I have served on the Profit in Education committee, and have worked with many staff members and volunteers which has allowed me to become very knowledgeable about the mission and importance of the United Way. I believe my experience working for a United Way Partner agency has given me the knowledge needed to be able to work with community leaders to tell the story of United Way and increase their revenue goals of their annual

I am qualified because I am committed and have worked very hard to make sure I continue doing my job properly meanwhile still doing my job as an ASB member in anything that we may be working on at the moment. I always update my Community Service bulletin board in the Higher Ed. Center as often as I can and when the dates pass. There is always community service opportunities that I have looked for myself
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York is a non-profit organization who has a main mission to help children and adolescents achieve their potential dreams through professional support, person-to-person relationship with mentors. The mentors try to make it their goal to make a measurable impact on children and adolescents. It is one of the largest organizations that mentor children and adolescents from all communities. Big brother Big Sister mentoring programs have several chapters such as community-based mentoring, work place mentoring, school-based mentoring, and specialized mentoring. The most effective and influential of the mentoring programs is the community-based mentoring program. This is because it covers a wider population of the community, which involves children and adolescents (Grossman and Tierney).
I am a recent graduate in Political Economy at UC Berkeley. I have built my leadership and teamwork skills throughout my work and academic experience. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a reputable preventative program for youth who are at risk of becoming juvenile delinquents. Empirical evidence has shown that the BBBS is a valid prevention program where we can find criminology theories being enacted. Participants are ascertained as youth who are more likely to become juvenile delinquents’ due to their lifestyle, personality and social interactions. This program of mentoring gives an at-risk youth the opportunity to bond with a positive adult mentor who will listen, offer help and be a good example to follow all within a community setting. I believe in this program not just because of the evidence showing it works but in the experiences of my peers when it was first applied to our community. I saw the positive influence in some of the participants but as far as I am concerned, if we can help 1 or 2 it is a good program and I if I remember correctly there was only a few that went on to make criminal choices while most increased their peer support group.
Assuming this is not expected to be formal, and an analysis of my character, I will start from the beginning to explain why I know I would be a great asset to your organization. I was raised in Columbus, Ohio by genuinely giving and caring people. My mother especially taught me a lot about caring for others. Though, considered an unconventional technique for learning this lesson, she required one sacrifice of me every other birthday. Instead of having presents, parties, and cake I would from the age of seven have to decide on a way to give back to others. This was a non-negotiable expectation. For example, in the first grade I organized a collection for the homeless. I made fliers and passed them out throughout my neighborhood and school. In seventh grade I gathered a group of volunteers to travel to the Ohio River when it
I am confident that I am a good candidate for the service coordinator position because I possess all of the skills and qualities that Jevs is looking for in an employee. My experience tells me that I am suitable for the work in my applied experience. I have acquired skills, such as critical thinking, group communication, understanding of personal behavior, organization skills, and accepting criticism. Moreover, I take orders well and can work in a stressful environment. I was efficient in what I put in at the homeless shelter and left with an experience of providing a public service within the community. In addition, I learned that I have quality traits, such as compassion, patience, and interpersonal skills to work around others. I was confident enough to approach the families at the shelter and made friends. I was there to listen without judgment, and they appreciated that I took the time to hear what they had to say. For example, I heard the different reasons why these individuals ended up at the homeless shelter and how they feel stuck in their situation. I heard testimonies from families who have undergone many tragedies and were fortunate to have the support that the BHC provides. Lastly, the area that I could improve on is conflict prevention among adults. I experienced watching some fights at the shelter, and I do not have the skills to stop it without getting physically involved. Furthermore, my site supervisor believed that I showed exemplary abilities with the families.
