Research shows that half of the children in our world have been or are being bullied. Out of all those children bullied only one out of ten of them will report it. The dictionary defines bullying as “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated over time” (Bully Definition” 1). Bullies have many characteristics such as rivalry, competitive behavior, and aggression. In Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, Jack can be considered the antagonist because he has many characteristics of a bully. One of the lines that stuck out was “Kill the beast! They are able to get power because society gives more recognition to negativity. Bullying is just one way that people get others attention (“Bullying Statistics” 1-2). Kids who bully tend to use priority and strength. They also try to get their hands on someone else’s personal or embarrassing information or use their own popularity to hurt others (“Bullying Definition” 1). Having this imbalance of power causes many people to think highly of themselves. Bullying is one of the leading causes in teen suicide today. People bullied in the past or present have been studied and it has shown that they have a lower quality of life. Though they have a lower quality of life, the have better physical and mental health. (“Seaman” 1). Studies have shown that most bullying happens in middle school and high school. There is bullying in elementary school but it is minimal and less serious (“Bullying Statistics” 1). Most kids refuse to speak up while being bullied in fear that the bully will just taunt them more (“Cyber-Safety Act” 2). Bullying has become a very serious issue regarding our society today. Bullying is a major issue in today’s society just as it was amongst the boys on the island. On the island the boys were constantly fighting, which soon separates them into two separate groups. There are many fights, which leads to some characters dying a very brutal death. The younger boys of the group always insist there is a “beastie”

She said that girls in her classes constantly made negative comments about her appearance, dress, and behavior. They excluded her from social activities despite her desire to participate. She said that the girls were telling lies about her to boys in the class, which was damaging her reputation. What upsets her the most was that an online site had been created in which students were encouraged to write all the reasons they hated her. She cried and said that she could not avoid the bullying even outside of school. She believed the only way to escape the bullying was to not exist anymore, and she confirmed that she was suicidal.”(Karen 2016) Bullying at the age of 13-19 increases the rate of depression, anxiety, suicide, and other mental health issues. Bullying is plaguing teens across the United States and is causing possible mental health issues later in victims’ lives. Each local community needs to take action to dull the effects bullying has on teens.

Within the novel and its chapters, bullying remains one of the most important parts of the plot. Children torment each other, and they inflict pain on one another in some cases. There are so many various ways to be bullied, and the book does a fantastic job of explaining and demonstrating each of them. To master bullying, required them to learn a set of skills not needed by others. No one was going to volunteer to be the one dominated just so the bully could feel powerful, get popularity, or be respected. They knew where the line was and willingly ran over it. I imagine kids who are already adept at bullying had no other view of the world, as ones who lived this at home, save that when they were there, they were the vulnerable ones. This novel follows a group of British schoolboys stranded on an island after a plane crash, which killed the pilot, as well as passengers. The boys are left without an adult figure to guide them. The main characters consist of Jack, Ralph and Piggy and in the beginning, Ralph is the boy that takes control. However, Jack soon strays from the group and convinces most of the young boys to follow him and encourages barbaric acts.

On June 14th, 2014, my friend committed suicide due to bullying. He was bullied, for many years and never wanted anyone to help him out. For many decades now, bullying is a growing concern in our society. Bullies are selfish, ignorant kids trying to become more popular. Bullies are away many snatching people’s self -esteem, rights and ending many people’s lives.

Bullying goes on every day in our society. Usually the kid that’s the bully is either having problems at school or at their home. At school they could be having problems on focusing in class or they feel like they’re not smart like the other kids. At home the kid could be have parent problems might have a mom and dad that are Drug, Acholic parents. Parents that are verbally abusive that beat on that child every day.
