This book is about a deaf woman by the name of Kitty. In this story the author explains how she and her family endured a lot of issues within their community because of their strong Cajun heritage. Kitty is enrolled in the Louisiana School for the Deaf and does excellent. She moves on to a university in Washington D.C and excels there, as well. Kitty later marries her college sweetheart named Lance. Lance is from a Jewish background and is also deaf. Both Kitty and Lance settle down and start raising a family. Over time Kitty realizes that she can no longer keep ignoring her tunnel vision getting worse. Eventually she goes to a doctor and finds out she has Usher Syndrome, which is a genetic deficiency that causes blindness. As she struggles
