Media and how it makes people behave
The media is all around us. One form its brought to us is by magazines. Magazines are printed out daily bringing people the latest stories of celebrities, things going on around the world and much more. From the first glance it might not seem so bad but if you dig deeper into what the media is doing then you might just be surprised. One magazine cover, in particular is a Rolling Stone cover. The cover is made of three colors a creamy yellow color, white and black. There’s a border running around the outer edge of the page in the creamy color, and the back ground of the cover is white. At the top of the page is the words Rolling Stone in big, bold letters. The letters are bordered in black and filled in with the creamy yellow color. Below that in small black writing it says Special Report: under Special Report: is the name Charles Manson in big, bold, black letters the size of the title Rolling Stone. With his long hair and bushy beard, his derelict snarl and children-of-the-damned mesmeric stare, and, ultimately, a swastika carved into his forehead. Manson fashioned himself into an iconic figure – a Satanic hippie-Christ demon, a messiah of hate (Gleiberman, Owen, 2009). In this article they are using the terms iconic and hippie with evil things like Satan which makes me believe they are trying to say that he’s a good guy and a bad guy all in one. They also say that he was made for pop culture, so he was a murderer made for pop culture. This sentence alone grabs the attention of all kinds of audience. From religious based people seeing Satan, to people who are wanting to be considered “hippies”. They are using a certain type of wording to make a murderer stand out to people. It gets them interested in Manson and want to know more about him and what this iconic man has
