“Bullet in My Neck” Response Essay
It is not easy to get over the trauma of being shot, let alone to forgive the person who is responsible for the shooting. It also depends on the situation in which one is in, in that moment and how he/ she gets out of it. In the case of Gerald Stern, a poet on his way to a conference, he and his companion Rosalind Pace were cornered and shot at while stopped at a red light for no apparent reason. Although most of the shots were misfired, Stern took on to his neck. Injured, Stern and Pace managed to drive away from the scene and drove around, lost with no help, eventually finding himself at the entrance of a hospital where he and

Stern did not want to let the shooting slow him down or break him in anyway. He wanted to keep moving on and not let the fact that he got shot bring him down. It is really important to move on from trauma because if you stay traumatized it will do you no good. All it will do is hold you back and keep you in fear. Compared to Stern, Pace was very angry and that held her back from moving on whereas stern did not want the shooting defeating him so he wanted to move on and still go to that conference to feel like he has not been overpowered by his situation. Although full of grief, Stern was more positive about the shooting and less angry because he was grateful to still be alive. Stern confirms, “If anything, I felt lucky. The bullet didn’t kill me, the gun on her side misfired.” He was exceedingly miserable because he wondered as to how someone can do such a thing to another human being. He was heartbroken by all the malice in the world to drive someone to do such a thing. There were a lot of shots that were misfired that did not kill either one of them. If he wanted he could have thought of the whole situation in a negative way. For example, Pace was in shock and was traumatized and angry at the shooters. She was in pain and angry and screamed for two hours because she was taking everything in a negative way. If she had thought about the situation as Stern did, she would have been at peace with herself and those boys. Stern was looking at the bright side

The main theme in the text ”The Thing around your Neck” must be that outstanding culture clash a lot of hope full immigrants in America are exposed to. Just from the very beginning we experience that the main character Akunna from Nigeria has very high thoughts of going to America. Her family is also very convinced that it is going to be a huge thing for her, they are expecting her to send them presents and they tell her; “In a month, you will have a big car. Soon, a big house. But don’t buy a gun like those Americans” (p. 57 l. 3-4)
Research in school shootings have been administered in many categories, including sociology, psychology, and etc. past studies, and direct later studies in school shootings, offers a sociology stand point for understanding the differences of school shooting incidents, including rampage shootings, mass murders shootings, and examining the mass media dynamic of school shootings; as well as presenting a combination of causes said in the research, including those on the individual, community, and social levels. In the African American community, 83 percent of homicides are due to gun violence. In black communities gun violence is commonly misunderstood as gang affiliation, which is false. Studies show over 50 percent of gun crimes committed were not related to a felony, but were due to some disagreement. The gun epidemic in predominantly black communities aren’t just disagreements, but race wars, police brutality, gang related, and even no reason at all.
Why is gun violence such a major issue in american and in what way could we help to stop it. It is important to consider that 12,000 people lose their lives in the U.S. each year due to gun homicides. Another thing is there has been 286 mass shootings in 2017 alone. Some more things to be put to thought is the school shootings and better ways to prevent them. Another key thing to remember is gun control and how it can be fixed.

It’s Saturday, October 1, 1932 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. It’s a bright and sunny day. It’s Game 3 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. And the grandstands are jam-packed with nearly 50,000 fans.
Forgiveness is to stop feeling angry, to stop blaming someone for the way they made a person feel, and stop feeling victims of whatever wickedness was directed towards them. Is forgiveness necessary? Can everyone be forgiven despite the circumstances? If forgiveness depends on the situation, then is it necessary at all? Does forgiveness allow someone to continue their life in peace? Is forgiving someone who causes physical pain to someone, as a pose to forgiving someone who murdered a member of the family the same? If someone can forgive one of these acts so easily can the other be forgiven just as easy? Forgiveness allows for someone to come to terms with what they have experienced. In the case of murder forgiveness is necessary because

a. In the story, Gordimer connects the two races as victims of the injustices of apartheid. The protagonist, Marais Van der Vyver’s shows interest in the “black boy,” Lucas a victim of freak accident, negligence, and ultimately apartheid. In the story Gordimer’s shows how apartheid has become more than legislation; it has become a mentality that segregates and prejudges. More than just more than just the rear window of that truck separated Lucas and Van der Vyver. And in the end, just as Van de Vyver failed to acknowledge his son, the white community has refused to acknowledge the culture of discrimination and oppression.
In the past decades there has been an increase of violence in the schools. This increase causes fear among students, teachers, parents, and all Americans. While mounting of inflammatory response is critical in eradicating bacterial infection, systemic bacterial infection can lead to an acute pro-inflammatory response, which may result in sepsis. Currently, no effective therapy is available to inhibit the activation phase of the acute inflammatory response to infection. A new group of host-protective lipids termed 13-series resolvins were demonstrated to promote bacterial phagocytosis, reduce recruitment of neutrophils to the site of inflammation, reduce inflammasome activation and augment host recovery from systemic infection by accelerating the resolution of the acute inflammatory response (48). I.p. injection of resolvins into mice infected with E. coli showed 40% increase in survival
