Going into my freshman year at Liberty University, I knew I wanted to major in accounting. It might seem strange to have my undergraduate degree in Counseling Psychology while applying to Graduate Program in Business Administration, but it has given me an incredible foundation for understanding coworkers and leading subordinates.

I choose to attend Bryant University because I knew of their strong focus on business majors and their strong networking reach with potential employers for their students. Currently, I am pursuing a major in management and a minor in psychology, with the possibility of either adding another minor or changing my psychology minor into a major. I have chosen this path because in coincides with my interests with life. I enjoy working with people and showing my leadership skills. I have proven this through work with various groups in my classes, leading my teams through various assignments and projects. I also shows these skills through running my own landscaping business. I employ some of my friends that are out there helping every day during the summer. I enjoy managing different jobs that my employees and I do.

However, I wanted a well paid job as a Business Manager in one of the large research departments at the University of Maryland. This was my dream job. However, a major challenge for me trying to obtain my dream job was that I didn't have yet a College Degree in Business Administration or any related area. I was pursuing a College Degree in Business Administration but I still had many years left to complete my degree. Again, as usual, my beloved mentor Joao came to my rescue. He taught me that even though I did not have a College Degree yet there were unconventional but very effective ways to land my dream job. He told me to apply for jobs before they are ever listed. Thus, I needed to connect with people from all walks of life at University of Maryland to learn about these hidden opportunities. Then, as I developed mastery in business administration and the specific business processes standardized at University of Maryland I would continue to create job opportunities even though I did not have yet a College Degree. He insisted that these large departments will always need people who can deliver strong results. I started to get interviews at the large research departments and I insisted in my interviews, as Joao advised, that I was willing to learn and I was not afraid to constantly educate myself. In ASU, my chosen major is Business Management through the William P. Carey School of Business. I chose this major because of my love for communication, leadership, and studies involving money. I really enjoy working with my dad who owns his own business and I take pleasure in understanding all the different processes within the business. The University of New Mexico believes that “Business, Finance and Economic employment rates are the fastest growing in the nation and by majoring in one of these fields at UNM, you will surely have a successful future.” For those who are not made for college, it is possible to start a businesses from the ground up.
