Celebrities have a moral responsibility to be good role models for the society, would you agree?
First of all by using the dictionary the main definitions can be broken down; the definition for a celebrity is ‘a famous or well known person’. The definition of moral responsibility is ‘the idea that a person has moral obligations in certain situations.’ The definition of a good role model is ‘a person whose behaviour, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people.’
Our opinion as a group is that every human being has a moral responsibility towards society although celebrities tend to have the upper hand when it comes down to being ‘good’ role models. Our three arguments for this topic would be: First,

Also there is Chris Gardner the inspiration for the movie ‘Pursuit of Happiness’.
Our third argument is ‘Celebrities influence the youth of today’. The youth of today are much modernised, instead of reading books of history and relating to the heroes of yesterday, they tend to watch movies, TV shows and make the celebrities the hero of today. The main reason why the youth especially make celebrities their role models is because at one point of time in their life they want to become like those role models, they want to have same amount of fame, they want to be popular and loved amongst others like the role models. Some of them get inspired so much that they even want to look exactly like the role models. For example: Harman Badeja a fairly new Indian movie star got so Inspired by Hritik Roshan a superstar in Bollywood, that he has made his face and hair look exactly like him.
Having stated all the above points, our counter argument is ‘celebrities cannot always be considered as ‘good’ role models’. Some of the actions committed by the celebrities can be inappropriate and a very bad influence for the general population/audience. Henceforth why there is a censor board in place. The censor board is there to prevent celebrities showing or anything which can be classified as ‘harmful’ for the audience. They try their best to make celebrities pure in front of the audience, yet still some
Being a celebrity is not all it is cracked up to be. They have to deal with situations that the average citizen most likely cannot relate to. For example, many celebrities constantly encounter paparazzi who stalk them in order to take their picture, invading their privacy. Celebrities must also juggle demanding jobs, while maintaining a home life that many attempt to live as normally as possible. Celebrities lead busy, hectic lives that require them to appear in public frequently, exposing themselves to intense scrutiny; nonetheless, the private lives of celebrities should be off limits because everyone has a First Amendment right to privacy, it is invading their privacy not our business, causes different problems such as serious damage problems that might end up messing with their careers, and affecting family members in a negative way.
Many people get stressed and the only way to get their mind off is by celebrities. In Palmers essay, he states, “We teenagers are passionate—maybe even obsessed—about our favorite stars, but that doesn’t make it a big problem (...)” (14). This means that we look up to celebrities and there is nothing wrong with it. He later states “[...] and it doesn’t mean we want to copy their bad behaviors.” (14). In Kings article she says that celebrities can affect the way we behave. But, as Palmer demonstrates, being obsessed is no big deal.
A) While many look up and want to be just like them, celebrities are depicted in a way that is unreal and abnormal.
As you can see, celebrity activism helps out a big variety of problems and issues.
“Everyone has a right to their own opinion”, a fairly famous quote both true for celebrities and ordinary citizens alike. When there’s a topic getting a lot of attention from the main media outlets, celebrities are asked for their opinion on where they stand on the topic. Yet, whether they are asked to give a statement or not, they are still allowed to have the right to do so. No matter how large or small your influence is in society, your voice shouldn’t be hushed away because it wasn't as agreeable as the others.
Many celebrities are looked at as role models, their behaviors and comments are always right in some people’s eyes. Although some celebrities are aware they are idols for some people and try to promote healthy behaviors and bring awareness to global issues. Other celebrities don’t bother; they act wild and make bad decisions. People look at celebrities and think “they’re wealthy and successful so I need to act just like them if I want to become wealthy and successful also.” If someone’s idol acts like a jerk then that person will think that it’s okay to act that way when it’s not.
The definition of a role model is a person whose behaviour, example or success can be emulated by others, especially young people. Their values, actions and behaviours are upheld as an ideal and to be desired. Being a role model may not be taken in its entirety. It can be broken down allowing a person to be a role model in one area and not another. Being a manager is not a guarantee to be a role model. Good leaders will model behaviours that encourage employees to endorse organisational goals and objectives. By modelling the behaviours you find desirable and that will help reach company gaols others will also begin to model said behaviours.
