That all change when Japan launched a surprise attack in the Pacific onto military installations on December 7, 1941. The most known attack happened at the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii. This attack was the most devastating and lasted for about two hours long. Eight-teen war ships were sunk or damaged and about one-hundred and sixty planes destroyed. That day hundreds of soldiers lost their lives. The strength of America is shown in this statement by President Franklin D.
