Rachel Meyers is a Senior Chief Transportation Consultant for the United States Department of Transit - Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Ms. Meyers has worked for the FTA for twenty-five years and previously worked for National Transportation Consultants (NTCI) as a Consultant. Ms. Meyers has a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety with a minor in Communications and a Master’s degree in Safety Management. Ms. Meyers has attended the Federal Aviation Administration academy and volunteered at the academy. She is a member of the National Safety Council, the American Society of Safety Engineers, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Meyers has recommended safety plans to organizations such as Port Authority (PA) and sectors operating on PA property. During that particular consulting assignment Ms. Meyers worked closely with Aviation Safety also known as Airway Safety to recommend beneficial safety plans for both passengers and employees. Ms. Meyers reviewed and personally led more than 75 major investigations, including the 2009 Metrorail train collision in Washington D.C. and the 2010 airplane crash near Aleknagik, Alaska, that killed Senator Ted Stevens along with four others. In the past, Ms. Meyers has also worked directly with the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commissioner to devise a safety plan for both drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. Due to Ms. Meyers background regarding transportation safety MTA’s Chairman and Executive officer Thomas F. Prendergast has hired her to recommend a solution to the current conflict regarding sleep apnea and train collisions in the MTA
