In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great men and women came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the form of massive music festivals. In the late 1972, the black community came together for a concert known as Watts Summer Festival. In 1969, the largest music festival of its time was held, and was known as Woodstock. Later that year, the Rolling Stones put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as the Altamont Concert. All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or becoming famous, but about the unity of people through the art of music.
Have you seen those weird music festival T-shirts that people wear and wonder what someone could possibly want to wear that for? While they’re sometimes meant to catch attention of people so they may want to look up the festival, it also serves as a reminder for many amazing memories for the two or three-day event. For a long time now music has changed people’s lives in many ways. It has brought people to fame and lifted many out of depressions. But, to those who haven’t experienced a festival, or even live music in general, you have been missing out an amazing social experience like no other. From the kings of festivals like Woodstock or Coachella to the lesser known ones like Rock on the Range (Hard rock/metal based) and Day for Night (variety) there are hundreds to pick from. One of my favorites is Carolina Rebellion which takes place right in this state.
Going to the jazz performance at the Bechtler showed me a different side of the community in Charlotte coming together. At the Bechtler Museum host, an annual night of jazz the theme for this performance was Jazz Night for Lovers. They had two shows, which both sold out. Once were allow inside the venue everyone took there sits and watched as a beautiful 14-year-old girl sing her heart to the crowd. The crowd loved her and her performance. Things got even better when the jazz band got on stage and there special performer.
On top of the different fundraisers going on in 1963, there was also an event called the March on Birmingham in Alabama. Since public facilities were not being desegregated like the hope that they had in Georgia, they needed to make a change and show what they wanted. The campaign that was planned in Birmingham to make a change had planned demonstrations, boycotts, sit-ins, marches on the city hall, and even sending high school students to jail. Martin Luther King, and many other activists wanted to be able to desegregate the lunch areas in downtown, they wanted blacks to be able to have fair jobs, allow both whites and blacks to attend the parks, desegregate public schools, and avoid charges against people who were demonstrators during this time. While gathering people in the black community to participate in the fundraisers and campaign in Birmingham, the musicians helped by providing songs within meetings, which helped to inform others about the events, encourage the people to be strong and fight for what they wanted, gain support and rally people for the boycotts, and they even sang and played to celebrate with the people.
In late May 2015, a few friends of mine and my girlfriend made the decision to go to big festival of punk bands held inside of a shutdown high school that acts now as a performing arts center. Among these bands, there was a couple that I was beyond excited to see; Chunk, No Captain Chunk!, Real Friends, and most of all “Modern Baseball.” It was a full day festival of fun and excitement. In a hurry we bought tickets and began our wait for the day to finally come, trudging through the last few weeks of school.
Wattstax, a primarily black music festival, commemorated the seventh anniversary of the Watts riot in 1972. It took place in the Los Angeles Coliseum, where over 100,000 people were in attendance.“African American music in particular has been a medium of extraordinary public dialogue, shaping a mobilizing political constituencies”(Quinn, E. 21).
The festival which already receives funding from major companies, can seek out new music focused company sponsorship's that will provide aid for the costs of the concerts. The last opportunity for the festival includes the role it can provide in educating the local youth about local cultural music, theater, and arts. Many may grow up to have a strong appreciation towards their own communities’ festival.

Every year for the past two years, I have had the pleasure of going to one of the biggest attractions in Los Angeles: The Taste of Soul Festival, a community event held on the famous Crenshaw Boulevard where the people of Los Angeles come together as one. People also come from others states to enjoy this event. There is singing, dancing, competitions, games and activities. The festival includes live bands comprised of R&B, jazz, country, gospel and much more. Many vendors also participate in this event, selling food such as hotdogs, sausages, fish, crabs, chicken, cotton candy and ice cream. This is a big event. According to the Los Angeles Sentinel, more than 300,000 people attended in 2012. One of the best times of my stay in Los Angeles was being a part of this event. My favorite enjoyment was the live Gospel Music, the steppers, and the great seafood.
Ultra Music Festival (UMF) is a yearly open air electronic music celebration that happens in March in the city of Miami, Florida, United States (DURAN, 2013).In this report I have analysed about the ultra-Miami festival event in USA and what is behind the success of the event.
