Chapter 10 & 12 of Everyone’s An Author explains to the readers that it’s extremely important for us to choose genres and write a narrative effectively. Genres are kinds of writing. It includes arguments, reports, narratives, reviews, and annotated bibliography that often assigned to students in school. Also, genres are ways of writing and speaking that help people interact, communicate, and work together. In other words, genres reflect the things people do, act, react, and interact in the particular situations. Genres are as flexible and changeable as the human activities they present. It’s vital to know the common features of each genre so that you can use them to help us interpret new social situation. On the other hands, it helps respond to the genre you use appropriately and successfully. Also, genres are adaptable to various situations. A genre needs to be adjusted to suit the new situation when the audience or context are changed. Moreover, genres are always evolving because human activities change over time to suit new social situation and fresh challenge. Likewise, genres are flexible that they evolve across time and in response to shifting cultural contexts. Thinking about which genres are the most appropriate for you when you are organizing an essay. Furthermore, ask yourself what your topic is. Does your essay call for a specific genre?
