28 October 2015 Bullying
Growing up I have always been the easy target to be picked on. I remember times in middle school where I would just cry myself to sleep because girls that I called my friends would pick on me. After growing some confidence I realized no one should ever have to feel less than what they are. Bullying is everywhere we go and I have no idea why it is constantly going around. Even today it is hard to go on without getting small forms of bullying.
Bullying is a behavior that happens throughout each and every person’s lifetime, whether it be as the victim, the bully, or the bystander. A common image of bullying might be physical: an intimidating boy beating up a smaller child during recess for his lunch money, or verbal which can be as simple as name calling. Bullying is not healthy regardless of what form it happening. Many children do not realize that bullying can really affect someone’s life and they way someone views himself. Besides being emotionally hurt, the big issue with bullying is that people are bullying until the point in which the victim considers suicide as a solution. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among our youth. Over fourteen percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost seven percent have attempted it. Someone’s life is irreplaceable, but we can take preventative measures and lower bullying rates by bringing it to the youth 's attention. If we do not
Bullying is one of the leading causes in teen suicide today. People bullied in the past or present have been studied and it has shown that they have a lower quality of life. Though they have a lower quality of life, the have better physical and mental health. (“Seaman” 1). Studies have shown that most bullying happens in middle school and high school. There is bullying in elementary school but it is minimal and less serious (“Bullying Statistics” 1). Most kids refuse to speak up while being bullied in fear that the bully will just taunt them more (“Cyber-Safety Act” 2). Bullying has become a very serious issue regarding our society today.
In the United States Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it. Bullying is a Very serious social matter that needs to stop,
An average bullying session lasts about 37 seconds; an adult intervenes in the problem about one in twenty-five times (Bullying Facts). Bullying is seen as aggressive and unwanted behavior between two or more people (Aspa). Most people who are not involved in the actions going on do not really know it’s happening. Most parents do not even know when their child, or children, are being bullied (Bullying Facts). Bullying can be prevented if the right consequences take place. Parents and schools have the rules about bullying prevention, but these do not prevent the bullying from continuing their ways. People who bully often should receive bigger consequences because eventually the problem could escalate and the bully will continue their
Kids, adolescents, and adults in the year 2015, are experiencing tremendous pressure with bullying. More and more lawsuits are occurring, and accounts of suicides have risen 10% all across Canada. In addition, bullying prevention is not taken seriously by the parents and staff members in our community, even with the bullying assemblies and posters in schools all across the state. Suicide amongst individuals is the second leading cause of death; from ages 15 to 24, the deaths among suicide due to bullying causes 6,078 deaths every
Bullying is the cause of many suicides and deaths (Home n. pag). In McCormack’s article, he explains how many students are bullied each day and harassed to the point where they question their own self-esteem. They are no longer
According to the Jason Foundation, suicide is the second leading cause of death from ages ten to twenty-four. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease combined. This statistic just shows that what is said to other people might not matter to the speaker, but it matters to those individuals. Every day there is an average of over 5,400 attempts of suicide from kids in grades seven through twelve. If people were to exhibit more respect for others, these numbers would decline and people overall would be happier. When kids are victims of bullying they are two to nine times more likely to consider suicide than kids who are not. Bullying happens in every school all over the world, whether it is meant what was said or not it can hurt
I have just reached my one millionth hit on my YouTube video! I created this video to share the depths of bullying and abuse to those worldwide. I am extraordinarily passionate about anti-bullying, and I hope to share my ideas with numerous people. Abuse is happening worldwide, and it is an action that might not ever be resolved. I wanted to construct this video because there is an abundance of harassment happening in my own town. People are getting bullied at school due to their style or certain interests they posses. Although bullying takes place everywhere, I wanted to focus my video on one specific event. This event took place in Chicago.
“A 14-year-old girl in treatment for depression, reported that she was being bullied in school. She said that girls in her classes constantly made negative comments about her appearance, dress, and behavior. They excluded her from social activities despite her desire to participate. She said that the girls were telling lies about her to boys in the class, which was damaging her reputation. What upsets her the most was that an online site had been created in which students were encouraged to write all the reasons they hated her. She cried and said that she could not avoid the bullying even outside of school. She believed the only way to escape the bullying was to not exist anymore, and she confirmed that she was suicidal.”(Karen 2016) Bullying at the age of 13-19 increases the rate of depression, anxiety, suicide, and other mental health issues.Bullying is plaguing teens across the United States and is causing mental health issues later in victims’ lives. Each local community needs to take action to dull the effects bullying has on teens.
