Speaker Evaluation The Cigar Factory, which opened in 1882 as the Cotton Mill of Charleston is nearing the end of a major transformation, from a 134 year old, abandoned, massive brick structure, into a two story, mixed use facility. Ms. Katie Powers, who serves as the Director of Sales and Events, presented a very informational tour of the facility. Ms. Powers, who exudes an obvious passion for her career, was a very impassioned speaker as she informed our group of the diverse functions that the newly transformed structure will provide. In particular, Ms. Powers demonstrated proficiency with her vast knowledge of the timeworn building’s yesteryear in addition to the developer’s proposals for future use. Through Ms. Power’s enthusiastic and informative tour, we learned that the facility, which is situated on East Bay, is listed on the National Historical Register. During the course of our visit, Ms. Powers shared with us the plans for the first floor of this immense facility which will incorporate occupancy by retailers such as Garden and Gun, Dean and Deluca, a combination restaurant/store which will be called “Mercantile and Mash,” and numerous others. While the lower level of the project will be designated for retail use, the second floor of the development will operate as two separate functions. The Cedar …show more content…
Katie Powers impressed me with her polished appearance, competent demeanor and her engaging style of speaking. Without a doubt, she exudes an obvious enjoyment of not only her position with the company, but in addition, she seems to possess a genuine passion for the transformation of the facility itself. Her enthusiasm was contagious and decidedly effective. With Ms. Power’s vast knowledge of her “baby,” The Cigar Factory, combined with her professional presence, passion and enthusiasm for the project, I believe this venue will enjoy a prosperous future and I personally anticipate visiting again when the transformation reaches
To inaugurate the child labor existence, the leading report selected is from the Union-made Cigars. This first record revealed a label including the president’s seal of approval affirming, “This Certifies, that the Cigars contained in this box have been made by a First-Class Workman, a MEMBER OF THE CIGAR MAKERS’ INTERNATIONAL UNION of America, an organization opposed to inferior rat-shop, COOLIE, PRISON, or FILTHY TENEMENT-HOUSE WORKMANSHIP. Therefore, we recommend
The store will provide welcoming, attentive and efficient service. The company will provide a productive work environment, rewards for achievement and opportunities to develop.
The Northern states had the pleasure of discovering abundant resources of coal. In addition, Richmond faced difficulties because of their existence on the margins of a plantation economy. Even though this was the nation’s first mine, it had various disadvantages that would not let it compete on an industrious scale. In the following paragraph, I will discuss how the South had a secret hand in textile mills within the United States.

Everyday thousands of retail stores throughout the United States open up their stores in the morning for the sole purpose of attracting customers and selling them merchandise. For this assignment I decided to do a store analysis of the retail giant Wal-Mart. To begin with I will evaluate the store layout and design. Next I will explain the visual merchandising techniques used that Wal-Mart uses. Finally I will discuss the problems and recommendations that I have for Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has continually been a leader in the retail industry, and it all starts with the layout of the store.
He rented a space on Depot Street, and when he learned that the O’Connor Building was for sale, he didn’t hesitate – he knew that what was then a furniture and flooring store, would make the perfect studio. He was attracted to the light in the building and its 12 foot
(a) Between 1877 and 1900 one change that reflected the policies of the New South agenda was South becoming industrialized and Southern agriculture received a welcome boost in the 1880s, when machine-made cigarettes replaced the roll-your-own variety and tobacco consumption shot up. In 1890, James Buchanan Duke took full advantage of the new technology to mass-produce the dainty “coffin nails” and as a result, he absorbed his main competitors into the American Tobacco Company.
We have completed our project in the city of Ashland, Kentucky. If our marketing research is favorable we will opt for a storefront building in the old downtown section of South Ashland.
Carson, Pirie & Scott Building is quite unusual building compared to other buildings as it continuously developed overtime (Fig 1). Louis Sullivan considered Schlesinger and Mayer’s aspect, giving the new presence and atmosphere to the store among its neighbours along State Street, of the building that lead him to design rounded corner entrance according to the site. The Building is surrounded by the buildings but it stands out definitely. And also, the relation to the other buildings brings the contrasting atmosphere due to its difference and ornamented exterior. There is three possible entrances to the building (The main grand entrance and two of the entrances to the office in each side of the street.) The Chicago Department Store is a Landmark as it stood from the Field Museum of Natural History also has been a Chicago Landmark since 1975.
Since Hutch Corporations is targeting the lower-middle, middle-income range and no specific ethnic group, the two possible locations Dalton and Hinesville seem to be the good match for a new store according to Exhibit 2. Hutch´s target market of women between the ages 18 and 40 years, fits very good to the data that is given about these two cities. As you can see the biggest shares of inhabitants is from the age of 21 to 44. Even the relatively low percentage of women, living in these cities does not
The first reason I choose to purchase this business is its location. Located in the west side of Houston, the business lies next to the intersection of Interstate Katy freeway and Beltway 8 free way, which are two large major freeways with high density of traffic daily. Located in an office building, the business also gains an advantage to serve as a convenient cafeteria for employee in the building and surround area. In addition, surrounding one mile of the business are Memorial City Centre Mall and the Memorial Hermann Medical complex. With a fast growing Memorial City Centre Mall through many large renovation projects since 2000, and the large Memorial Hermann Medical hospital nearby, the potential for the shop to attract more customer and growth are very promising.
USE was expanded to include field consultants and market managers and today it gives franchisees, store managers and employees a chance to see and taste new products for upcoming seasons that are intended to address the changing preferences of customers. The merchandising plan for seasonal and high-potential new products is also shared. The centerpiece of the USE is the virtual 7-Eleven store, actual size 7-Eleven floor plans are built to show how seasonal products are assimilated into the standard store mix (7-Eleven About Us, 2010). For future reference, this capability should be the tool whereby the adjustments necessary to accommodate a drive thru capability are visualized and ultimately realized.
One building, circular in shape, had four floors connected ingeniously so that customers could move easily from floor to floor. This building acted as the main display area for furniture. The second building consisted of three floors and a basement and acted as the stockroom and service unit, where there was also a selling area for smaller pieces of furniture and home furnishings. Customer services ranged from a baby carriage hire service, a children 's nursery, and a restaurant with seating for 350, to cloakrooms, toilets, a bank, and parking for 1,000 cars.
