However, with the promulgation of the Ports Act 1998, the role of the CHCL was changed to that of a full-fledged operator, operating under a Concession Contract with the MPA, the landlord Port Authority. Since assuming full responsibility for the handling and storage of cargo at Port Louis, the CHCL has invested heavily in the procurement of sophisticated equipment as well as in I.T facilities.
