Question 1
What makes people say that Jimmy Carter was a poor president while Abraham Lincoln is still celebrated as a leader of vision and great respect in America? The answer lies in understanding the need to rate leaders. Some leaders such as Alexander the Great are reputed for having shown great leadership qualities while some are neither celebrated nor reputed for having done anything worthwhile. The idea of all this background information is to show that the idea of rating leaders is not an emerging concept, and there are no rules or parameters that should guide the process, but rather on their ability to serve the needs of their followers.
Leadership is not a static process, but rather one which has a lot of dynamism, and the ability to navigate all these issues are what makes a leader to be rated as being great or not. A leader is not one who is at the helm of an organization, but rather one who can motivate, inspire, grow, mentor, and develop others to fulfill their potentials. The inclination being that leaders are as good as their followers. Abraham Lincoln is judged because of the nation that he left behind. Jimmy Carter is remembered for having overseen one of the most corrupt regimes in modern America. The point is that the ability of the leaders to have the desired results and the impact that their actions have on these followers is what counts (Schyns & Wolfram, 2008). Some careers are said to favor women such as nurturing, while men are associated with

When it comes to the topic of women and leadership, there are many stereotypes one is likely to hear. One of the most common stereotypes about female leaders is that men are better leaders than women. Although we are able to see more males holding a leadership position that does not mean that they are “better” at it than women. Studies have shown that companies with women leaders often perform better (CITATION). Another stereotype associated with women and leadership is that women are too emotional to be in charge. Some also believe that women are weak and are not
Confidence, integrity, purpose, empowerment, determination, and courage. These are some of the many words associated with leadership. Regardless of gender, these words apply to all leaders. It is no longer a question of what women leaders are, but rather why there are not women leaders. Today’s society focuses on fulfilling leadership positions with males, not because females do not have the same skills and knowledge as men, but because people associate men with leaders. There are various daily obstacles that women face in the attempt towards leadership roles including prejudice beliefs, resistance due to stereotypes, leadership styles, family life demands and underinvestment in social capital. We have found that through depictions in the media, women are not seen as effective leaders in the same sense as men. These media findings and various research techniques provide evidence for the lack of female presence in leadership positions.
Great leaders generally have to lead more than one person. They have a group or team that needs to collaborate and cooperate in order to get the work done, and this means that the leader needs to be adept at
President Richard Nixon’s Watergate incident and resignation in August of 1974 left the nation feeling skeptic toward the national government. Gerald Ford, who was not elected by the public, took the oath of office and became the 38th president of the United States. President Ford, coined with a repugnant image in both the eyes of the public and the media, was defeated by 56 electoral votes in the election of 1976. Jimmy Carter managed to receive similar distasteful images by the end of his single term as well. Although there were similarities between Ford and Carter, the two presidents were different in terms of previous experience, domestic policies, and foreign affairs.
In 1982, forty nine historians and political scientists were asked by the Chicago tribune to rate all the Presidents in five categories: leadership qualities, political skills, appointments, and character/integrity. In 1st place stood Lincoln. He was followed by Roosevelt, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, President Jefferson, Jackson, Woodrow Wilson, and Harry Truman. None of these different Presidents exceeded Lincoln in any class in the rate scale. Moreover,

Across time, political leaders have often been remembered for their greatness by how they faced challenges than with what particular skills or abilities they had during their time in office. This statement is known to be true as political leaders are often expected to solve certain issues or challenges when in office and if their contributions benefit the state or country. Additionally, history books, records, and scholarly journals will take note of a leader’s response to challenges, how they are handled, and if the issue is solved more than whether they adequately used certain skills and abilities to solve the problem. In short, challenges, when faced, allow the political leaders to be remembered more so than their talents.
Every four years, for decades and decades, U.S. citizens have been faced with the challenge of deciding which presidential candidate they’ll vote for. Sometimes presidents with severe deficiencies in character have been elected, sometimes others lacking leadership skills and the ability to tackle the problems and difficulties posed by the presidency. However, there have also been some presidents who, though not without their flaws, have remained as a model of an ideal president to many people. Washington and Lincoln are two of these presidents, who exemplified many admirable qualities as leaders.
Leadership is something that people are born with. It is an inherent charm and it doesn’t hide even if you want to hide it. There is a leader amongst us and he or she is the one that leads other people to great things by inspiring and motivating people to do good deeds. Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. This way a leader can decide what work goes in and goes out. Good leaders in history have left a mark in walks of life. But great leaders, they’re different. To start off, the leadership characteristics mentioned by Chin were intelligence, dominance, confidence, masculinity, and charisma. According to her quotation male leaders, all have those characteristics which made them be great conductors. Therefore, there have been more male leaders than female leading characters. As a group, we usually assume that man should always be the leaders because of what we are accustomed to seeing. For example, the president of the United States all males and when there was a female candidate running for presidency she clearly lost. However, many people are not aware about the fact that females are usually working behind the scenes and they let man be “on the spotlight” because if the roles were to reverse the female leaders will not be taken as seriously as the man since females are categorized as “emotional individuals” as if being emotional would impair them from being a good leader.
