What is Professionalism?
Everyone has their own perception about what is professionalism. I personally take on professionalism is an individual who takes pride in customer service. This person doesn’t only dress the part but knowledgeable about their profession. This will involve treating the customer as you expect to be treated, go the extra step to make sure the customer is happy. Communicate with the customer let the customer know what is going on and if necessary follow-up with the user. Go that extra mile, this may involve working past quitting or lunch time. Taking responsibility for your actions if you don’t know seek assistance. Everyone has bad, days don’t take it out on your customer and be polite. The customer may be the one having the bad day and will take out their frustrations out on you.
Characteristics of Professionalism Polite: When dealing with others we must have patience, respect and give positive criticism this will make a stronger collaboration with the customer. (Half, 2014 para. 11) You will be surprised how infectious this is. If you are new, watch how others respond to customers. If you are the veteran in treatment, be the mentor and set an example. Remember to treat others, as you expect to be treated, it will go a long way. If you use this rule with impolite individuals you will be surprised that in time, they may turn over a new leaf.
