Categorical Imperative is an ethical theory, which focuses on decisions that are both moral and rational. This theory takes universal laws in consideration and focuses on rules, principles, duty and goodwill. This theory is basically based on our ability to act as rational human beings.

The Groundwork takes up a big question: What is the supreme principle of morality? (Michael J. Sandel, 2009). Besides this question, I am going to consider the following questions: What is the categorical imperative? The difference between categorical and hypothetical imperatives. What is morality from Kant’s point of view? And of course, the main question of this essay - Will the categorical imperative apply to all kinds of moral problems?

The categorical imperative does have strength in its principled and high minded nature that can be condensed down into the following three formulations:

When analyzing moral theories, the reader should know that morals pertains to ethics and understand the basis behind its meaning. According to Merriam-Webster (n.d.), moral is defined as what is considered as right and wrong by most people and agreeing with a standard of right behavior. Reviewing the various normative theories of moral frameworks, the two that were approximal to my personal philosophy are Stoic Virtue Ethics and Categorical Imperative.
