Dear Mr Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull,
I am writing to attempt to persuade you to allocate sufficient funding for the preservation of plant and animal species. These various species of flora and fauna enrich the biodiversity of our nation. Biodiversity can provide inspiration, cultural value, and education and has various benefits for other species, including humans.
To begin, biodiversity is vital in Australia as various plant and animal species depend on each other for survival. This prey and predator cycle helps to maintain the balance of the ecosystem. If multiple sources were suddenly wiped out, there would be serious repercussions. Food webs would be severely affected and various ecosystems would be thrown out of balance.

A biome is a large area or habitat that occupies the earth. Animals, plants along with flora and fauna occupy biome habitats. They cleverly adapt to their environment and geographical location. The area that I have chosen to research are the Flinders Ranges. The Flinders Rangers are in South Australia, covering 37,000 square kilometres. The biome expands from Crystal Brook in the south to Mount Hopeless in the north. There are several main general features associated with this semi-arid biome. It has landforms that are above sea level. The biome has high mountain ranges with summits reaching 900 metres. The area has steep gorges, cliffs, ridges and plateaus. The biome edges have grasslands and foothills which contain creeks, gorges, valleys,
Ecosystem is an important part of the environment and to protect the Australian native ecosystem many management plans are made to preserve it. Where the disruption occurred in the environment by human activities is not only the factor of worry, but also the exotic plants which are trying to take over the native species are a matter of concern too. The steps taken by humans to get rid of their own waste from the environment as well as the weeds, come under management plans. On the excursion to Buckley’s Hole, Godwin Beach, Red Beach and Melaleuca Wetland, it was observed that these areas come under the Buckley’s Hole Management Plan. Where the abiotic and biotic factors interact with each other and help in sustainability of better environment.
Since the beginning of time our Earth has experienced many changes, these changes affected Australian biota whether it be in a positive or negative way. The study of Australian fossils contributes to the development of understanding the evolution of species in Australia in many different ways, such as seeing changes in physical appearance of species, and possible reasons why the species evolved into what they did, when and why a certain species may have become extinct and evidence/proof of theories such as natural selection. Each of these goes hand in hand and helps us find out what our Earth would have been like millions of years ago.
Since 1975 Grizzly Bears have been on the Endangered Species List. Besides the Endangered Species List, another solution was to relocate the bears to Yellowstone National Park. Yet, another solution that is taking place, is to increase funding to save the habitats of the bears. If the Grizzly Bear went extinct, the biomes and ecosystems would dwindle away and also be lost. If the Grizzly Bear went extinct the spreading of seeds for the plants it feeds on will cease, causing very little plants to grow. This would then affect the wildlife populations because there would be little to no vegetation for the animals to thrive on. Without the Bear the herd populations would increase and die off because of the scarce food around. The cause of the Bear’s death is the over hunting of the animal. Humanity can fix this by putting in additional laws that restrict and prohibit the hunting of these Bears, and not rely heavily on the Endangered Species List law. The solution that I offer is an alternative use of funding. Instead of putting money to technology and its opportunities, we turn that money and use it to help the preservation of these Bears. We could also, use the money to create more land for the animals to live on and thrive on. Humanity can counteract these events by supporting the laws in place and giving their full attention to this pressing matter. For what humanity takes away we must give back in order to continue a way of life: life where anything can
In this essay I will consider the roles of city and country in three short stories; Water Them Geraniums by Henry Lawson, Short-Shift Saturday by Gavin Casey, and Trees Can Speak by Alan Marshall. I will argue through contributing to character development, they provide insight into the construction of contempory Australian identity. In Water Them Geraniums the outback is shown to be an emasculating force, particularly for women, that strips away their humanity until they function in a mechanical way to survive off the land. In Short-Shift Saturday the narrator is a product of an inherited colonial culture and imagines that it is the alien landscape and culture in which he lives that is the agent of his suffering. In reality, the
a) Discuss current research into the evolutionary relationships between extinct species, including megafauna and extant Australian species.
Extinction: Most species become extinct because they can’t cope with the environmental change, and also because of introduced species that turned into competitors for
Biodiversity creates an interconnected system where each part builds off of one another to create a functional ecosystem. For example, a small insect such as a bee is critical for survival of many other species because it pollinates so many plants. Currently, the population of bees is dramatically decreasing due to anthropogenic actions such as using harmful pesticides. If the population of bees go extinct, so many species would follow because they would not get pollinated. This is problematic because humans do not have the time or the funds to replicate the vital work of the bee.
With help from the Wildlife Preservation the design aspects of my engineering design team will be able to implement a design that shows how the species will be protected and precautionary manners that will be taken if the plan fails. Public representation is a must-have for this project because you don’t want to seem as angry people who are mainly trying to use the government money for the wrong reason. This is not what I support. I want to be able to research these flowers and understand how they evolve and how there adaptions help them maintain their environment. Many citizens don’t know about the endangered species or think that only animals have the ability to be endangered. I want to change that viewpoint even if I have to jump over hurdles to get through it. My team and I are ready to make that decisions even if we have to jump over milestones to get our message
“Biological diversity is of fundamental importance to the functioning of all natural and human-engineered ecosystems, and by extension to the ecosystem services that nature provides free of charge to human society ”(Lloyd, 2014). Biodiversity is very important to both plants, animals and humans on Earth and if one species is destroyed it throw the balance off .
How has the introduction of the European honey bee by humans to Australia’s various wide ecosystems impacted Australia’s biodiversity?
Q2: How effective is the current urbanisation of Canberra in maintaining biodiversity and sustainable living?
Loss of Biodiversity will affect the life cycle of several species which depend on each other for survival. This dependence determines the survival of species and the change of our environment. Exploiting the biodiverse species to extinction will result in desertification, rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, increased pollution, increased droughts, increase in loss of items that we derive from nature for our own survival such as honey, fruits, vegetables, medicines etc. The greed to exploit will result in our ultimate extinction If a sustainable solution isn’t provided to prevent loss of biodiversity. If we continue the path we are on without taking steps to balance the equation the planet will
I am appealing to you as a conservationist. I believe that the natural resources of the forest can be of great help to us. As we experience this oil and gas crisis in the US, we are forced to import oil from foreign countries. Thus causing the cost of
Franck and Brownstone define biological diversity as 'the variety and variability of living organisms and the biological communities in which they live' (36). Decades of progress in both the scientific and political arenas have advanced environmental legislation to protect biodiversity at not only the ecosystem level, but for specific species and genetic material as well. Research has shown the importance of every organism and their role in the global ecosystem, and legislation has gradually matured to protect not only species which may become endangered, but the habitats they need to survive as well. Growing consciousness surrounding environmental issues has enabled these protections to be
