One of the most important things about words may not be the actual content of what is being written, but rather the structure of what is being written. More specifically, the mechanics of our sentences often sway readers towards unexpected directions. Some simple, and rather obvious issues, are those concerning spelling and grammar. An incomplete understanding of spelling and grammar can result in conveying a sense of neglect towards the reader. In more extreme cases, faulty grammar can alter the entire meaning of the sentence. For example, the sentence “Bob treated the cat, who was a veterinarian,” has a radically different meaning in comparison to “Bob, who was a veterinarian, treated the cat,” since the modifying phrase in the first sentence
