded others to see the truth behind her arguments by claims of natural rights. Finally Stanton uses a pathos strategy
There is a debate on whether taking a stand or winning counts more. In contrary, some argue that winning is more important due to the fact that they have won something however, even though you may not win its best to show that you took a stand for what you believe in. For example, in a sporting event, the essential thing is not winning but to take a part and know that you gave it your all. In the end you'll be able to conclude that a person takes a stand through their courage, loyalty, and selflessness.
The signing of the Declaration of Sentiments caused uproar among people (“Declarations of Independence”). The women at Seneca Falls were going against the “cult of true womanhood” but that didn’t stop them from persevering and moving forward.
These women and men stood up for what they knew was right, even if it meant going against everything they have ever known. Even in today’s day in age, some may argue that women should not have the rights they currently hold. They claim that men are superior and women should “cook and do laundry for their husband”. These views are absurd and a thing of the past. All of us humans sweat the same sweat, bleed the same blood, and shed the same tears. Gender is merely a difference of chromosomes, and should no longer justify someone's role in
America hasn’t always been the one to speak its mind, but it has learned from that time that it’s better to start a fight than to be quiet and not do anything for the situation. Elie Wiesel talks about the importance of speaking up and being indifferent. He was a victim of the anarchy in Germany as a child. American soldiers saved his life and now he is around to tell his story and thoughts on that time. He makes you feel a part of it. He makes you feel passionate about the situation, and even gives you a very good perspective on where he is coming from. He recited a very well written speech about the U.S. history, he really sucks you in with his speaker credibility, and makes you feeling his passion and belief on being indifferent, and even has very well thought out supporting ideas.
Other Democratic candidates like Hillary Clinton and Martin O’Malley want to limit the amount of fracking in the US but not outright ban it. I feel that this connects to the quote because Bernie Sanders stood alone in his efforts to completely remove fracking. Another good example of when someone stood alone was Rosa Parks refusal to give up her seat on a bus because a white man wanted it. Up to this date, nobody had ever been this direct to just say no to racism and make a stand. Although before this incident, she was a secretary of the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP since 1943. The lesson applies to this situation because people like Bernie Sanders and. Rosa Park at one time was standing alone just as Drummond was, fighting for the teacher who had taught evolution. Another good example would be when Drummond and Kate's stood alone to defend the teacher who had taught evolution. Drummond didn't defend the teacher just because he was a lawyer, but because he truly believed in what he was saying and that's why he eventually got the majority on his side. The lesson applies to the situation because Kates and Drummond stood alone, but eventually prospered and
