During this week, I have gained a lot of knowledge about the basic fundamental aspects of the institutional pharmacy setting. Prior to taking this course, I did not know as much about the hospital pharmacy setting because I only worked at a community setting. On the first day of class, Dr. Azab taught us how to connect the dots and learning the different traits involved in information transferring. I believe that it was very helpful and beneficial in learning the significant qualities that a pharmacist must have in order to effectively help others and patients in the best way possible. As a pharmacist, you have tremendous roles to contribute in the hospital setting, varying on what interests you the most. In order to be a good pharmacist, you have to acquire and master important attributes so that you can make an overall positive impact on the field. Intelligence is the capability to learn and understand different things and being able to cope and deal with new circumstances and difficult situations that can occur throughout life. As humans, we should always try to become the greatest and to meet high goals in life and not be mediocre. There are common factors that are involved in determining intelligence in which we discussed during class it includes the following: intellectual quotient, emotional quotient and spiritual intelligence. As a pharmacist, it is good to apply these traits, these traits will deliver the finest leadership in any setting. Throughout the hospital
My strongest impetus for the study of this major is pegged on the personal urge to improve the lives and health of those around me. I would only be able to serve the health of others when I am fully acquainted with the knowledge of pharmacy, which to me is one of the noblest professions. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of others. My experiences, especially as I visit hospitals form a significant part in influencing my choice to study pharmacy. At one point, I felt very bad when a pharmacist in a hospital I had visited was very indolent in serving a patient. All human beings would feel adored and valued when they are given appropriate attention in regard to their health. The health profession has a mission geared towards safeguarding people's health and that mission is perfectly in sync with my desires. I want to be exceptional, to do my best in caring for people, and attend to their interest to the best of my knowledge. I admire nourishing hope to desolate patients and always give them a reason to
During the two and a half years of my pharmacy journey, I have been thinking what can a pharmacist do within the healthcare interprofessional team to better help the patients in order to achieve the best health outcome. I work in a clinic as well as inpatient pharmacy, additionally, I had my rotations at CVS and Regions Hospital. all these experiences shape my version of the pharmacists at different settings. Therefore, in various pharmacy settings, pharmacists can work differently with the whole healthcare team. The recent PED-Rx events inspired me how important pharmacists can play roles in when working in a team.
One unified skills that is of great important from my experience is attention to details. In the hospital setting like all other part of pharmacy practice, it is important for pharmacist to be detail oriented and pay great attention to details no matter how small or large it is.
This reflection about my rotations I did my first year in pharmacy school. It was at a long term care facility. My partner was Kelsey Duerson and we went to every other Thursday. This activity did not increase my awareness about my culture. it showed me how geriatric population are treated in this part of the country. I feel like when you get old and you have medical conditions, because we are very busy with our lives we have to take seniors to a facility where they all live in order for health care professionals will successfully take care of them. This is different from my culture because it is not what we do in Nigeria. We take care of our parents when they get old. We do not take them to any facility. They stay home with us. My perception
Hospital pharmacists have many roles including clinical pharmacy, which involves carrying out ward rounds and helping to select treatments for patients, as well as holding clinics. Hospital pharmacists also work in the dispensary, manufacture sterile medicines in aseptics departments, provide information on medicines and manage the purchase of medicines for the whole of the hospital.
In my NUR-301 Class, I had the opportunity to practice on Interprofessional Education. Our nursing student team was partnered with first year pharmacy school students to learn about each other professions and to study on how we could work in a team of healthcare professionals to attain a common goal. As this was my first time experience to meet other students from a different department of Notre Dame of Maryland University, I was not sure what to expect from our discussions. Even if I have some experiences working both in hospitals and in a pharmacy, I was no fully aware of the responsibilities of a pharmacist directly to the patient or to the healthcare field specialists.
As I reflect on my experience of a pharmacy practice, I realize how much of my personality has changed in only few months. The experiences I gained during my first rotation at Walgreens were particularly rewarding, especially those gained while working as a team to achieve a common goal of a patient’s well-being. I did not have any previous experience in the pharmacy setting, therefore I was determined to take advantage of this opportunity to grow and develop skills that are vital to be a good pharmacist. During the rotation, I performed many activities that were assigned by the preceptor, learned new skills and competencies, identified my strengths and weaknesses, and made plans for continued development throughout the journey of pharmacy practice.
List the activities unlicensed individuals can perform in a pharmacy. Also, list the activities unlicensed individual are not authorized to perform in a pharmacy. What activities can a pharmacy intern (who holds a New York Pharmacy Intern permit) perform?
At this Rite Aid Pharmacy location there are three exits, with one main entrance at the front of the store. The front door to the facility is a motion activated two pane door. The two rear exit doors are metal, swinging outwards with panic bars installed connected to the fire alarm and security alarm. The locks on the front door looks to be a dead bolt lock between the two doors but exact details for any of the entrance or exit doors were not available due to security reasons.
The pharmacy at Walgreens on Kathleen in Lakeland has recognized me personally ever since I established a relationship with the company after moving from Miami five years ago. Every month when I fill my standard prescriptions or when I get sick and have to get new medication, I am greeted by name before the cashier even looks into the computer, plus she always asks about my family and how I am feeling. The pharmacist and pharmacy technician treat me as an individual, not a number and this personal touch makes me a loyal customer. On the other hand, my son can only get his monthly medications at CVS Pharmacy and whenever I pick his medication up or he does, we are treated like brand new customers, there is no personalization. We have tried
Faced with a trivial query of the pharmacy assistant, I should be cautious about having any irrational and judgmental plans of action. I should first recall intensively the uses of Aspirin 500mg (Cortal 500) and its toxicological effects if taken abusively than the prescribed dose. Then and there, I would know that the information I would be sharing to the patient will be of accuracy.

Pharmacies play an important role in people’s lives since the dispense prescription medications and sell other personal products for their bodies. I realized that unlike retail pharmacy, there is not as much stress to rush an order since the patient is not present to yell and complain. I also discovered that there is much more clinical knowledge used in hospital pharmacy than in retail pharmacy. The pharmacist has limited patient medication history in retail, but hospital pharmacists have accessibility to lab orders and notes about the patient before they verify a particular drug. It allowed me to learn so much from the pharmacist because she had a vast amount of lab work to reference in order to explain her decisions. For instance, the pharmacist had to dose
This semester has been a tough one but I feel like I have learned a lot about pharmacy over these past few months. I have had a lot of courses so far and in each one, I have been able to make connections to the practice of pharmacy. In this essay, I will reflect on some of things I learned in my courses and how they relate to my future career as a pharmacist. I will also identify areas where certain topics intersect in different courses.
