Over the years, throughout history until the present day, we have encountered various criminals from lavish thieves, financial swindlers, rapists, terrorists and serial murderers. Most of them all have something in common, they suffer from psychopathy or some form of mental illness or disorder. Our textbook states the “the term psychopathy “refers to a very specific and distinctive type of psychopathology”-a personality disorder characterized by antisocial behavior and a lack of feelings, especially empathy for or sensitivity to others .
There are some biological characteristics such as traumatic events or abuse that turn in to psychiatric issues or defects to a person’s body that can cause criminal activity. These are some of the

Their relationship was abusive and Aileen was also an alcoholic. That is when she began killing; distracting men, robbing them and then killing them. Aileen Wuornos was finally arrested on January 9th, 1991. She left her fingerprints in a victim’s car; that is how she was caught. She killed seven Florida men over a year time span.
Ted Bundy, whose birth name is Theodore Robert Cowell. Bundy is known as one of the most prolific serial killers in United States history. He was born in Vermont in 1946 to a single mother. Later, he and his mother moved in with her grandparents, but Bundy was under the impression his mother was his sister and his grandparents were his parents. He did attend college and a few friends but he later dropped out of school due to depression. Ted Bundy went back to school where he earned a bachelor’s in psychology. The strain of learning that his sister is really his mother and his parents are his grandparents changed something in Ted Bundy’s mind. In the 1970s, many women began to disappear from college campuses from various states. He lured these women by appearing to be hurt, he raped them, bit them and bludgeoned these women over the head. His victims’ remains were eventually found in a wooded area. Ted Bundy was captured in the 1980s, broke out of prison several times and ultimately confessed to killing over 30 plus women. He was executed on 24 January, 1989 at the age of 42.

He consistently fought for his life against the courts, giving confessions in an attempt to receive less of a penalty, or at least delay his death. He confessed to 8 killings in Washington that had taken place in 1974(“Bundy Details…”), and indicated that he had killed anywhere from 40 to 50 women(Tilstone). Although the actual number of his victims is unknown, it is believed that Ted Bundy could have killed up to 100 women, 36 of which he admitted to(Biography.com). In the book Serial Murder, by Ronald M. Holmes, it is stated that Ted was questioned about whether he had killed the 36 women, to which he replied “Add one digit to that and you’ll have it.” This could mean a number of things, like which digit do we have to add, and where? Did he murder 136 women? 361? We might not ever find out. His last minute confessions would help to close up to 23 pending cases of women that were either missing or had been found dead(Lamar). Of all of the open cases, there were three major investigators surrounding the killings of Ted Bundy. Bob Keppel of the King County Police Department in Seattle, Jerry Thompson of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and Michael Fisher of the Glenwood Springs District Attorney’s Office in Colorado. Fisher and Thompson noticed similarities in the disappearances and murders that they both had in their areas, and connected them to the same suspect(Holmes). After all of his arrests and all of the evidence piling up against him, Ted Bundy was sure to lose the many cases against
When we look at how fragile each one of our lives are, we need to take a minute and realize the different characteristics that form us into who we are today. Studies have shown that there are characteristics within the behavior of an individual that can be linked to the specific behaviors demonstrated by an offender that would classify them as a psychopath. Along with other research that looks into an individual’s genetics to see if that plays a role in defining or making a psychopath. John Allen Muhammad, also known as the D.C. sniper, was labeled as a psychopath when he terrorized D.C. for two weeks, taking thirteen victims and killing ten of them. This paper will go over the behaviors that constitute psychopathy, and the behaviors that
Everyday a different crime is committed; however, the reason or motive behind it is not always understood. Over the years, theories were developed to explain why certain crime occurs. For example, Andrea Yates was a mother of 5 who drowned her children due to a mental illness she endured, but there are many theories that play a vital role in explaining why she committed this crime. The theories that will be discussed throughout this paper are the Biosocial Trait Theory and the General Strain Theory.
Crime occurs every day, all over the world. Most crime is unreported or is unknown to the vast majority of the populations. Over time, crime has grown to become a normal part of society and typically people are not surprised to hear that a crime has been committed. Most crimes are dealt with and forgotten, however a few crimes grab the media’s attention and are highly publicized, ultimately giving the criminal their 15 minutes of infamy. Ted Bundy was one of these criminals. Bundy was a law student in Utah and during the 1970’s, he assaulted, raped and murdered at least 30 known women with some criminologists suspecting as high as nearly 100 victims. The tactics he used along with the extent of his killings is how Bundy acquired his long lasting infamy and notoriety as one of America’s top 10 most wanted during his time. Our true focus here is explaining why these murders occurred; truly understanding the motivation behind Bundy’s actions and finding the roots of causation which could lead a person to commit such serious crimes.
Looking helpless and using his good looks and charms Bundy was able to lure in his victims and would knock them out with a foreign object or would handcuff them in his car. Once he had the victims he would proceed in kidnapping, sodomizing, raping, and killing them in a brutal manner. In Ted Bundy case agencies from different states worked together in the apprehension of Bundy. The conviction of Ted Bundy was credit towards good criminal investigation; with police cooperation, forensic evidence and the witnesses' statements.
Ted Bundy attended college at the University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington. During this time, he took on various low-level jobs, such as being a busboy and a shoe clerk. Generally, he did not stay in one position for very long, which caused employers to view him as unreliable. He was always very focused on his studies and grades. In spring of 1967, he entered a life-changing relationship with his “dream woman,” a classmate of his at the University of
Theodore Robert Bundy was an infamous serial killer who confessed to brutally murdering over 30 women. He was born on November 24th, 1946 in Burlington, Vermont. Ted’s mother, Eleanor Louise Cowell gave birth to him in the Elizabeth Lund Home For Unwed Mothers. The identity of Ted’s father is still unknown, but his birth certificate names a Lloyd Marshall. Eleanor also claimed that a veteran by the name of Jack Worthington could also be his father. Ted’s mother brought him to her parents, his grandparents, where they helped raise him. They lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for about 4 years. He then took his grandparents’ last name, Cowell, and was convinced while growing up that his mother was his sister and that his grandparents
Ted Bundys murders took place in the years of 1966-1978. His first victim went by the name of Lonnie Trumball. She was killed in Seattle on June 23, 1966. He began a killing spree around the year 1972. Bundy said he first murder was like a “horrible dream.” Bundys last known victim went by the name Ann Leach. She was believed to be killed on February 9, 1978 in Salt Lake City, Florida. Some people believe that his first victim may have been an eight year old girl from Tacoma. If that was true he would have been fourteen at the age of his first murder, but that statement was not proven true. The majority of his victims were young women who looked like a girl that had ended a long-term relationship with him. Bundy said that when he committed these horrific murders, it felt like being possessed by something awful and alien. Ted Bundy blamed nothing but himself and pornography for his murders.
Police started to link him with several other murders after he had been arrested with various weapons and items in his vehicle such as a crowbar, ropes and handcuffs the police had reasonable doubt to believe that he may be connected to the murders which had been taking place because he also fit the profile of the suspect the police were looking for and thus a full-blown investigation had taken place. One of the most known cases involving Bundy is the Chi Omega case where he broke into a sorority and assaulted for of the residence killing two of them. (Rule, 2009) Ted Bundy was finally charged with two life sentences after police had discovered bite marks that matched Bundy's teeth. (Michaud, Aynesworth, 1999) Although there was, even more, evidence regarding the other crimes he committed the bite marks directly linked him to the Chi Omega killings allowing for a clear conviction and evidence against him. Bundy was finally charged with three life sentences and ultimately execution. Although Bundy tried to appeal his execution was rejected every single time and was executed by electric chair on January 24, 1989.(A&E Television Networks

