In order to be effective, leaders must listen, communicate, act with openness and integrity, and collaborate. To be an effective Catholic leader, they still must do these things, but they must also have an explicit mission as a Catholic and see themselves as God sees them. Leaders have goals that must be accomplished. Catholic leaders have goals that are shaped and formed by how they live their faith. Being a leader does not simply mean telling people what to do, but guiding them, helping them to grow as people, and helping them to develop their God-given gifts. As a leader, the main focus should be upon the people that you are leading and not yourself. This takes practice and patience; trial and error. But helping others to grow allows a person to grow as well. Leadership should be the means to put out an impact throughout the world so that the love of God can descend upon the world and change it. …show more content…
It has always been a preference of mine to work behind the scenes. But sometimes being a leader means stepping out of your comfort zone. Something I believe being a member of the NHS will help me to develop is courage in leadership. Courage is, I believe, one of the most crucial elements in successful Catholic leadership. In such a secular world it becomes a necessity to stand up for you beliefs, to say something against the popular opinion, and to hopefully lead the way to the new popular
My leadership skills will be very beneficial to the NHS. I am very confident in my abilities and feel that I can inspire others. Most of my leadership experience has came from sports with awards, assistant coaching, and team captain responsibilities, but it has also came from my 4-H project with several cows from our family dairy farm. My favorite leadership role has been assistant coaching a youth baseball team. I would benefit the team by bringing my knowledge from 10 years of baseball, and scheduling practices to work in the areas where improvement was needed. It was amazing seeing the kids grow and develop new skills. Being in the NHS would give me endless opportunities to use my hands, head, and heart for
I use the missionary leadership style to develop my team and others. This style has been chosen by me due to my concern for others and their growth and development. This style of leadership is used by leaders who are goal-directed and aspire to guide and develop others with a meaningful purpose and a strong personal belief (Taylor, 2016). Interestingly, the concern for missionaries is to effectively develop mentees in a manner that will have a positive impact in their lives.
From a personal perspective, leadership from a Christian worldview is about transforming your skills, abilities, and knowledge of the vision of life, beliefs, values, and principles. Due to the differing worldviews as a leader from a secular or biblical perspective, the ways of life as a leader divert the values that guide us, beliefs that direct us, and principles that motivate us to act or behave a certain way. Jesus lives in disciples, and we should all be living as his light and world. In Paul’s plea he stated, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1, New International Version). Not everyone is in the public eye, but everyone is in the eye of someone, and there he or she is a leader. I will discuss my growth and development into the leader from a Christian worldview and from course material as support.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Last night at Northridge high school the Newark Catholic Green Wave rolled in Johnstown looking to sing the hometown Northridge Vikings. So far this season for Newark Catholic it has been a very up and down season, where injuries have hurt this team but caused the coaching staff to build depth and for the Vikings it has been a season that have seen get a win over a,5-4 Minford team and posting two other wins.
At the end of the day being a great spiritual leader encompasses many aspects of a person as a leader an in order to become a great leader and accomplish the “Great Commission” we must continue to develop ourselves as leaders in order to become the leader God intended us to be. McNeal states “greatness is earned. It is not a gift; it is a reward. It is not accidental; it is cultivated.”
Participate in a leadership weekend is one of my passion to travel the world to experience the many people with whom I share this planet. My travels will help me understand the needs of different cultures and raise my awareness of various ways to engage communities. Another reason why I wish to attend in this Leadership Weekend is I see this will provide me very essential opportunity to expand and build my communication, confidence skills by interact with other people. As matter of fact, one of my future goal or dream is to sever my native country (Tibet), which is occupied by China government right now and people are suffering not having freedom of speech, freedom of religious and my younger fellow Tibetan brothers and sisters not getting equal right accessing model educations, which cause
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and
Leadership is about helping people, empowering people, setting clear goals and motivation, while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organisation.
“There is much that can be learned about leadership from Scripture” (Smith, 1992, p. 39). The Bible provides us with what God not only desires His man of God to be, but requires His under shepherd to meet His character traits.
Effective leadership approaches from a biblical perspective consist of God’s nature in his manifested character. Christian leaders are willing to pay the price to lead in Christ’s affliction. Paul said there is a price to pay in order to lead and Jesus reminded us, “Remember what I told you: 'A servant is not greater than his master. ' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also” (John 15:20, New International Version). Christian leaders need core attributes of God’s styles and approaches, support and linkage from scriptures, and knowledge of his leadership models of truth for effective leadership. However, these perspectives will gave me a better appreciation and insight of who God is and who I can be with his guidance.
My Catholic School leadership experience stems from years of being involved in my diocese, first as a student, then as an employee and then as a mother who raised and educated three children in that diocese. I am a firm supporter of Catholic education as I have experienced the benefits that only a Christ centered learning environment can provide as a student, parent and educator.
I never thought to be a Christian leader. As a matter of fact, I am a person who did not know about God for 26 years. I was the center of my life, and there was no room for God to enter. Even when I was attending church service, I was trying not to be exposed to other church people. In other words, I was the kind of person who was afraid to walk into a life of faith. However, in the past three years, God has changed me in many ways, and showed me so many miraculous things. And, finally here I am. Being a Christian leader seems the most challenging job in the world. I am working as the chairman of a youth ministry, and walking on the path to be a church leader. When God called me to work for the
In Ephesians 4:11 (KJV), The Apostle Paul writes of the offices in the New Testament church which have been ordained by God for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ. Pastors and teachers is a combined role of what the leader of the church in a growing ministry are called by God to perform.
