Societal and financial matters are not directly held and taken care of by the presidency, they are in fact handled by the congress which is the main politic and governmental institution of a country. Current governments more precisely congress try to improve the functioning of their society and economy by proposing and passing laws that might or might not apply to all. This essay will emphasize on a passed by the congresswoman Martha Roby focusing on the functioning of companies specifically employees that may get paid for overtime work. In fact, she believes that it will be a helpful option especially for women. As she states in the CNN website, this law will help women who work on the average “do more child rearing and housework than working men do” (Calder, May 2017) and she also declares in the article that women fairly and extremely value flexibility at work thus giving them the opportunity to have compensated time- off is one way to value their housework, such as taking care of the family, doing chores etc…, implicitly . While some might agree and approve the main goal of this law and see its benefits, others are not completely disapprovers of it. Linda Meric, the national director of the Association of Working Women called 9to was one them. In fact, as she declared in the Huffington Post, the Working Families Flexibility Act will not be helpful to women but instead would “hurt them” (Meric, April 2017). The national director argues that the law is a sort of pact forcing workers to “spend more time away from their families” (2017) in exchange for a short amount of time off later on to get to enjoy their family.
