The cute and innocent face of a puppy is very difficult to overlook; especially when you are being stared down with those big, round puppy dog eyes. When a family decides on inviting a dog into their family, the thought of welcoming a puppy into their new home comes to their mind; but why not rescue an older dog? A dog does not grow out of it's puppy stage until six months old; it does not end there. The even harder, and exhausting stage of adolescence, comes directly after that. A dog is fully mature at the age of three. A person that adopts a puppy, will soon figure out the amount of work and time it takes to raise one properly. The most common reason people want to adopt a puppy rather than an adult dog is that they want a dog with no history. While most people believe that puppies have no history, which for the most part is true, genetics play a major role in how the puppy is going act when it matures. Knowing the temperament of a puppy's parents is an advantage, but it is never a guaranteed you will be able to find out. Also, a lot of people want to be able to mold their new little furry friend into the perfect dog; however, that is only half of the work you will need to put into your puppy. Making sure a puppy will fit into the lifestyle you have is very important. Do you have enough time for a puppy? Are you a first time pet owner? Do you have patience for all of the messes you are going to be dealing with? Do you have small children? Before getting a puppy, these are the questions you might want to ask yourself. Puppies require a lot of work and training. Somebody with a full time job will definitely not have the time for these little rambunctious creatures. A puppy is similar to having a baby; both have specific needs. Puppies need to be supervised, fed four times a day, bathroom breaks, love and attention, and lastly, they need to be taught right from wrong; they do best on a set schedule.
