Children’s Miracle Network, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, was formed in 1983 by Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joe Lake as what started out as a Telethon. The company then quickly expanded into a major non-profit organization. Throughout the late 20th century, CMN employed multiple fundraising tactics and acquired various corporate and celebrity sponsors (About Us, 2016). Since 1983, CMN has raised over $5 billion to aid over 170 children’s hospitals, support research, help families financially and generate awareness (Financials, 2016). CMN governance consist of President and CEO John Lauck, a 17-member board, and 155 paid staff members (Charity Report - Children 's Miracle Network, 2016). In 2014, employment costs totaled $16,882,159 (Audit, 2014). As defined in CMN’s 2014 audit, partnering hospitals (170 hospitals as of 2016) must pay a membership fee and license in order to participate in fundraising and awareness campaigns. Funds raised become “unrestricted,” however the hospital becomes CMN’s sole licensee.
