Jacob
Esau is the elder twin brother of Jacob and were the sons of Isaac and Rebekah. They were also the grandsons of Abraham and Sarah. The book of Genesis, “identifies Isaac as God’s chosen son of the promise as well as Isaac’s youngest son Jacob.” (Towns, 1996) The theme of dishonesty happens repeatedly through the course of Jacob’s life. Jacob deceives his father Isaac and took the blessing from under his Brother Esau’s nose. Jacob departed from his home to a town named Haran, which was his mother’s ancestral home. Jacob then married Leah and Rachael, which produce twelve children. God came to Jacob in a dream and revealed the angelic stairs, which was perceive as gate of heaven, in the eyes of Jacob. From that point on Jacob vowed

The two them had didn’t have money nor food so Ruth gathered food in the field of Boaz, who is Naomi’s relative. Boaz allows Ruth to gather food and also leaves extra grain for her purposely out of compassion. Naomi inspires Ruth to pursue marriage with Boaz as a kinsman redeemer. Ruth obeys Naomi and Boaz and Ruth are married. Ruth has a baby named Obed, who is the grandfather of the great King David, in the ancestry of Christ our Messiah.
Capernaum
Capernaum was constructed along the edge of the Sea of Galilee, it housed up to 1,500 residents. Its location is 2 1/2 miles from the point where the Jordan River enters the Sea of Galilee and about 10 miles from present-day Tiberias. The crest of a ridge of hills, just to the west of the ancient town, is the mountain of Capernaum referred to the Byzantine pilgrim Egeria as Eremos. The ruins are currently owned by two churches and or synagogues. The New Testament is where Capernaum is introduced in Matthew. Matthew refers to Capernaum as Jesus' own city. Jesus made Capernaum his home throughout the years of his ministry, "Leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum" (Matt 4:13). Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by Jesus for its lack of faith. Jesus was challenged by a demon while teaching in Capernaum. In Capernaum, Jesus healed the servant of the centurion. In this synagogue, Jesus gave sermon on the bread of life. From this town he chose his first four
I examined Jeremiah 13:1-11in these three translations: New International Version (NIV), English Standard Version (ESV), and The Message (MSG); most of the perspectives will be coming from the NIV. The NIV calls this narrative ‘A Linen Belt’, the ESV called it ‘The Ruined Loincloth’, and the MSG called it ‘People Who Do Only What They Want to Do’. The story starts out with God telling Jeremiah to buy a linen belt and not to let it touch water. Jeremiah bought the linen belt and tied it around his waist just as God told him to do. Then God said to him that he should take the belt to Perath (possibly the Euphrates) and hide it in a crevice amongst the rocks. Jeremiah obeyed God, went to Perath and hid the linen belt in a crevice between the rocks. Many days later God told him that he should go get the belt that he hid amongst the rocks and Jeremiah listened to God so he went back to Perath to retrieve the linen belt. Jeremiah retrieved the belt, but now has a belt that is ruined and useless. Then God said, “In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. These wicked people, who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the stubbornness of their hearts and go after other gods to serve and worship them, will be like this belt—completely useless! For as a belt is bound around the waist, so I bound all the people of Israel and all the people of Judah to me, to be my people for my renown and praise and honor. But they
In the Beginning: At the beginning of the universe. God created heaven and earth in six days and rested on the seventh. During those six days God spoke to the darkness and created the world, brought forth light, created the sky, land and animals and plants to inhabit them. However, even during this creation he was contemplating the creation of a being made in his own image.
Ephesus-Ephesus was a port city and the commercial and religious capital in Asia minor or modern day Turkey. It was actually the leading sea port in the empire of Rome with it’s hand dug man made harbor. It had a large road leading away to the mountain cites making it accessable by both land and sea. It’s population exceeded 250,000 only Roam and
Biblical wisdom emphasis is another approach in which one can investigate to see what reigns to be important. Like the wisdom approach, biblical share in the importance of seeking wise counsel. Horton (2009) states that in the biblical approach several areas are important in determining spiritual discernment. These areas consist of decision being determined by the guidelines in the Bible, common sense, individual gifts, God has a plan but do not reveal it, sovereignty of God, and free to make choices (Horton, 2009). One may object to the fact that God would want us to do something but do not give us the tools or clues to do it. God being sovereign is an area that many can agree on. Gill, (2006) states that it is through the sovereignty of God which is presented through the Holy Spirit that allows for us to understand God’s will for our life. Gill (2006) also implement the wheel of life for the coaching process whereas God is at the center. I highly believe that nothing happens without God ordaining it to happen. God is in control of all things. Roman 8:28 states that God works all things together for those who love him and who are called according to his purpose (NIV). Therefore God is in control and guiding us towards his plan or purpose for our lives.
