Introduction I believe Classroom Management is the key component in any educational setting. I believe that through an engaging curriculum and effective teaching I will be able to meet all the needs of my students. Classroom Management is defined as, the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students. The term also implies the prevention of disruptive behavior. I believe that if students are kept in a safe environment, then learning can take place. The importance of having a successful classroom is to build a foundation for respect and caring.
Teacher/student relationships are very important in the field of education. When we show care towards our students they often respond positively. Giving reassurance for many young children not only shows them their worth, but it teaches them about self-worth. I think once they know what an important part of the classroom they are, they will be more open to learning. Every so often we experience the “problem behaviors” from some students because they feel they are unable to make a connection with us and the materials we are teaching. Realizing that classroom management begins with the teacher, will help teachers to create a tone they are comfortable with in the classroom. This tone will be able to create a culture and an awareness to help celebrate the uniqueness of the students. I think in order to empower the students, we have to appreciate their efforts and reward them for their hard
I believe that when students are in a safe environment, learning can take place. This doesn’t necessarily mean punishing behavioral problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class. That is, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculum and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is a major goal of implementing good classroom management. Without it the students will not be able to learn.
Classroom management is the process by which teachers and schools create and maintain appropriate behavior of students in classroom settings. When classroom-management strategies are executed effectively, teachers minimize the behaviors that impede learning for both individual students and groups of students, while maximizing the behaviors that facilitate or enhance learning. Classroom management is really hard and there are many theorists that talk about it and each is different from the other where each theorist has his/her own ideas and thoughts. Some of them are mentioned below.
Managing your classroom determines how effective you are as a teacher. In this training, it talks about many different ways you can create structure in the classroom. One of the ways was setting rules. Another was to set individual and whole group goals in classroom and commit to completing each goal. It is very important to have complete control over your classroom it promotes maturity, safety, trust and easy flow.
Dr. Jones defines classroom management as “the skills that exceptional teachers use to make classrooms come alive.” He further defines these skills as “the business of enforcing classroom standards and building patterns of cooperation to maximize learning and minimize
Classroom management is about creating good conditions for both academic and social learning in school. It involves developing and managing a safe and positive learning environment where students feel safe,
As an aspiring educator, classroom management is a key element in providing a healthy learning environment for students. Some students require behavior management plans in order to ensure their success as well as the learning success of peers. Behavior modification plans and/or intervention plans are commonly used amongst teachers, students, and parents.
During this assignment I’ll conduct a philosophy of classroom engagement and management in different categories.
My classroom philosophy begins with what type of teacher I will be in my classroom. To have successful classroom management, one must be an effective teacher. Some qualities that make an effective teacher include maintaining high expectations, being consistent, and caring. As a teacher, it is important to have high expectations for your students academically, but also behaviorally. In my classroom, I will uphold the traits and characteristics that I want to see in my students, through my own actions and words. Another quality that I will instill in my classroom and myself is consistency. In my classroom, I will be consistent in my classroom management. I will not favor a student and let them get away with something, and I will not be overly harsh on a student who is having a bad day or week. One of the most important qualities in an effective teacher is their ability to care for their students. In order to have successful classroom management, I must build relationships with my students. The more that my students know that I care for them and want to help them,
My personal belief is that teaching is not just the profession of spitting out information to students that they in turn regurgitate to me. I think that teaching is a process of life learning for these students. I believe there are four extremely important factors that distinguish a well-disciplined class from others. They include the following factors: classroom environment, expectations and procedures, student-teacher relationships, and active learning.
Another theory that clarifies my perspective is Canter’s Assertive Discipline. The focus of this theory is to show teachers how to establish a classroom climate in which needs are met by maintaining a calm, productive classroom environment. To achieve this goal the teacher must attend to students’ needs, establish understandable class rules for behavior, and establishing a climate of understanding and trust. I believe that when students and teachers respect one another the climate of the classroom is more pleasant than in classrooms where there is no respect from both the students and the teacher. Canter says that this type of relationship is developed through speaking respectfully to students, a true sense of fairness, and giving
“Classroom management is the process of organizing and conducting the business of the classroom. It also involves establishment and maintenance of the classroom environment so that educational goals can be accomplished” (Managing the Classroom Environment., n.d., pdf.).
Classroom management is a key element to establish a successful learning environment in any classroom. An effective classroom management plan creates a positive learning environment. Classroom management is affected by the characteristics of the students and their behavior. Students’ behavior is influenced by their age, academic abilities, goals, interests, and home backgrounds (Evertson, Emmer, and Worsham, 2006). Teachers need a diverse array of classroom management skills to facilitate learning. A classroom with a proper management plan will spend less time in disciplining and more time in learning. Students in effectively managed classrooms know and follow clearly defined rules and routines. A classroom management plan should provide
I looked at how students can enhance classroom management by: developing a positive mindset to increase achievements, becoming engaged to increase chances of learning, taking responsibility for learning to ensure that as much learning as possible is accomplished, being honest by maintaining academic integrity to ensure that accomplishments are recognized, participating in designing and maintaining classroom rules and procedures to create the right conditions to improve learning, being attentive during class presentations to create favorable conditions for learning, and respecting the authority of the teacher to create a suitable
Elli had worked on classroom management since her senior year of high school. During her senior year of college, she had a really good class. She would talk about something and then apply it the next day. It is important to be consistent. Consistency is important in the classroom because students thrive on routines and consistency. A well managed classroom is even more important to students than teachers. It gives them a sense of security. In a classroom that is consistent, students know from day-to-day how the classroom is structured and organized.
As a future educator, it is extremely important to prepare for what is in store for each year. Every single class is different, and will bring something different to the table based on the different students in each class. It is extremely important to have a classroom management plan for a group of diverse learners for several reasons. From reading Wong’s book First Days of School, How to be an effective teacher, he states that after doing research in a study reviewing 11,000 pieces of research that spanned 50 years, three researchers determined that there are 28 factors that influence student learning, and the number one factor is classroom management. This is very clear that research backs up how important classroom management is. It is what allows teachers to be effective teachers for their students and are able to keep the students on track. Classroom management also offers organization in the classroom. It refers to all of the things a teacher does to organize students, space, time and materials so that learning can take place (Wong 1998). Without classroom management the entire class would be out of control and very little to no learning would take place.
