These are all thing that the sea parks do not want people to know. The parks make their workers lie to the visiting guests about all of this and more. In the film it shows a worker telling a family that the whales live longer in captivity than in the wild, when it has been a proven fact that they most certainly do not. Another thing the parks like to tell people is how dorsalfin collapse is a normal occurrence among wild orcas. They tell people how the orcas are with their families at all times even though the whales are just a mixture of whichever ones happen to be born or brought, and that is no family at all (Eisenberg, Rebecca). The biggest lies are the lies about whale trainers knowing their job and doing it well.
For starters, the trainers are not trained about whales whatsoever. In the documentary Blackfish, trainers all share how they came from places like New York or the country where they have never even been around the ocean much less a massive killer whale. Shortly after the trainers got the job and arrive they were told to jump on a whale and ride it around the pool, back when being in the water with them was acceptable. Then the trainers are taught to train with a punishment method where if the whale doesn't do what it is told then food is held back or all the whales get punished (Blackfish. Dir. If people know about the horrible treatment whales are receiving and have been put through, then there is a better chance for a change to be made. The wild whales cannot be put back into the ocean, for they will not know how to survive after being bucket fed and isolated without a pod its whole life, but putting an end to capturing and breeding whales is not an impossible task. People need to be made aware of the situation because that is only way to stop places like seaworld . Whales will remain in captivity if people keep funding the sea parks with the money to do
