Career Interview

I interviewed Ashley Porras, a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Sharp Rees Stealy. She gave me background information of how she got into the healthcare system, great advice and what she does on a daily basis. The reason I chose Ashley as the person to interview was because I got the chance to spend the day with her at work and I loved it. I found it interesting what she did and got the opportunity to learn more about her, her occupation and where she see’s herself in the future. Someday, I would be an LVN and gradually get higher in the healthcare field like she is doing now.

For this assignment I was able to interview Regina Bowman RN, BSN. Her current position is that of the Director of Medical Surgical Nursing. Her position places her over top of seven nursing units between two facilities. Regina graduated from the Mercer Medical School of Nursing in 1979 with her diploma in nursing. The Mercer medical school of nursing is still in operation although it has been renamed the Capital Health School of Nursing. Her return to school started after graduation. She enrolled at Mercer County Community College to obtain her Associates. Secondly she attended La Salle University and received her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 2003. The interview process is something we have all gone through in order to get any job. It may not be our dream job but it is a job and we all have to do this process in order to even be able to start working. In Katy Piotrowski’s article “Preparing for the Job Interview: Know Thyself,” she explains everything that you need to know and not know when going to a job interview. Graduating college and having a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Nursing is what I look forward to doing in the next two years. I will be discussing myself applying for a position in the nursing department. Being the right candidate for this RN nursing position in hospice care requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and that is why I am a good candidate for this position.

When I first found out about this assignment I was a little anxious because I didn 't know whom I would interview or how my request would be received. As I consider my options I thought it would be best to interview someone that could offer me some insight as to what it is like to be an elementary or junior high school counselor, which are the two age groups that I would most like to work with. With this in mind, I decided to interview one of my son 's past guidance counselors. This is a woman that I have admired since the first day that I met her. In talking with her I found her to be a very knowledgeable, caring, and open person. She has been in the helping profession for over twenty years and working as a guidance counselor since 1999.

Interviewing has become more and more natural for me because I have prepared and been through quite a few through 4-H and previous career prep courses. Just a few weeks ago, I had an interview for a nursing school and the first question they asked me was: tell me about yourself. In addition, to that popular question, they also asked: what are your strengths and weaknesses and why should we choose you over another student. The interview overall went very well and in the end, I was accepted. 1.

For my health care interview assignment I chose to interview Mayra Cruz, Certified Nurses Assistant. She works at Cuidado Casero Home Health and Hospice at 1617 E. Missouri Ave, El Paso, Texas. In my interview with her she described her job duties, her patients and how she interacts with others in her environment. In addition, she identified the length of time she has been in her current position, her career path that has led her to this position as well as her experience in the health care industry. The career I choose to do my Career Story Interview, which I’m interested in doing, was Web Developer. Technically, the person that I interview, Jordan Scheller, is officially a Software Developer, but he creates/maintains websites which is what Web Developers do. So to be completely clear, the career I will be investigating is Web Developer.

I had an interview with Helen Quelch in her office. She has been working as a volunteer engagement manager at National Jewish Health for more than 7 years. Before that, she also had worked at the Denver Hospice as volunteer manager as well for many years. She had a lot of managerial experiences of working in a healthcare field. That is a reason I want to interview her to explore the career in healthcare management.

My Profile of Business is on Nurses; but more specifically Flight Nurses. I chose to do a profile of business on flight nurses because I wanted to thoroughly know what the job and work environment entails, as well as the experience, education, and certifications requirements for the field. I also wanted to know the salary and characteristics of a good flight nurse. The information will be invaluable when I start on my path to becoming a flight nurse. In order to make the report well rounded I interviewed Lynn Manning. Lynn is currently a Nightingale Air Ambulance Flight Nurse at Norfolk General Hospital; she has been a registered nurse for 20 years and a flight nurse for four years. I used the information from the interview and websites such as Flight Nurse HQ, Nurse.com, and OSFHealthcare.com to create an in-depth profile of a Flight Nurse.

For my health care interview, I conduct an interview with Ayanna Randle Banks she is Quality Assurance Nurse at Kensington Place located at 3405 S. Michigan, Chicago IL. Kensington Place is a nursing home and rehabilitation facility. She has worked at Kensington Place for three years and was recently promoted to a Quality Assurance Nurse. As a Quality Assurance Nurse, she works to the review of clinical cases that may be related to quality of care issues identified by appeals and grievance process, adverse events occurring in the hospital or an outpatient setting, which provides clinical interventions. She also evaluates the work and behavior of employees in her departments. And also educate other nurses on the best practices and implement innovative procedures to improve the quality of work. This managerial role is often considered to relate more closely to the business side of health services than patient care.

For this informational I wanted to interview a nursing professional because I am interested to major in nursing. I tired to contract nurses in Hospitals and clinics but ended up at the student health services at valley. I conducted my Interview With Ms. Helen and he is a nurse practitioner. We sat down in her office for about 25 minutes and I asked her questions regarding her career.

The person I had chosen to interview is a middle-aged, black, Jamaican woman; I will call Lorna. I had known Lorna for many years now. I had met her while I was working in the operating room as an OR nurse. Lorna came to us a couple of years later, hired for a position of the surgical technologist.

I interviewed Officer Greenlee, who is a close friend. She works as a Correctional Officer for the Peoria County Jail, I interviewed her while we were on duty on Saturday, April 16th.