This church was in the town of Philippi that was situated along the great northern road that ran from the Adriatic Sea coast to the town of Byzantium (later renamed Constantinople and todays Istanbul). The town’s population was predominantly Greek but with few, Jewish groups Acts 16:13. Philippi was a Roman colony that acted as a military outpost and therefore enjoyed several privileges.
Capernaum the heart of Jesus’ ministry. He set up base where he called most of his apostles and often returned there to perform miracles and heal. It was also a major commercial and population center with large industry in fishing and agriculture. By being located on the Northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee the city was a central figure on an important international trade route. Therefore it made sense that a military presence would be located there, more than likely help guard the customs that passed through. However, in Capernaum there was no actual military presence in the city until 44 B.C.E; well after the time of Jesus’ death. The centurion in Luke’s Gospel was more than likely part of Herod Antipas’ royal army and was set up in one of the largest cities that Antipas controlled. The client kings, as Herod was, appointed by the Roman government were required to keep
In chapter three and four, Naomi advises Ruth to consider marrying Boaz. She commands Ruth to wash herself, anoint herself and wear her best clothing before meeting with Boaz to discuss her first rights with marriage. Ruth obeys Naomi, and seeks out to find Boaz. After meeting Boaz at the end of the heap of grain, Ruth mentions her first rights to him. Boaz consents to this, but first must make sure that no other women have first rights. Boaz meets with ten elders of Bethlehem to discuss first rights and the redeeming ofRuth. After the discussion, Boaz redeems and marries Ruth. Together, they conceive a son and name him Obed, who is now part of the lineage of Jesus Christ.
There are of course debates as to where the true Mount Sinai is located some of the arguments include; One being far northeast of Jebel Musa near the Gulf of Aqabam, with another being far north of Jebel Musa because of the battle of the Amalekites. Galatians 4:25 also says, “Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children”. It is also debated
In the third week of our lesson knowing that men and women were created in the image of God was enjoyable. Man has learned to bring honor to one another, and as husband and wife we are to honor one and other in the things of God, and in how we raise our children as Christian families. I see the way children grow when their parents aren’t in one accord, being a team means understanding one another’s needs and respecting each other. In one of the presentations they talked on how every married couple should go through some form of marriage counseling that will help with their growth by having them understand what is to expect as they grow with one another and raise children.
While most Americans generally think positively of the Bible, not many have actually read much of it, according to a new survey released on [Tuesday].
Jacob is commanded by G-d to return to the land of his ancestors, and to do so, he must travel through the land of his brother, Esau. Jacob, thinking his brother wants to hurt him, sends spies to assess his army, gifts to soften his spirt, and separates his his family to protect them before meeting face to face with Esau. It turns out that Jacob’s fears were with unwarranted, or a fiction as my dad likes to say, because when Esau saw Jacob, he
“‘The LORD bless him!’ Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. ‘He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.’ She added, ‘That man (Boaz) is our close relative; he is one of our kinsman-redeemers’” (Ruth 2:20). This scripture exposes Boaz as a candidate to be the kinsman redeemer of Ruth and her deceased husband’s family. From the land of Moab, gleaning in the fields of Boaz and to the threshing floor the story finds its purpose in Boaz, the kinsman redeemer. While there are so many influential figures in the Bible, I argue that Boaz is of great importance because of he becomes the kinsman redeemer, he acts in redemption, and the lineage of Ruth and her deceased husband is carried on all while foreshadowing Christ and things to come.
Ruth demonstrates faithfulness to Naomi and faithfulness to the promise that she had made her. God in his faithfulness blessed Ruth’s faithfulness by giving her and Naomi a redeemer in Boaz. Ruth then bore Obed who was great great grandfather of David who was the ancestor of the Messiah. This
The Book of Ruth, although one of the smallest books in the Old Testament, has many values displayed in its mere four chapters. Throughout the book, readers are shown the struggle of Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi, as they try to survive in a patriarchal world. In chapter one Ruth and Naomi’s initial endeavor is revealed. Both Naomi and Ruth’s husbands die and they are left abandoned, but together, after Ruth refuses to leave Naomi. By chapter two Naomi and Ruth have made it to Bethlehem and Ruth encounters Boaz for the first time while gleaning in his fields. Chapter three is when Ruth and Boaz start to form a romantic relationship; after Naomi tells Ruth to go to the threshing floor and lay at Boaz’ feet. Ruth obeys and when Boaz is
He and his twin Esau were fighting in Rebecca’s womb, causing her discomfort, so she asked God why and God answered that the twins would continue to fight for the rest of their lives and the older would serve the younger.
