Compare and Contrast Most people have the idea that the United States of America is a country that has been outstanding in every subject, but that is not the case anymore. There are other countries that are gradually building up and restoring themselves. Brazil is a country that has had many difficult situations to deal with, specifically with drug violence. Even though Brazil is struggling, they are trying their best to defeat current situations and they are gradually restoring order. In the near future, Brazil will be hosting the 2016 Olympics: many situations will occur because of this, so they are trying to prepare. All over the planet people have different views and etiquettes. Many countries are alike to one another but there are differences that others may disagree with. The United States and Brazil have country characteristics that are similar and different. Brazil and the United States are similar and different because of culture, the economy and education. Culture is what initially shapes the country’s people to act and react to situations a certain way, while another country may act differently. Brazil’s primary language is Portuguese and the most reoccurring religion is Roman Catholic. The United States official language is English and most citizens are Protestants. A regular value displayed in families is the normality to have more children to have a larger family (Brazil-Language, Culture, Customs, and Etiquettes). In the US most citizens have at the most
The economy of Brazil is in the top ten largest economies along with the United States. It is the biggest in Latin America. Actually it is the seventh largest in the world. Brazil has used its newly found economic mechanism to syndicate its outcome in South America and show more of a role in the Global Businesses. The Obama Administration’s National Security Strategy recognizes Brazil as a developing center of effect, and greets the management of the country’s joint and global issues. The United States and Brazil associations mostly have been good in the recent years. But Brazil has other strengthening relations with neighboring countries and expanding ties with nontraditional partners in the South that’s developing.
The first thing we’re going to discuss is the way people act in both countries. Brazil prefers collectivism, whereas the United States prefers individualism. This means that, in Brazil, they support group interaction and think it’s really important. The United States differs from this, because they are a lot more individualistic, and believe that people shouldn't worry about the group very much, but just themselves and family. By the way, we can notice that Brazilians are more casual, while Americans are more
When thinking of New York City, more often than not, the first things one visualizes is the beautiful skyline, the bright lights, and Times Square. But without a second glance, one might miss one of the important things about the city. New York is the most heavily Dominican populated city in the United States. It’s ironic that the first non-native American to migrate to and reside on what is today New York City, was from Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. Throughout history, Dominicans have migrated to the US in search of economic opportunity. This is the factor that influences nearly every immigrant group that migrates to the US in history. In the early 1900s, The United States and the Dominican Republic had a very close diplomatic relationship, to the point where the President considered annexation. At one point, the United States completely controlled the Sugar industry, one of the country’s most profitable markets.
The U.S. has a huge influence in the Brazilian culture. This is due to the fact that economical strings tie us, so we are attached whether we like it or not. We buy CDs from America, we listen to the same music, we have MTV, and we wear the same clothes. We also incorporated to our vocabulary a lot of English words such as "Shopping Center" or "Sale". This is a sign that the Brazilian culture has become "Americanized" to a certain extend.
