Disney has made over 619 animated movies since 1937 according to the-numbers.com, but not everyone has heard of of them even though Disney is a very successful company. Even though there are hundreds upon hundreds of Disney movies most people have only seen a hand full. These movies have many factors why only they have stood out from the rest. A great Disney movie could range anywhere from the fact that it has music to animation. Although most of the Disney movies didn’t have all the good qualities, and that is why only a few got really successful. The plat is based on their powers which makes the movie thrilling. This creates an intriguing aspect of the movie that the whole family has powers, thus another aspect of creating a great movie. Another movie where the main character has powers is Tangled. In this movie she wasn’t born with powers she gained them while she was in the womb, and that she was being used for those powers. The whole movie is based on her powers and how she overcomes her fears, which creates a great movie because it teaches children to never give up. Lastly, the main character in the movie Frozen also has some type of power that a regular human could not have. This story teaches the younger audience how being yourself will show your true potential and if you hide your true self you will be miserable. This creates a good movie, because it teaches nice morals to people of all ages. Overall, another factor of what creates a great movie is when the main character has powers. Every good Disney movie has a non-human villain. In the movie The Little Mermaid the main character, Ariel, gets into a conflict with a villain named Ursula. THis cillian is half-human half octopus this mad the movie interesting, because of the fact that she was half octopus. What also made this movie great was that Ursula had magical powers and she gave some to Ariel thinking that it would backfire. Another movie that has a notable
Later Percy and his friends go on to battle classic enemies of Greek Mythology. These movies take their own spin on Greek Mythology, while still telling us about elements from classical Greek Myths. This series became popular because of the fun spin that it took off of Greek Mythology and how it showed the audience the fun and appealing stories that come with mythology. This movie taught people of the gods and demi-gods it interested young people in a topic that had died out since the times of its origins. The next example is Clash of the Titans this movie is a light rendition of the tale of Perseus. This story is a live action rebelling of the famous tale of this Greek hero. We are shown many classic tales of this hero. An example of a tale told is how he conquers and kills the monster Medusa. The movie depicts the way Perseus killed the monster in a captivating and interesting way. This movie taught people of one of the most interesting heroes from Greek Mythology and gave it a rebirth through an immersive and stimulating experience. Finally another example of mythology influencing movies is Norse Mythology in Marvel movies, in the form of Thor. Thor is a character derived straightly from Norse Mythology. The movies show us many different characters, settings, and character relationships that are present in classical Norse mythology. In the Thor movies Norse mythology and its beliefs are showcased and visually depicted in a realistic image. Research shows that these movies have great signs from ancient mythology. The Disney princess films are some of the most common in the world today. Because of their popularity, these works speak and evaluate, in significant detail, by various scholars. Numerous people disapprove these films for their seemingly sexist and oppressive gender messages. They find fault with the princesses serving as role models for young girls. Though, when one attentively scrutinizes the movies and compares the individualities of the princesses to the progressive woman of their time, one may obviously see the positive messages.
For my final paper where we had to pick a topic from current popular culture, I decided to write my paper with the focus on Disney movies. More particularly with the focus on the Disney princess movies. When it comes to the Disney movies they have always been and will always be such a huge part of our society. While growing up most children grow up watching these movies and get the idea that that is what they want to be when they grow up. When you ask a young girl what she wants to be when she is older there is a good chance that she will say that she wants to be a princess when she grows up. I have always been such a huge fan of Disney movies and I have a feeling I always will be. I found it very interesting this semester when we spend the short class period talking about the Disney female and male characters. It is rather interesting and something that I can say that I really never noticed before but the fact that the majority of all the female characters all had the same face shape. Whereas the males there were none two that were the same. However for this paper I will be looking into the relationship to cultural meanings about gender and other identity markers, such as race, sexuality, and cultural norms as seen in some of the more classic well known Disney movies.
Traditionally, Disney tales have a common theme where their princesses or princes’ curses need to be broken by the spell through a kiss of love, so the dream becomes a reality. In the first feature-length animated film from Disney, The Snow White, and Seven Dwarves. Jasmine the princess and Aladdin the street boy both they had chemistry and realized their wishes against Jaffar and Middle-Est culture. Passing over the fabulous story of Ratatouille, Alfredo Linguini and Remy that is the story about rejected someone according is status. Disney animated movies blend social diversity through their tales, but they didn’t realize to go so far until they see the first African – American president in the White House, Disney made a First American princess who is black, The Frog and the Princess. Moreover, Disney animated movies are diversities whose people knew as The Jungle from Indian culture, Mulan is a Chinese tale, the Amerindian- Princess Pocahontas, and so on. Thus, Disney animated movies include more various cultures and teach children to know and appreciate diverse cultures.