In a few months he raped and killed four girls in that area. In November of 1974, he attempted to kidnap a girl but luckily she escaped before any harm was brought to her by Ted. In the seven months that followed, six more girls would be abducted by Ted. In August of 1974, Utah state trooper pulled over Ted after seeing him doing suspicious activity where they found burglary equipment in his car. He was then convicted of attempt of kidnapping from back in November of 1974. In 1977 he was in trail in Colorado facing charges of the murder of a 24 year old. During the trial, in which he represented himself which granted him some freedom to defend himself, he asked if he could go the law library of the courthouse. (Edwards, 2005) They gave him that permission and he then jumped out the window on the second floor of the library. However, after a week loose he was caught. Furthermore, in December 1977 he escaped again by losing weight and crawling through a hole he made in the ceiling and then ran away to Tallassee, Florida. In January of 1978 he broke into Sorority house of Florida State University where he left two dead and two wounded. A month later he kidnapped and killed a twelve year old girl in Lake City. On February 15 of 1978 he was caught and arrested Ted Bundy after being observed by police officers of suspicious

“Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by an inability to form human attachment, aggressive narcissism, and antisocial behavior defined by a constellation of affective, interpersonal and behavioral characteristics, most of which society views as pejorative” [1]. Some of these characteristics include irresponsibility, grandiosity, cunning, deceitfulness, selective impulsivity, sexual promiscuity, lack of empathy, etc. People who are psychopathic display not only antisocial behavior but also emotional impairment such as the lack of guilt. They are able to prey on others using their charm, deceit, violence or any other methods that allow them to get what they want. A strong feature of most of the behavior
Lynda Ann Healy, was among those who went missing. In July two women were approached at a Seattle state park by Ted Bundy he asked to help him with his sailboat, but they refused. Later that day two other women were seen leaving with him and they were never seen alive again. In the fall of 1974, Bundy moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. In November a woman named Carol DaRonch was attacked and was able to escape. Within a few hours after DaRonch was attacked, 17-year-old Debbie Kent disappeared. Around this time hikers discovered a graveyard of bones in a Washington forest that belonged to missing women from both Washington and Utah. Investigators from both sates started communicating and combining a profile and a composite sketch. Soon the investigators knew that the women found in Utah had been hit with a blunt object, raped, and sodomized. Authorities knew they were dealing with a serial killer that could travel from state to state. On January 12, 1975, another of ted victims was found her name was Caryn’s Campbell. Caryn’s was on vacation with her fiancé and his two children in a ski resort in Colorado. A month later Caryn’s body was found lying a short distance from the road. After the authorities examined her body they found that she had received violent blows to her skull. During the next few months, five more women were found dead in Colorado with similar head injuries as Caryn. Ted
