Big Bang Theory It's inevitable that with over 6 billion people here on Earth, there will be different views upon how our universe was created. Views are mainly fueled by faith or science but the modern view of today's era is the Big Bang Theory. The theory states that the universe started at one single spot, and has been expanding ever since (Big Bang Theory, N.P.). Of course it's crazy, and highly difficult, for many of us to imagine something so large starting from one tiny spot; so indeed there are faults in the theory. There are many contributing scientists to pieces of the big bang theory but one in particular is vastly important, Georges Lemaître, the creator of the theory. He first suggested the big bang theory in the 1920s when he theorized that the universe began from a single primordial atom. From that point many scientists and astrologers leant their hands out to the theory including Edwin Hubble who observed that galaxies are speeding away from us in all directions and by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson who co discovered cosmic microwave radiation (Origins, N.P.). Lemaître's idea of the single atom is the spec earlier mentioned. When Edwin Hubble comes along and states this bizarre notion it brings many questions to mind but he backs his statements up well by using the Doppler Effect. Hubble didn't create the idea of the Doppler Effect but he did put it to the greatest use possible. The idea of the Doppler Effect is usually applied to sound. Sound consists of waves ranging from a high to a low frequency. As an object approaches us the frequency of these waves become higher, and then lower as it passes. The same idea can be applied to light waves. We can see this using a spectrum which has a different color for different frequencies. If the color being read from the spectrum is leaning toward the red side, then the frequency is low meaning the object is moving away from us. After conducting an hour-long observation and data collection of The Big Bang Theory, I found three specific patterns. These were patterns of traditional gender roles, heterosexual privilege, and gender performance. The first pattern is the traditional breadwinner and housewife roles that are portrayed throughout the episodes. In the show women are seen occupying the household while the men occupy the workplace. These traditional roles reinforce gendered behaviors and interactions amongst the male and female character that reflect modern day society.
The currently accepted model of the Big Bang is "that the the universe is not static but is expanding and that the expansion began in an incredibly hot, dense Big Bang approximately 13.72 billion years ago" (Krause, 2012, p. 25). This hot, dense bit of matter was only a few millimeters across and contained all of the matter and energy that makes up our universe and as it expanded, it cooled and over the billions of years of existence the universe settled into its current state.

The question of how and when the universe was created has always been a topic of debate. Every culture has diverse beliefs which also comes with different explanations or justifications on how the world came to be. The Iroquois creation story for example is believed to be originated in the late 18th to early 19th century and ironically has similar details with the Judeo-Christian story which originated in the 12th century on the other side of the world.

To help verify this was Edward Hubble who found there is a directly proportional “relation between Redshift and Distance”(pg.22). Meaning galaxy’s light spectrum increases in wavelength from the light we receive from a galaxy and the speed with which it moves away from earth. He used that to calculate the distance of the galaxy from Earth, and then approximated the age for the universe. “There is... a way to confirm that the galaxies are really moving apart, as indicated by the red shifts”(page32). This discovery was a great importance to the Standard Model. Once it was clear that the universe was expanding, Hubble proceeded to calculate the speed the galaxies that are moving away from us. A constant now called “Hubble’s constant”, which determines that galaxies increase in constant proportion to their distance. The next thing important to the Standard Model was the Theory of General Relativity published by Albert Einstein. His model predicted an expanding universe; “in order to achieve a model that fit…Einstein was forced to mutilate his equation by introducing a term called cosmological constant”(page 35). Which made the formula consistent with a static Universe. The next important thing about the Standard Model was when the radiation expanded, dropped frequency and gained wavelength. There was “diffuse background of radio static left over from near the beginning of the universe”(page46). “Arno A. Penzias and Robert W. The Big Bang Theory is starting its eleventh season, which is going the premier on the twenty-fifth of September. Which in time CBS is going to start another two seasons in March 2017 and the other season in 2018 through 2019. The show stars Jim Parson, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuocu, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Raunch. It was also created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady both who served executive producers. The Big Bang theory signifies us that comedy can be the best way to make us laugh or hurt.
Astronomers believed the Universe was created about 14 billion years ago. During that time, the entire Universe was inside a bubble that was thousands of times smaller than a pinhead, and it was insanely hot and dense. Out of nowhere this little bubble started expanding. This expansion created what we know as the Universe. In such little time the Universe went from the size of an atom to the ginormous galaxy we have that is continuously growing.
There has been a lot of research done on the influence media can have on society, in particular the degrading images of women that are often seen in media. Since the second wave of the women’s rights movements these images were the object of scrutiny and an easy example of how women were viewed. In modern society where women have made many strides towards equality why are there still instances in popular media were women are negatively depicted? Have women come as far as they think? The popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory negatively depicts the female characters by reverting to a binary view of gender, in which the female characters are lacking, they can be beautiful or smart however they cannot be both.
