The transferable skills that I chose to demonstrate proficiency of for this Capstone Portfolio Project are Communication, Diversity and Teamwork, Critical Thinking, and Ethics and Professional Responsibility. I choose to look at the two assignments that a received the highest grade. The first paper was Persuasive Letter to persuade a member of congress to look into resources to help students in the classroom who are deaf or hard of hearing. If it was with American Sign Language or hearing aids or even training for teachers. It into Communication by if I introduction and purpose was clear. Stated the main argument used to persuade. I had to summarized point of view in conclusion paragraph and requested some sort of formal action and a meeting
On assignment 4 I did not really excel on the paper at all. There were many mistakes that could have been simply corrected if I had went back over and reread my assignment. For my research paper I received a grade of 79 and on the AP scale it was a 6 paper. I am sort of proud of myself of getting a 6 because it demonstrates my progress and growth with writing papers on an AP academic level. If I were to be brutally honest I never quite was outstanding at writing research papers, I have always had difficulties writing them. Some of the reasons being having trouble citing sources, and having trouble expressing my argument. Ideally, I was aiming for a 7 for this paper, but unfortunately I messed up the bibliography and botched the CEWEW sets for
Originally, overwhelmed by the requirements and the depth of the expectations, as I completed each step in the process I met the expectations. My Political Science professor is who I decided to interview and as I interviewed him for this project and took the time to know him better my enthusiasm for this project increased as did my interest in the Political Science field. In addition to the fact that his class is one of my favorites, I know what I have learned in English has transferred as I write for his class. In fact, I have done so well that he asked me to be his TA next semester. Learning how to write effectively through the use of Ethos, Pathos and Logos have been extremely beneficial and as I mentioned during my presentation, this has crossed over into my personal life as well. Use of these modes was a large part of convincing Kayla to tell me the truth about her

The last piece of paper I will refer to was the comparison paper. In the comparison paper I felt I also learned about two influential women from two very different periods and also enjoyed connecting and comparing the two. Through these pieces of work I feel I've improved my grammar and spelling and also have learned how to write in English a paper that requires investigation and expressing thoughts, something that I've never done before. Before this semester the last time I wrote in English was 9 years ago and even then I don’t remember myself ever writing an essay, mostly un-seens and book reports. I feel that next semester in need to continue to improve my writing skills. I feel that my oral skills are relatively good, but my writing skills need to improve. I feel that I am not able to really express myself in English through writing. I feel that my vocabulary and grammar are not fluent enough. I enjoy writing about topics that have to do with current events and politics. I enjoy expressing my thoughts and comparing different situations and using creativity to connect
Improving on these skills as well as gaining more experience with writing thesis statements and writing in an organized fashion could benefit me greatly not only in my education but also in my career. The most challenging part of this course has been the task of evaluating my peers. Grading others is not something I am used to doing. I do not feel like it is my place to judge others.
As the course has progressed and assignments have been completed I have become aware of my strength areas though participation in tasks, reflection and feedback from my tutor. I have used my word processing skills to complete all written work and presented it in the correct format. I have been tasked with two oral communication projects, both of which required me to use
to show the improvements I have made throughout the semester as well as address some of the
The pieces I have chosen to be apart of my portfolio are the Catcher in the Rye essay, the American rebels powerpoint, the Streetcar Named Desire essay and the Catcher In The Rye fishbowl. I chose to include the Catcher in the Rye essay because it showcased my ability to explain in detail quotes from the book and expand on one idea. I also chose this essay because I got an 82% which I believe is a good grade for a hard essay topic such as the symbolism of the ducks. In addition, I chose the Catcher In The Rye fishbowl because it showed my ability to work cooperatively with my peers and actively listen to one another. Overall I earned a 92% on the fishbowl which is an A-. Lastly, I chose the American Rebels project because I did a very good
The evidence I am addressing is 3b: The student demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill relative to assessing learner needs. The competency is: The student is able to use ability, achievement, and behavioral assessments to plan educational programs that are responsive to multiple perspectives and can be implemented in a variety of settings.
English Composition is a college accredited course offered to all students, typically most are seniors. As the only junior that would be taking English Composition I felt compelled to prove my worth of being capable of handling the course. Since the goal of the class is to introduce students to college writing the final was a research paper worth 20% of our grade. The subject I choose to write about was whether or not learning in front of a screen can replace the human face or not. After submitting this paper I felt like I had undoubtedly put my best foot forward and completed the assignment to the best of my ability. As a result, not only received an A on the paper, but I had successfully showed that I was capable of higher
Welcome. I am currently a first year student at the University of California, Merced and I am majoring in Psychology. I set up this portfolio as a documented reflection on the process I made during the semester in Writing 001. This shows the beginning of my milestone of college writing in my first year of UCM. There are different categories of the PLO that helps me define the skills that I have achieved upon the course. In the beginning of the semester, I knew that I would be introduced to many fields of writing. I know there is much more to learn and to improve, but also I feel like my writing skills slowly progressed since the beginning of this class. Since I was little, I wasn't a big fan of any writing assignments at school. Even if it
Like I previously mentioned I rate my Task Completion ability to be “above average”. I’m able to show evidence through completing and submitting all required reading and assignments on time. By moving beyond the basic instruction given my assignment are a lot more clear and understandable. When it comes to completing assigned work I always make sure to turn it in on time. In general, all of my work demonstrates a clear understanding of the directions while also meeting the identified expectation. By applying concepts from the reading to my assignments I’m able to turn in well written papers.
The first paper that I decided to include in my portfolio is Plato’s Cave Allegory. I added this paper because I felt like it was the first essay I wrote that was splendid after my first attempt. I think that my analysis of Plato’s Allegory represents my skill of information literacy. I believe that I used the information from the Allegory effectively and determined the extent of relevant information needed. I improved my final draft by adding more relevant information in sections where it was necessary. I think that my rhetoric awareness was excellent because I used appropriate tone and style to address and satisfy the requirements of the assignment. I did this by making sure that my reader, the professor, and my peers, would not be bored
I spent more time to complete Citizen Science SWOT analysis; however, I still need to improve it based on the feedback that I got from my instructor. I need to work more to develop my paragraph and adding effective topic sentences. Hopefully, my final draft will be better and the grade will be satisfied.
As I am comparing my signature assignment with the grading rubric I have realized that there are still many areas that I am not providing clear examples or providing specific explanations. Also, I need to revise the comparative section and make it clearer to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each situation based on the research. I have found this assignment extremely helpful in guaranteeing that I haven’t overlooked any critical
