September 11. 2001 was a major turning point in American History, and its political and social impact can still be felt today. The tragic event shook the entire country on the civilian and federal level. Before 9/11 many did not think that a plan of terrorism such as that of Osama Bin Laden's would be able to come to fruition because they had great trust in American security. The destruction came as a wakeup call to the federal government and American citizens themselves. National Security became the first thing people thought of when they traveled, and civilians looked to the government for reassurance that they were safe. The federal government's plan of action was to pass a series of acts that would go on to create the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Association. Along with the creation of more strict security measures came the question of "who is a terrorist?" within the country. The formation of the DHS, TSA, and increase of Islamophobia are some examples of the lasting effects that 9/11 had on the country.

The morning was like every other, people woke up got ready for work, sent their kids to school and some were even still sleeping in bed. I like to say that everything happens for a reason, and the reasons of 9/11 still continue to puzzle the people today. On the morning of September 11, 2001, an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda carried out a series of four attacks on the United States. The most well-known attack is when two commercial airline planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. Many innocent lives were lost and families were torn apart. While many Americans were determined to show their resilience towards the attacks, this is a day many Americans will never forget. Not too long after taking off, the terrorists took control of the four planes they boarded. They took over American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and United Airlines Flight 93.

A tragedy is an event that occurs that brings great destruction and despair to everything it affects. 9/11, or September 11, was completely unexpected and devastating to the entire United States, and even to many other countries around the world. 2,753 people have now perished thanks to this horrific occurrence, varying from two years old to 85 (cnn.com, 2015). Clean-up afterwords cost nearly 750 million dollars, and much more economic costs were spent by the United States(cnn.com, 2015). But, years later, it still makes a big impact on our decisions as a nation, just as it did when 9/11 first happened. Long-terms effects of 9/11 include the way airports and planes are handled, the way American muslims are looked at, and how tourism and travel have changed.

The 9/11 World Trade Center events are one of the darkest stains in the history of mankind and most of society never managed to understand how people can adopt such horrifying methods with the purpose of expressing themselves. These events change the world completely, as every domain ranging from aviation to local police experienced reform and were reorganized with the purpose of being able to deal effectively with potential terrorist threats. Economics, politics, and society in general came to use different strategies from that point on and it is actually difficult for someone to claims that he or she never experienced the aftermath of the 9/11 events.

Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