Due to this, Brazil faced a serious problem with getting recognition of its independence from United States and other European powers. The jaundiced view of Brazil can be seen from Document C which states, “The United States and the main European powers took their time in recognizing Brazilian independence since they wanted to take advantage of the situation to serve their interests,” arises from the fact that the United States delayed the recognition. The reason for the delay was that they were suspicious of the real intentions of the Brazilian monarchic government, not due to their ulterior
In processes of Independence in South American and Brazil happened very differently. In the Spanish American process of revolution there were lots of movements for rebellion (Chasteen:93). Many of the movements were set in motion when the king of Spain, Carlos IV, and Prince Fernando, were captured by Neapolitan (Chasteen:92). The colonies questioned the leadership of the Spanish crown. In Mexico, two priests sparked different rebellions. Father Miguel Hidalgo gained support from indigenous and mestizo people with the phrase “Americans versus Europeans” (Chasteen:96). This turned into rebellion against the Peninsulars and, unintentionally, creole since it was difficult for the fighters to tell them apart (Chasteen:96). Father José María Morelos
In The South and America since World War II, James C. Cobb narrates the ever-growing South and southern culture beginning with the attack on Peal Harbor and ending in the present time. Cobb describes the drastic changes the South faced in recent history, ultimately to portray the South in its relationship to the nation as a whole. Cobb comes to the conclusion that one cannot understand America without looking towards the South, and one cannot understand the South without relating the culture to the bigger picture of America. It is important to note that James C. Cobb is a research professor of history at the University of Georgia and has written other books pertaining to the subject of southern history, therefore this book is written within
Poverty is where one person or a group of people don’t have enough money and recourses to meet needs that are considered acceptable in the general public. Although there has been effort to prevent poverty, it is still rampant around the world. 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day while 1.3 billion of those people live on less than $1.50 a day. Poverty also affects children. Every 4 seconds a child dies of poverty. 1 billion children live in poverty. Two examples of world powers with large populations but still have child poverty are the United States and Brazil. The poverty line in the United States for a family of four is $23,550. [Federal Poverty Level 2013-2014]. The poverty line
There had been a growing outcry from the public and leaders for something to be done to reduce the increasingly growing number of Japanese immigrants in the West Coast. Subsequent regulations placed on the Japanese in the United States made them aggravated. There was serious trouble brewing between the United States and Japan until the Japanese carried out attacks on Pearl Harbour in December 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor there was increased spread of propaganda from the press and local leaders against the people with Japanese roots. There were numerous calls to the Congress and President Roosevelt for removal of the Japanese from the Pacific Coast. On the 19th day of February 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order Number 9066 (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The Executive Order authorized the evacuation of the Issei and Missei. About 120000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, both citizens and non-citizens were evacuated from the West Coast in what Lt. General John DeWitt said was compelled by “military necessity” (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The most convincing and reliable evidence reveals that the removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor did not meet the “clear and present danger” test. I do not agree with the Supreme Court’s decision.
On September 9, 1850 California became the 31st state, how this came about is “Mexico and the United States singed a treaty which ended the Mexican war and yielded a large portion of South west including present day California.” Previously in January 1848 gold had been discovered on the American River near Sacramento this rushed California’s admittance to the union. Furthermore, “in 1849 California sought statehood and heated debate in the U.S. congress arising out of the slavery issue. California would enter the Union as a free, non-slavery state by the compromise of 1850.” It was easy for California to be a part of the United States but it took the elected officials a while to get the constitution together. However, “California state
When looking at the history between the United States and Latin America, you see many interactions between them, all that aided the relationship that they have today. Despite that the United States and Latin America are in the same part of the world, the beliefs in which they govern may differ. This difference has often been seen playing a major role in the disputes that have occurred in past. The United States and Latin America have faced many social, economical and governing barriers in forming a strong and positive relationship in the early twentieth century, this is due to the differences that the two had between cultures and the constant demand for power. However, the two countries have found ways to meet in the middle of their cultural differences, to form an equally fair relationship.
Imagine yourself as a businessperson on a trip to the island of Hispaniola to check on how production is faring. You land in Santo Domingo to transfer to a short commuter flight to Port-au-Prince. During the flight, you gaze outside your window to admire the breathtaking view of the Sierra de Baoruco, with its luscious forests. As the plane approaches the Haiti-Dominican Republic border, you notice that the land has been completely denuded of trees directly on the other side of the border, creating a clear demarcation between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
During the nineteenth century, Western Europe went through a marvelous era of industrialization and imperialism. This period of social, political, and territorial advancement caused a dramatic ripple-effect around the world, giving other countries such as Russia and Japan motivation to modernize. By 1914 Russia and Japan had managed to launch significant programs of industrialization and to make other changes designed to strengthen their political and social systems. These two nations defied the common pattern of growing Western domination during the nineteenth century. In the process, Japan pulled away from other Asian societies, while Russia ultimately enhanced its power in world affairs. Japan and Russia did have some common