Disney Studio 's main focus is on idea generation and storytelling through film and animation. In order to be successful in its mission, Disney needs to be a strong, financially stable company, and judging by its recent blockbuster hits, it is obvious Disney is achieving that mission. Disney’s strengths lie most notably in its ability to appeal to different crowds through a variety of studios, its strong, internationally recognized brand, its reputation for doing good and treating others well, and having the monetary funds to attract and keep the best talent. Despite its many strengths, Disney still encounters problems; it ammasses high sunk costs through expensive movie ventures and does not make a lot of that money back; Disney films bring in a very small percentage of Disney’s overall income when compared to its theme parks and attractions, television networks, and other holdings. Disney Studios may just be one department of an international conglomerate, but it sets the tone for the rest of the corporation.
Walt Disney Films are known to be as an incredible and outstanding fantasy stories producer. It created more than a hundred of films. Majority of what has been produced rely on fictional stories. The films that were released used animation to capture children’s interest and musically performed as well. Walt Disney produced fantasy stories like The Little Mermaid 1989; Sleeping Beauty 1959; Beauty and the Beast 1991; Cinderella 1950 and more. The tales most often than not were always about the life of a princess in search of her prince charming.
Following the creation of these first few movies, Disney Studios began producing many more box office hits.
Disney’s tentpole strategy has been fairly successful throughout the Disney Studios lifetime. Even though this strategy worked in the past it may not be the best strategy moving forward, as there are advantages and disadvantages to this strategy. One advantage of this strategy is that the tentpole films attract movie going customers that think of the movies more as an event rather than just a film they want to see.“A $200 million movie is more likely than a $20 million movie to have elements that appeal to moviegoers--to have special value for them.”, said Horn. Just as with any bet, there could also be a risk and disadvantage. If the film fails, they would both have to take the fall instead of just Disney Studios. “When our
Disney has been involved in the lives of millions of Americans since the early 1920s and even now, continues to touch the hearts of each new generation. What started as a simple and humble cartoon studio grew into a world-wide known enterprise. Disney brought comfort to the United States post WWII and has been a staple in households across America for children everywhere. It is not uncommon for people to reminiscence about their childhood when thinking about Disney shows or movies. So, how did a little cartoon studio get so well known? While growing up, it is safe to say that most children grow up watching Disney movies. A lot of little girls grew up wanting to be princess like Belle, Cinderella, and Ariel. These characters were idols for children because they portrayed every aspect they wanted to be when growing up. As grown ups, when one watches the films again, a sense of discomfort starts to arise. One begins to notice specific ideologies, stereotypical gender roles and racism in the films that were once admired.
Archetypal approach is defined as a type of approach that focuses on the interpretation of texts or other literature based on recurring patterns and other universal models including symbols, images etc. It is one of most important form of liteary critisisum; it is frequently evident in almost all types of liteary records that follows a common theme or a trend from the past. I used archetypal approach to analyze and evaluate the famous disney movie Cinderella. Throughout the movie,I found some common resemblances to other stories such as Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. Similarities include the “lived happily ever after” ending which is recurrent and familiar to us through many other disney movies, the common theme of the villain competing
While making animated films projected at youth and at others who Disney hoped to infuse innocence into, being the entrepreneur he was, he also had to keep in mind the business of his company. Disney wanted to promote the carelessness of being young, and desired to show even adults that they, too, could be happy and relaxed. Being able to do so and keep audiences of all ages interested enough to save his company from bankruptcy is indeed a challenge. Nevertheless, Disney was able to generate films that people of many different generations to enjoy, and all the while become extremely successful.
Firstly, the way that some groups are represented can shape others beliefs about them . In the book ‘’Diversity in Disney films’’, what has been noted is that in most Disney movies, the villains are presented
Watching the trailers before movies in the theater and going home waiting for the day the movie comes out. The anticipation would build up and excitement would grow day by day.