Bullying is defined as a physical or mental victimization of a person by another person or group. Bullying is a major problem among teens in the United States today. During the 2007 -2008 school year over thirty-two percent of the nation’s students had reported a case of being harassed or abused by a fellow peer. Bullying causes a rapid declination is the victim 's mental health. They suffer drastic, and dangerous behavior changes, mental issues that are similar to these could result in physical self-harm. As of 2007, suicide is the third-leading death cause for young people ages twelve to eighteen. The SPRC (Suicide Prevention Resource Center) said that children who are victims of bullying are at a higher risk for suicide. Not only are they at risk for suicide, in some cases people who are subject to bullying suffer from mental problems such as interpersonal sensitivity, depression, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoia, and psychotic symptoms. Issues, as such, do not just fade away with time. In most cases, people who suffer from one of these mental issues carry it into their adulthood. Chronic bullying can have long-term effects on suicidal risk and mental health that often persist into adulthood and affect everyday life. Bullying can cause rapid declination a person 's mental health, which causes them to develop chronic mental issues that can carry into adulthood and affect everyday life.
Bullying is not something that goes away after it happened once or twice, they will keep coming until something is done about the oppressor. If nobody acts upon them, serious consequences can occur. As a matter of fact, suicide is the third leading cause of death of young people. Over 14 percent of high schoolers have considered suicide and almost 7 percent have attempted it. If not suicide, they are most likely to grow up with social anxiety, low self-esteem and will require more mental health services throughout life. Furthermore,
Department of Education in Washington D.C., reported that nearly one in three students between the ages of 12 and 18 were bullied in school according to the article, “Bullying”. Bullying can happen often at school, and can lead to teasing also. According to the article, the results of bullying are serious. Studies have found that bullying may cause depression, absenteeism, poor academic performance, or all of these. Students who are bullied may feel that there is no way out and may harm themselves”. Stereotypes are hurtful, and bullying is harmful. Bullying or teasing can occur because of stereotypes or prejudice. Sadly, teen suicide can also occur from bullying. “A Yale School of Medicine study of children in 13 countries (2008) found signs of a connection between bullying, being bullied, and suicide,” according to the article “Bullying.”
Bullying occurs most frequently on school grounds rather than as often believed. It is important that parents pay close attention to their children in order to pinpoint the signs of bullying. For instance, researchers show that bullies are more likely to engage in antisocial and criminal behaviors in there adolescence and adulthood (Batsche & Knoff 1994; Farrington, 1991; Olweus, 1993). In fact bullies are more likely to be convicted of a crime in their early 20s. We may not understand why people choose to bully others, but we can try to putting an end to it by acknowledging the warning signs; of the bullier and the victim. There is a strong connection between bullying and suicide-related behaviors, but this behavior is usually mediated by other factors, including depression, violent behavior, and substance abuse.
Bullying is one of the many triggers that can lead teens to suicide. People are bullies for many different reasons. It could be to make themselves feel better about their appearance or home life. It could be that they are just truly mean inside. For whatever reason that people bully, it is always wrong. Bullying seems like no big deal until you see that the effects can be disastrous. “Cyberbullying pushed an 18-year-old over the edge, leading her to shoot herself in the chest Tuesday afternoon at the family’s Texas City home as family members watched” ( It can lead to depression, self-loathing, or even suicide. It is important to understand that most suicides are not just random acts; there is usually a trigger behind them. “Students who are bullied are more than twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who aren’t bullied” (Preventing Teen suicide).
Bullying is defined as unwanted or aggressive behavior that causes someone to feel afraid or intimidated. This behavior could be something physical, verbal, or something done electronically or through social media. If someone feels threatened by someone’s actions or words, it could be considered bullying, even if that was not the intent. There are many types of bullying, how to recognize bullying, how to report bullying, what to do if you see incidents of bullying, and what resources are available to persons who have been bullied.
Furthermore, suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. For every suicide among those teens, there are at least 100 suicide attempts and over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and about 7 percent have attempted it. Over 77 percent of students have been bullied verbally, mentally, and physically which is extreme amount. In addition, each day about 160,000 students miss school because of bullying or because of their fear of being bullied. In fact, just like any other victim of bullying, cyber bullied kids experience anxiety, fear, depression, and low self-esteem.
