My school work and education are taken seriously. I know that my education will certainly affect my future. My last two years at Chelan High School, I have found what I truly value in work that I will take with me to college. I've learned that when I don't understand a topic that the teacher is explaining, I shouldn't be afraid to ask questions so I can grasp the idea. With all my assignments and the heavily interactive projects, I perform strongly, even if I have a limited amount of time. Although in my class, I understand that I'm not the person with the best grades, but I still work strongly. Throughout my life, I have been through harsh obstacles. With those obstacles, I have experienced stress, and I believe that I work well under stress.
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania of 1837, the first higher education institution for African Americans was founded on February 25th given the name Institute for Colored Youth (originally the African Institute). After changing its name again to Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and moving to Delaware County, Pennsylvania, it continues as the oldest predominantly African American school of higher learning. The institute was founded by Richard Humphreys, a Quaker philanthropist who donated 10,000 dollars to establish a school that would educate young African American male and females the skills needed to become more competitive in the job market (Conyers, 1990). The school taught basic subjects such as math, reading and writing, as well as agriculture and mechanics. Humphreys envisioned the institute to train people of color to become teachers who would further instruct more young men and
Being a sophomore at Cypress High School has already taught me much. My first year there I didn't know anyone but I quickly made friends with the friendly students of Cypress High. The teachers at Cypress are super friendly, they create a learning environment an enjoyable place to be. In the beginning of sophomore year AP teachers expose you experience a college environment which helps prepare us to be ready in the future.Being an athlete at Cypress High has taught me many things, some of them being sportsmanship, leadership skills, as well as teamwork. My overall review of Cypress High School is that it's an enjoyable and pleasant place to learn in.
Seventeen year old, Edward Pierce Jr. and best friends, Bobbi Brown and James Farley are nearly done with their last year of school at Pioneer Lake High School. One week before graduation and their descent into the real world, tragedy strikes. James has committed suicide, leaving Edward and Bobbi to pick up the pieces. Could they have prevented their best friend’s death? Are they to blame? Can they handle the loss of a loved one without breaking in half?
This social issue has been in the spotlight for quite some time now and is the leading cause for students to miss school, become less social, cause self harm and even in some cases death. Bullying and harassment are commonly seen for the most part amongst teenagers who face issues at school, not only does this happen here in the United States, but in schools universally. ¨17% of American students report being bullied 2 to 3 times a month or more within a school semester¨ (Valerie). Although this is mostly seen among teens it can also happen between children and even adults. Bullying can occur everyday throughout Madera High School and no one would be able to acknowledge or stand up for the victim. Vice Principals at MHS have said that more
On March 16, 2017 in Rockville, Maryland, a 14-year-old ninth grade girl was raped in her high school bathroom by two illegal immigrants aged 17 and 18 also attending the high school. This has shaken the Maryland community and is raising a lot of questions about student’s safety at school and the state’s immigration policies. This is not an incident that should ever have happened and should never happen again in the future.
Do you remember the pep-rallies from sixth grade? Remember how we sixth graders could not wait until seventh grade to sit on the bleachers instead of the gym floor? Back in 2013, Larkspur Middle School got rid of pep-rallies since it was a safety hazard to have too many people in the gym at the same time. Instead, they replaced pep-rallies with spirit parades, so teams parade around the school for about fifteen minutes and basically back up the whole school day. I think the best way to bring school spirit back at Larkspur is to get rid of spirit parades, bring pep-rallies back, and hold them outside.
Conroe High School has many rules. Many are silly and some are actually very important. The one rule I think is silly is being able to get tardies after lunch and it should be changed because some of the Conroe High students eat their lunch in a different room or even a different part of the school, and also the tardies that are possible to get after lunch you can't necessarily get rid of even if it’s because lunch took too long.
