Islam verses Christianity
Islam and Christianity are two distinct religions, both believe that God is the source of each religion from which their beliefs are derived. Both religions believe that their belief system is the only true way to paradise or heaven. Even though Islam and Christianity believe that God is the source of their beliefs, Islam and Christianity have several similarities as well as many distinct differences.
According to the book Popular Encyclopedia of Apologetics, “The History, doctrines and ethics of Islam are explicitly linked to its founder, a Saudi Arabian tradesman who rose to wealth and prominence, Muhammed” (p. 277). Islamic beliefs were recorded in the Qur’an, Allah’s holy word, and those who follow the Islamic belief system are referred to as Muslims. Muslims believe the purpose of the Islam religion is to communicate the corruption of the Bible to all of mankind. They believe that all of mankind must follow the Five Pillars of Islam; the confession of faith, daily prayers, giving Alms or the poor tax, fasting through Ramadan, and the pilgrimage of Mecca. The purpose of Islam is to do an abundance of good deeds to satisfy Allah so they can earn their place in Paradise and avoid the pits of Hell. Every man who contributed to developing the bible had different lessons and stories of their own with different meanings. The purpose of Christianity according to Weider and Gutierrez (2011) is to “Know God by following His commandments” (p. 60). Christianity believes a person must accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and once Jesus Christ is accepted into a person’s heart, he or she will follow His word in order to lead others to Jesus Christ.