Celebrities have taken on a unique role in the twenty-first century, one that is more extreme than the entertainment sector has ever known. Celebrity status is now almost forming an extra limb to the bureaucracy of the world, and their fame makes them all politicians at one point or another. In 2009, the Journal of Business Ethics published an article titled, “Ethics of Celebrities and Their Increasing Influence in the Twenty-first Century Society.” Within the article, they outline the powers held by modern day celebrities in the following quote. “The global influence of celebrities in the 21st century extends far beyond the entertainment sector. During the recent Palestinian presidential elections, the Hollywood actor Richard Gere broadcast a televised message to voters in the region and stated, ‘Hi, I’m Richard Gere, and I’m speaking for the entire world.’” The power goes beyond simple elections as well. Emma Watson spearheads a feminist movement known as “He for She”, in which she asks that men around the world pledge to promote the ideals of gender equality and fairness. It is important to note that the “He for She” movement has generated its velocity from the stage of the United Nations, and at the hand of a celebrity, not a world leader. This is not to say
Athletes, singers, actors – what do all these people have in common? They’re idols; people who are loved, looked up to, and copied because they’re so good at what they do. They’re the examples every child patterns themselves after. But are they a good influence? Consider an athlete like Ray Rice, who plays well on the field, but beats his wife when the cameras aren’t looking. Or, an actor like Johnny Depp, who skillfully makes a story come to life on the screen, but slips into a drug-addict lifestyle like it’s a sweater. These are the people who will define our future – not who the new generation is, but who they look up to. If the wrong people are chosen to pattern ourselves after, it turns into chaos. For example, look at the Slender Man
Multiplicity of people believes that celebrities need to have a sly-out toward facing crimes. However, celebrities’ need to abide enlightened that they are inspirational to little kids, fans, and parents. Why should celebrities’ receive the benefit of the doubt while, people that are not celebrities, be punished and to be charged for every movement and action that they
Have you ever wondered what influences us to behave the way we do? Look a certain way? Or even looked for an explanation to what causes us to apply a certain perspective regarding personal and controversial issues? One of the answers to these questions may revolve around the influence we absorb from celebrities. A definitive term for celebrity is an iconic figure to a category or group who has achieved success in one or multiple aspects of their lives. As a result, these individuals have drawn in publicity and fame. Over the years with the advances in media and other forms of communication, celebrities have become topics of discussion worldwide, rather if it’s at school, with colleagues or at the dinner table, it is fair to say that
Do celebrities make bad role models? I believe they do. Kids see celebrities in the news everyday and mimic what they do, thinking that they should be like them. But that is wrong. Most celebrities don’t know what they are doing in their life because they have a hard time telling reality from fantasy. They are like you and me, but people think that they are more than that. Most magazines and movies have pictures/videos of airbrushed celebrities and when teenager look at these they start believing that looking like how celebrities do is the only way to be popular and loved.
Most people would say that in order to be considered a good role model, you first need to be considered a good person. A good person is typically a person who has empathy for others, tries their best to make good decisions, and follows the law. After reading this description, of what a good person is, celebrities would not typically be the first group of people that would pop into your head because of their bad reputations, but that doesn't mean that all public figures are known for their bad choices. Celebrities should be famous for their talents and skills in some sort of field, or they could just have a great life story and have done great things in their life which inspired people to do the same. After all, everyday people run red lights all the time and no one would ever know, but the moment a celebrity gets one traffic ticket, it will be instantly posted all over every single magazine and news station. Public figures should be considered role models because, many public figures can serve as inspiration to do great things and a great example of what can happen if you make bad decisions.

A role model is a person who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness, live to our fullest potential, and see the best in ourselves. A role model is someone we admire and someone we inspire to be like. Most kids of today pick their role models from who they see on TV. Role models are a large part of everyone’s lives. Every person is looking for something different when searching for the best role model for them. But who makes a good model? The celebrities that kids are looking up to are adults that partake in adult and illegal behavior such as partying, drinking, and drugs that lead into violence. Would you consider that a good role model material? Celebrities should not be looked up to as role models.
