Throughout the history of Christianity, the ways in which Christians have understood and identified themselves are almost as numerous as Christians themselves. These definitions of identity have come into being for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes Christians understand their identity over and against a prevailing culture. At other times, Christians understand their perceived identity as the dominant culture. In either case, and in all the nuanced situations that exist between those two points, Christians have set their own identity in response to their specific cultural setting. This reactionary influence on determining both communal and individual Christian identities has contributed significantly to the development of “in” and “out”
Finding our identity in our culture today is difficult unless one is truly searching for truth and is being drawn to Jesus by God Himself. “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him (English Standard Version, John 6.44). The enemy is always attempting to undermine God’s work here in the world, however, God is still in ultimate control. This does not stop satan and his angels from blinding the minds of unbelievers of the truth of the gospel. If someone wants to find out the reason for their life, they have to go to the one who wrote the book on our life; Jesus. I was brought up in a denomination called the Church of Christ. At this denomination, there were godly people attending, just not as many as one would expect. They taught by strictly reading of scripture line by line rather than teaching the hermeneutics of the scriptures that the pastor chose
Christianity is one of the most influential religions on both ancient and modern Western society, with the religion based on the teachings of the prophet Jesus Christ who lived approximately between the years of 5 BC and 33 AD. It is claimed that Christ was the son of God whose spirit was embodied and sent to Earth as a human being to bring peace and prosperity to the less fortunate, and absolve the world of its sin. Jesus preached a doctrine of a supreme monotheistic god who ruled over the universe, as well as ethics and morals especially centred on the concept of faith and forgiveness. If one was to live their life in accordance to the Will of God and the teachings of Christ found in the written word of the Holy Bible, one would be absolved of their sin and ascend to the spiritual realm of God, known as Heaven, after their physical death.
Located in the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids this Historical brick building with its’ decorative molding and beautiful stain glass windows is the home of a subculture of biblically based Christians. This church family meets every Sunday like many churches who revere Sunday as being the Lord’s day, set aside for rest and worship of God. Biblically based Christianity is a vast culture of faith in God carried out by many subcultures called churches, made up of people who seek to worship God and to foster a personal relationship with him. One of the most important things that make a subculture is a question of what is it that brings these people together? This foundational question is not only the question of the subculture, but is also the defining
Christianity is a faith based religious tradition, of which the follower is considered to be a Christian adherent. Thus, being a living tradition, Christianity is continually subject to change in accordance to the needs of the adherent and reaffirming the Christian tradition within a contemporary context. The aspects, which attribute the present existence of Christianity and its dynamism therein, include sacred texts and writings, ritual and ceremonies, beliefs and believers, and ethics. Ultimately, the aforementioned characteristics strive to form and continually validate answers to the enduring questions of life through a process of change, which simultaneously highlights Christianity as a living tradition.
The true meaning of Christian in CCU is defined by this Evangelical orientation, which transcends denominational boundaries. These beliefs in action are defined by four distinct concepts. The first being conversionism, which is the belief that lives need to be changed. Next activism, the expression of the gospel in effort. Biblicism, a particular regard for the bible and finally crucicentrism, a stress on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. (Session 1 Biblical perspective, n.d.)
Many people believe that that the motivation of the Christian church is to radically “change the world”. However, through his book To Change The World, James Davison Hunter explains how this common believe is a misconception. Rather, he shows readers that, from a sociological perspective, while Christians thrive in many areas of life by reaching others individually, they fundamentally components of creating cultural change.
The purpose of this book is meant to create a foundation for Christian lifestyles. It addresses the origin of Christian values, and portrays the evolution of Christian worldviews throughout history. It briefly explains the biblical narrative and develops ideas in which Christians are able to live out their faith and deal with other worldviews existing in our world today.
One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in all areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option, rather it is our duty to transform our modern culture.

Following Jesus in America seems to be a very touchy subject in today’s time. Freedom of religion is practiced in America, and Americans are encouraged to practice whatever they choose. John Fea and Stephen Prothero debate the topics of America being founded as a Christian Nation and the idea of Jesus being followed in America. America was and is Christian, still, but was not founded on Christianity. Fea does not answer the question regarding America being founded as a Christian nation (Fea 245). Prothero gives some opinion about Jesus in America, but says Jesus is viewed different in the eyes of many Americans (Prothero 9). As much as I want to think that America was founded as a Christian nation, I cannot agree with it. The people who created the constitution may have had some Christian principals, but the constitution has no evidence of God in it. In the sense of Jesus, Americans do not follow Him in a certain way. Jesus is made out to be the person that suits anyone’s identity at his or her discretion.
The author's main purpose for writing A Myth of a Christian Nation is to explain how the world has claimed to be founded on christian principles but has neglected to see that this is a lie that we as christians and people in society have told ourselves to make it seem like we are “ one nation under God”. Boyd also focuses in on and introducing our role in the kingdom of God vs the kingdom of the world and our role in politics and society.
There are many aspects of my identity that are special and important, but the most important aspect is my faith. I am a Christian and that impacts the way I see things. As a young girl I have always grown up with two parents that taught me family values that were based on the Bible and I was taught how to base my actions of the Bible. Being Christian impacts the way I see myself, other people, and the way I react to my actions as well as others.

I believed that the criteria for how I support or violate my pastoral identity, and how I know I have succeeded as pastor to support my call to be pastor. I learn something totally new from the text that says “therefore, Christian counseling enters into this work of the Spirit as he is forming the unique identity of the counselee. Preaching, Christian education, and supportive fellowship all contribute to this same intention. Counseling has no unique agenda….each method promotes God’s intention” (Kollar54). I learned that there are true about identity of pastor. I believe that I cannot get very far in my pastoral counseling without focus on the Holy Spirit if you are true pastor or minister of Word. I must start to focus on myself by counseling
One can characterize the Christian in-group can as those who follow Christianity and live a “Christian life”. The “Christian life” is being receptive of Jesus into one’s life, seeing Him as the ultimate sacrifice made for all of humanity. With such knowledge, Christians are joyful for the sacrifice made for them, and they choose to live their lives with such knowledge guiding and motivating them (Novello, 2014, p.324-326). With this knowledge guiding their lives, Christians hold a strong set of values that they try
