Week 1 (8th Sept to 14th Sept): This week involved constant changes in the number of hours I spent studying. I received 4 tokens this week. Week 2 (15th Sept to 21st Sept): This week was similar to the previous week. I received 6 tokens, which was an improvement from last week. Week 3 (22nd Sept to 28th Sept): This week saw an overall increase in the number of hours spent studying. At the beginning of the week, I studied for 4.68hrs, whereas on the last day of the week, I studied for 5.07hrs. Although this was a decrease from day 20, the overall trend saw a positive rise. I received 5 tokens this week, which is a decrease from last week, but an improvement from week 1. Throughout the past 3 weeks, the maximum number of hours I …show more content…
According to DiMatteo, Martin and Haskard-Zolnierek (2010), variable schedules allow to the reward system to remain fresh and interesting. This would most likely reinforce my behaviour better. As continuous reinforcement leads to a quicker extinction in behaviour, variable ratio does the opposite (Eysenck, 2004). Although my average has increased by 1.74hrs, I was not completely adherent. There were suddenly change in circumstances that were beyond my control. For example, there were days where I would spend a day out with my family or I got ill during 22nd-23rd September. These events prevented me from studying to my full potential and affected my outcomes. This is because on certain days, I studied for less than 5 hours, resulting in me not receiving a token point. Times of non-adherence affected my outcomes as it meant that my average decreased. As my aim was to increase my study behaviour by 2 hours, I was not able to achieve my goal. The reinforcement of a token was delivered at the end of each day. The reinforcement was delivered by my support person, who’d check whether I had done sufficient active studying. However, if I studied for less than 5 hours, I would not receive a token for that day. Conclusion The programme was not as effective as I’d hoped it would be. I only increased my average by 1.74hrs from the baseline to programme date, which is below what I was aiming for. I believe this programme was not successful, as my positive
Student 2 increased their score four out of the six times of the intervention period. They reached proficiency one out of the six times but also reached the benchmark goal on the Daze assessment.
Variable interval schedule of reinforcement is when a response or outcome is rewarded after a fixed amount of time. The fixed amount of time is never consistent. For example, pop quizzes. If a professor says at the beginning of the semester there are pop quizzes, but never tells you exactly when. The student will be paying attention throughout the weeks because he knows there might be a pop quiz. Once the professor gives out the pop quiz the student doesn’t know exactly when the next one will be coming, therefore he continues to pay attention. The example is appropriate because the student doesn’t know when there will be a quiz and the professor gives the quizzes out at random, therefore there are not a fixed number of days or weeks that the pop quizzes will
What can I say, week five; I have a lot of mental distress … just kidding, not the truth is that my mind is getting back together after dealing with so many samples and numbers ( as usual). Just like previous weeks a lot of material to cover, some of the topics like exponential functions were not that difficult to comprehend but they looked so hard to do in the book that unless you read the explanation multiple times and really pay attention to all the details, I do not think it will be easy to figure them out, wait what is that I am saying? … that is always the case with math and algebra, see what I mean my I am still having problems making sense, my brain is continues recuperating.
NOTE: Week 8 Discussion closes on Wednesday of Week 8.As in all weeks, you need two posts on two separate dates, but in Week 8, both are needed by Wednesday. Any posts or assignments submitted after Wednesday of Week 8 will not count towards your grade.
Week 2 has been quite overwhelming. I did not have enough time to do my reading assignments over the weekend. I normally utilize Saturday and Sunday to do my research work and reading. Unfortunately, on Saturday morning, I attended a meeting that took half of the day, when I returned home my husband informed that he had invited our friends over for dinner as they will be leaving for Melbourne the following day. My house was a mess as it hadn't been cleaned the previous weekend when we were away. Thus, my whole Saturday was wasted on doing the trivial aspects of life. I missed church on Sunday so that I can catch up on my work and everything went well thereafter. I managed to complete my tasks. I found that a lot of students were divided when it came answering the forum discussion assignment on what would happen to bond prices if terrorism ended and countries adopted free trade. What's you take on this one?
Sorry for late update mail. I've been working improving what's already done as I didn't have much else to do during last week. This is brief summary of things that I've done during last week.
In both cases, it keeps the dog on their little toes. With the variable interval schedule, they no longer “pace” themselves, because they no can no longer establish a “rhythm” between behavior and reward. Most importantly, these schedules are very resistant to extinction. It makes sense, if you think about it. If you haven’t gotten a reinforcer for a while, well, it could just be that you are at a particularly “bad” ratio or interval.
Week 4: What an amazing week I have had. My children are on holiday, we have had a lot fun activities to do as a family. Holidays are the only times I get to spend with my children as I work from Monday to Friday. I have also taken some time off work, hence I am not as stressed as I am most of the times. However I tend to manage my stress well by practising. I really appreciate your feedback and the guidance given during this course work.
During this week, there was a recap of the previous weeks, meaning that we had follow-up meetings that Pam and I did together; and the follow-up meetings that I broke off into for experiences in other departments. The meetings that were followed up on was to check for any progress or completions of the pilot programs being
Week nine at Wild Dunes Resort consisted of 5 mid shifts: 10:00AM – 6:30AM again. This scheduled compiled with the capstone course and the project requirements has been a challenge as I have no off days and am not allowed to ask for any until April 10th which marks the end of the official spring break season. Juggling and organizing and obtaining very little sleep has become the norm for this last semester at Trident. I am definitely anticipating the end of this semester so life can return to some form of normalcy.
Below is my weekly update for this week from 25th July '16 to 27th July '16.
Is this program effective? Why or why not? I am looking for facts, not opinion.
Overall on this week IQ, I think your participation in the group discussion was much more frequent than last week, especially on Monday. On Wednesday and Friday you were a little quite in the first half of the sessions
The first seven days’ intervention was really easy because that what I’m used to be doing, I keep the same schedule everything was fine I didn’t have to make any change and my schedule. For seven day I mark everything I did and how I did it my behavior didn’t change because my body and my state of mind it used to study that way most of my life as a student. My intervention is about my studying habits the way I studying for test or quiz, for seven day I study how I’m normal using to study when I’m about to have a test or a quiz which is study my note reads the chapter one time and if there’s power points I study that to and I try to memorize everything the way I study them. I normally study for two hours a day or a little more is depend on
A great deal of students don’t develop effective study habits and this ultimately results in feeling a decreased sense of self-esteem, stress, disorganisation, poor academic success, and a negative sense of self-efficacy which is linked to poor self-control (Pychyl & Dann, 2010). This is primarily caused by procrastinating. Procrastination is delaying an activity that possesses important benefits for us in the long-term but is voluntarily delayed in the short-term because of short-term impulsive temptations which offer greater immediate rewards (Steel, 2007). I chose to modify this problematic target behaviour because it was where I exercised poor self-control.