I want to attend Archbishop Mitty High School because I believe that I can have an excellent education while having fun at the same time. When I went to the Open House at Archbishop Mitty High School, I immediately knew that this was the school for me. At Archbishop Mitty High School, I saw that they have Debate, Student Council, and Volleyball. I am especially passionate about Debate. I also love volleyball because I know can stay active while having fun at the same time. Since Mitty is a catholic school, I can have a spiritual growth along with a good academic education. When I was shadowing at Mitty, the people were very polite and welcoming which I really liked. My ambassador was very nice and friendly with me. The day I was shadowing
What does school mean to you? Is it about what you learn or what you do? School is getting distracted more and more every year because of the occasions that are being made. The problems with events that have no educational value have a negative impact on Woodlynde. The events such as non-academic field trips, concerts and dodgeball tournaments eliminate the time we could use to learn. They are pointless and not a part of learning for the future. I believe Dr. Fulco and Mr. Shank should replace the non -academic events with actual learning events that teach the students. They can also change the calendar of school. Academics will actually teach the students and prepare them not just for the future, but also what every students wants to achieve.
Closed lunch at Seaman High School should be modified to an open lunch hour. Currently, Seaman High School has a closed policy for lunch which basically means that students are not allowed to exit the building to pick up lunch during their regularly scheduled lunch hour; as well as have lunch delivered to them at the high school. I as well as many high students argue against this policy and would like to have it changed. In fact, the closed lunch policy has been an on going topic that students as well as parents have brought before the Board of Education at their regularly scheduled board meetings. During the public communications section of the school board meeting, students and parents have debated the
Hi, I’m Lissette Jaslyn Vierra I attend Ceres High School I will be a senior this upcoming fall. I kind of have an idea on what I want to become as an adult, I would like to be an engineer. Not completely sure what kind, but I have 3 top ones: A Robotic Engineer, an Electrical Engineer, or maybe some kind of Criminal Justice Engineer. As for the Criminal Justice Engineer, I would like to join the Army or Airforce to build something to protect the men and women serving our country. The other two Engineer course are really fun and I enjoy making robots and wiring them to move.
Everyone has times in their life when they have to say goodbye. It’s often extremely difficult especially if they’re saying goodbye to someone they care about. My last day of high school was a very bittersweet day because I knew I had to say goodbye to my favorite teacher, Mr. Hoss. Mr. Hoss was my global history and government teacher. He was a very special teacher and truly cared about his students. He knew that I struggled a lot in his classes and he never gave up on me. He also had what the two of us called “Hoss Power” which would come into action whenever I was feeling stressed out. He always knew how to make me feel better with his kind words. He also gave me a feeling of reassurance because he knew no matter how much school work I had to do, I would get it all done. By the time it got to the last period of the last day of school, most students often wanted to go hang out with their friends, or go home. Spending time with Mr. Hoss was much more important to my sister, Jamie and I.
Feminism criticism among the youth around the world is an ongoing problem that never seems to get resolved. Society always says that middle school through high school is the hardest time for growing adolescents. Hillside High School is filled with feminist and non feminist which causes the constant judgement of the female population. The of banning feminism criticism from Hillside High School would make the whole school see one another differently forever. The student body should come together to think of a way to get a better understanding of different perspectives of what it’s like to be a young women.
My first day at East high school actually wasn't that bad. Well I mean the night before for sure was the worst part, the anticipation for sure did not help at all. I could not sleep the night before and I was freaking out, I really didn't want to go to high school. Even though I had my outfit picked out for almost a week and I had all of my stuff ready to go for the morning. I woke up and immediately got butterflies in my stomach. I got ready and walked out the door to my bus stop that was 2 blocks away. Once I got to my bus stop I realized that I had forgotten my tennis racket and bag, I ran all the way home and back. I thought that I had missed the bus and I started to panic. I couldn’t miss my first day of High school. Finally the bus came and I was full of relief.
One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my college degree, the first to do so in my family, despite the fact that my early adulthood pointed in the opposite direction. Beginning with my marriage at the age of 19, I lived as one of the "working poor," someone who slipped through the cracks of supposedly historic prosperity working out a lifelong passion for psychology as a houseparent in homes for abused children. A few years later, I was a divorced and frustrated single mother with menial, low-paying jobs: clerk, receptionist, and day-care worker, unable to even collect child support from my ex-husband, who was still a citizen of India. There is nothing like wondering if your child’s next meal will be there to inspire one with determination toward obtaining an education. Because of my absolute commitment toward earning my degree, I obtained flexible shifts at the college and a local day care which enabled me to acquire my degree full-time while supporting myself and my son financially.
