There are multiple organizations that offer help to the homeless, or give them the necessary materials to their survival. Food Banks, Soup Kitchens and Homeless Shelters give similar opportunities to the displaced. They tend to the individuals that are less fortunate in the community. There are rules that come along with attending to these places, for example, you have to be clean and not use substances and you are not allowed to carry any weapons of any sort. Although these places offer food and homes they don’t offer medical care. Well, luckily there is an organization that does offer medical care and incorporates faith within their work. This organization named Christ House, offers many opportunities to become a new, also to turn your life …show more content…

We have very limited services in Las Cruces that we offer our homeless and mentally ill. There is a shelter called "Gospel Rescue Mission" it provides these vagrants with three meals a day, and shelters them in the the evening. The assistant manager stated, "They are allowed to stay three times a month or depending on the needs of the vagrants. As long as they are willing to cooperate with he workers and follow the rules they have at the shelter they are welcomed to stay (Smith, Telephone Interview). They also offer Bible study in the evening and offer spiritual counseling. I asked him, "Does your center help out with medications?" He stated, "No, we refer them to Southwest Counseling Center where they have to go through a screening process in order to receive medications."
Tuesday, September thirteenth, I attended a Healthcare for the Homeless clinical at the Salvation Army located in downtown Minneapolis. My preceptor started the day by providing a tour of the facilities, explaining the services offered and the rules patrons are required to abide by when staying at the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army location operates a medical clinic at the location for homeless persons in Hennepin County. The clinic is staffed with a nurse and an advanced- practice registered nurse. The website describes the clinic services provided, “a variety of health and wellness services to people who are homeless. It operates at 9 different shelters and drop-in centers in Minneapolis, to address health concerns, provide treatment
What is a homeless person? Society in 2017 has a negative view on the homeless community, and an even more negative view on the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) homeless community. Look away, look down, don’t look, this is the thought people have when seeing the homeless community. “Seven different studies of homeless youth in the U.S. have concluded that approximately 20 percent of homeless youth are LGBTQ. This is disproportionately high when compared to the 10 percent of LGBTQ youth in the general population” (National Alliance to End Homelessness). The statistics are beyond alarming, for LGBT homeless teens the rise is increasing every year. Teens are being kicked out of their homes to be left on the streets to fend for themselves.
Whalley is located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. This community, around King George SkyTrain station, is a densely populated area. In this community, there are a large number of homeless individuals. In homeless population, mental illness commonly present in the forms of schizophrenia, depression, personality disorders, substance abuse, and other affective disorders. According to Metro Vancouver Homeless Count, there are “400 homeless people in Surrey, representing 15% of the region's 2650 homeless” (City of Surrey, n.d, “2014”). This problem has been present for many years and there are still people suffering from the basic lack of proper housing. Moreover, it is ought to be noted that “the population is virtually unchanged since the last count … in 2008” (City of Surrey, n.d, “2014”). The city of surrey, due to increased federal funding has been able to funnel resources and funding to accelerate actions related to this problem in mental health. As the result, city of Surrey has been able to work with B.C housing to build more affordable homes for homeless individuals and “ establishing the homeless and housing fund” (City of Surrey, n.d, “2014”). These programs will help individuals to find affordable housing to call home, but the core problem related to mental health illnesses is still a vibrant problem among homeless individuals. For my Photo Voice project, I decided to focus on homeless problem in this community in a hope of raising awareness about the mental
As stated by Hwang, S., Burns, T. (2014), “homeless individuals rated the quality of their care substantially higher than homeless patients receiving care at mainstream primary care sites” (pg. 1541). Creating programs (services that can help transition from being in the hospital to placing them in a good environment) to tackle the needs of the homeless community is more effective than primary health care. This is mainly because the homeless community needs are often unmet. Thus, by providing care that focuses on health can decrease the possibility of homeless people from going back into the hospital. Healthcare providers should also take initiative with helping the homeless community by making a relationship with them, “familiarize themselves with the full range of programs and resources for people who are homeless” (Hwang, S., Burns, T. 2014, pg. 1545), and work with experts in the field of health in the homeless
Every morning, my mom’s alarm clock rang promptly at 4:40 AM. The church we were residing in at the time, was too far from all of our schools, which meant an earlier wake up time. My mom and my two younger siblings would slump out of our tiny blue beds and manage to muster a sleepy walk to our blue storage crates that we kept our possessions in. We would go into the public bathroom that we had to share with three other families to get dressed and cleaned up for the day.

According to suitcaseclinic.org homelessness is a temporary condition that people fall into when they cannot afford to pay for a place to live, or when their current home has been declared unsafe or even unstable. According to Habitat.org, this issue affects between 1.6 million to close to 3 million people within the United States. The issue is growing throughout the world, but what is the root cause? Many people wonder how they can help. Most tend to believe that the solution is as simple as just giving them money to use for daily living. Even though their root cause for their issue isn’t money. It is the fact that they either don’t know how to use their money properly/ responsibly.
I think people are homeless because, homelessness and poverty are linked. Poor people are sometimes unable to pay for housing, food, childcare, health care, and education. At times some difficult choices must be made when limited resources cover only some of these necessities. Paying rent takes up a lot of ones paycheck so would be the first to go if money was tight. Two factors help account for increasing poverty: employment and the declining value and availability of public assistance. A lack of affordable housing and the limited housing assistance programs have contributed to the current housing crisis and to homelessness. But what all of this comes down to homelessness is defined as: The condition of a person or persons living without a regular dwelling...
Homelessness is a growing problem in our society and has been going on for decades. This can be caused by common addictions like drugs and alcohol, mental or physical abuse, or even age and sexuality can play a role. Although, most common assumption people make about those who are homeless, is that they became that way because of laziness. While in fact, the most common cause of this issue is job loss. The simplest way to help contribute to the solution of this issue is to do small spontaneous acts of kindness and pay it forward. Those that are lucky enough to have a home, need to be more helpful to those who are less fortunate by doing research and looking more into the topic on ways that they can help. There are numerous explanations as to why someone might be homeless and it’s up to the public to find solutions to the causes of the problem to lessen the effects.
The homeless population have many obstacles to overcome before they can begin to think about healthcare. They struggle daily to find a safe place to sleep and some place to go during the day. Many times they are moving from place to place with no stability at all in their life. Being exposed to harsh cold winters,
By a show of hands how many of us have experience homelessness in our lives? And before you answer that what I mean by homelessness is having no money, no place to stay, living on the streets, your cars, or a shelter. Better yet how many of us know someone that is homeless, and it can be a family member or a friend or a acquaintance that we see day to day. Most of all us will say that we do know someone that is homeless. Now my next question would be what are you doing at this very moment to help that person out in the most despite time of their lives. If you say nothing then that’s not acceptable and I’m going to explain to you how we can change your mindset today based on what God says about helping out the homeless.
According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, homelessness is defined in four different broad sections. Individuals who are living in an area that's not suitable for human life, who are losing current housing, families with children that are unofficially sheltered, and individuals who are fleeing domestic violence. The government should take the time to support the homeless, either financially or mentally. Second chances gives a sense of hope and spirit. If everyone lived life, made mistakes, without some way to fix it, there would be no lessons to learn in life.
